Very Nice Home- with some exceptions
I always like to leave an honest review for those who will stay after us. For this reason there will be some Pros and some Cons.
To begin, you will need to remember that you are staying in a home in the wilds of Costa Rica. If you think you will be staying at the Hilton then you are not going to be satisfied.
Pros: It is a large home with plenty of space to stretch out. The main living areas are beautiful and you can tell at one time this was a wealthy families home. The kitchen is well appointed if you want to cook a meal and the refrigerator is large and works well. We rented it because it was near the Pacuare River where we were going on a 2 day rafting trip. We wanted to experience life outside the cities and towns and well, the price was right for 4 people. The grounds are very pretty and the area is quiet.
Cons: The home could use a little TLC. From dripping faucets and stains on the ceiling to some bare fluorescent light bulbs and "soft" wood flooring it needed some care but not enough to say I regret staying there. There was no TV or dryer that we could find. It looked like the TV had been removed because the wires were still there. We looked everywhere for the dryer, it was definitely MIA. The pool table and foosball were unusable. I would say the single major item, for my family anyway, was the hot water. There are two "Insta-hots", one on each shower head. That's it. Nothing at the sinks, bathroom or kitchen. While I don't need my showers to be hot (the temperature couldn't have reached 90 degrees/ 32 Celsius) and we didn't do any real cooking, I think this is something that should be addressed.
Worst thing about the property: Hot water.
Best thing about the property: Size, Goretty and the quick communication.
Would I recommend staying here? Yes, but only if the hot water is fixed or that doesn't matter to you.
The house is big and very comfortable. We have a great time. We loved the BBQ.
The plants are beautiful.
Goretty was so helpful (and understanding when within a few hours of our arrival, we broke a few things! :-( ). The property is BIG and beautiful, and the grounds are amazing. There is a coffee factory within walking distance where you can get fresh beans or grounds to brew, and a mirador/vista up the hill a little ways that was great for birding and seeing the valley across Turrialba. It was a wonderful time.
Tranquile Home With History
We loved to spend three days in this big historical home with its beautiful unique garden. Yes, this house has some years on its shoulders but we've got a lot of space, a big well equipped kitchen, great beddings, nice working internetaccess and we lived in a safe area with a very friendly and helpful host.
Close by very good hiking trails, vulcanos and historic monuments.
Awesome Tranquil Country Getaway
If you want to connect with those who matter most and get away from the Hustle and bustle of any city, this is your place. Spent a wonderful week with family and children ages 5 and 9, and the setting was perfect. The House is located in Atirro, literally 15 mins from Turriallba ( Big city with everything you need). The house is tucked away in the skirts of a mountain. There are properties near by but you truly have space to yourself. It sits on approximately 7 acres and Gorrety keeps the grounds immaculate. The kids loved the yard which has it's own mini soccer field. Although tucked away, the house is safe ( 3 large dogs roam the property when lights are out, and she will tuck them away at your request), equipped with WiFi, and Cable TV for those who wish to follow world news the old fashion way. You definitely need a car and it should take you 2-3 hrs from San Jose Airport depending on the weight of your foot on the pedal. There is a smaller town about 7 mins away where you can purchase essentials. It is a country home with some years on its foundation, so do not expect the The Monaco or the Ritz. Plenty of nature to see, rivers and the true essence of Costa Rica and it's people. Our host was gracious, attentive and genuine. Internet went down, addressed problem immediately. An excellent stay in a simple but charming country home.
Excelente vacations and hospitality
The house is part of a mini hacienda, liked the gardens, views, house, everything. It's near the caribbean and several national parks. Love it
