About Dian Weeks

For many years I have worked as an artist/sculptor...designing elements for the home. And I have managed property rentals for over 25 years. We spend a few weeks each year enjoying our island retreat and getting recharged.

Dian Weeks purchased this cottage in 1987

Why Dian Weeks chose Waikāne

We looked for a special location for over 4 years until 1987... when we finally found our perfect island retreat. We built a custom pole house(s) and appointed it with Indonesian/Asian furnishings from our travels and extensive tropical landscaping from local farmers. For years we have shared the guest house with travellers from all over the world...with many rave reviews.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a very unique, exclusive area...located about 10 minutes north of Kaneohe, in an area called Waikane which means 'Water of the Gods'. It's private; has a serene country feel embellished with gorgeous tropical vegetation & fruit trees. Being embraced by the Koolau Mountains and enchanting views of Kaneohe Bay...this property is like no other. Great location...10 minutes to Kaneohe town; 20 minutes to Honolulu & Kailua; 40 minutes to the NorthShore. And close to beautiful beaches all along the coast.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Welcome!! Hope you have a fabulous stay at our beautiful island home! Please leave us a comment about your experience here in Kaneohe...we appreciate your thoughts and kind consideration of our bayside retreat.

Aloha & mahalo!

:) Dian

This place is beautiful. I agree with keeping the country country!

Loved how homey it feels. It's close to all the beaches. And, waking up every morning to China man's hat was very special.

Great Place to stay on Oahu

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly pleased when we got to our cottage and saw how well it was set up and clean. The accommodations for us and another couple were perfect for our travels around the island the one week we were there. Everything was furnished well including beach gear. The beds are very comfortable and there are plenty of extra clean sheet sets in the dresser. The sunrise each morning is fantastic at the shoreline close by. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to have a more private and personal stay on the island.

Beautiful location!

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet, private and comfortable get-away, this is it! A beautiful setting, and a good "home-base" for your vacation. I especially enjoyed the large lanai overlooking the bay. The sound of ocean waves lulls you to sleep. A great vacation rental!

I was impressed by it all. It offered everything we needed, even the boogie boards and umbrella . I would definitely recommend and stay there again.

Private Setting, needs TLC

  • 3 of 5

I will start with the positive. Very private setting. Bananas and papayas hanging from trees outside the windows. Chickens with chicks on the property along with geicos inside and out. The house is large with a nice BBQ (webber). No road noise and wonderful sudden down pours of rain.

We arrived and the house was hot and dusty/dirty. Most of the window cranks were either broken off (laying broken at the bottom of the windows) or rusted in place. Most windows could not be opened. There was one shade over the sliding glass door broken and down (in front of the main house view, string broken off). My husband found the broken string behind a privacy shade and tied up the shade. Most of the other shades were almost impossible to pull up. There were several floor fans laying about, dusty and rusty. The three main living room fans were very dusty/dirty and one had the light out. There was also a light out over the bar in the kitchen. The first two hours we were there my husband tried to open windows and fix shades so we could try and cool the house down. The upstairs loft was to hot to even unpack. We e- mailed Dian and she e -mailed back she said to call the house keeper. We called the house keeper and were told that she was aware of ALL the issues I am going to mention. She offered to send out someone to look at window cranks and she offered to bring us light bulbs she also offered to dust. However she said we needed to be home and stay home for someone to be in the house. We were only in for five days and by the time someone looked at the issues and ordered then replaced the shades and cranks we were going to be house bound for fives days. I know that the tropics are hard on homes but feel strongly we should have been told of the issues or the items should have been fixed before we arrived. Be warned that the loft/bedroom HAS VERY LOW BEAMS, my husband hit his head twice very hard. Most nights we could not sleep because the upstairs was stifling hot. The stacked washer/dryer does not fit in the utility closet so you can't close the door to the noise. The door to the refigerator does not fully open it hits the stove oven (which is not vented) . The cushions on the dining room chairs cover the broken cane in one of the chairs. The beds offer no support and are old is my guess . We have never given a VRBO a bad review and want to make clear that there are positive things about this home, it just needs some major TLC.
