I'm a marketing writer and have lived from Dallas, Chicago, New York and Boston, to Bartow Florida and rural Indiana. However, Florida's east coast is my heart's home. Recently married, I've gone from foot-loose and fancy free traveling career gal to wife, step-mom, and (gulp) grandmother in just a few years.
Leslie purchased this Bungalow in 2013
Why Leslie chose Ormond-by-the-Sea
Every chance I've had for as long as I can remember, I head down for the soul cleansing I get from the sugar-soft sand on my toes, ocean waves crashing against me, and the ionized air energizing my spirit. This place reminds me of the solid concrete homes my grandad and his brothers built when they escaped the brutal Illinois winters and relocated to Florida for a better life. This property was an estate sale, everything was so well cared for, really pristine, I felt it was just waiting for me. So I kept the solid construction pieces and merely updated the creature comforts. It is truly my dream home.
What makes this Bungalow unique
I love the outdoor shower! Either back from the beach, or just to see the sunshine with blue skies above while washing up is so nice--especially after I've been up north for a while. I love the original 50's furniture and dishes from my family. However, I've been staying in nice hotels for about 60 nights a year for years, soooo, I love big fluffy pillows, soft luxury sheets, fluffy towels, a great shower, and beautiful accents -- I've decked the place with to satisfy my need for nostalgia, and luxurious living. You won't find many places with a nice garage to store your toys.

Definitely a Home Away from Home
Leslie was absolutely amazing and bent over backwards to accommodate us!
This was the perfect place to spend our time while looking for a home here at the beach!
It was so comfortable and the layout was perfect. Anything you could possibly even think of needing you could find in the house somewhere. The beds are VERY comfortable, as was the rest of the lounging furniture throughout the house.
We enjoyed coffee on the back patio and afternoon/evenings sitting out front. The neighbors are all very friendly. Every time we went on a walk we ended up having a great conversation with a stranger along the way.
The location was perfect, close to everything and only a 10 minute walk to the beach.
Convenient, cute and cozy - highly recommend!
The house is exactly as advertised, it is a super convenient location and close to stores and restaurants as well. Our host Leslie, went above and beyond for me, I dropped an earring while I was there and couldn't find it. She was kind enough to go on a massive hunt and then mail it to me - twice (but that's a story for another day)! If you are looking for a great place to stay in the Daytona area, don't hesitate, this home has a cool retro vibe that fits the beachy style of the area perfectly. As a frequent traveler, I guarantee that you will not find a more accommodating host anywhere!
Relaxing, cute, and perfectly suited.
The place is adorable. Everything we needed. Close to the beach. Comfortable.
Coolio! Comfy! Cheery!
Thanks for the great stay! We really enjoyed a relaxing week at this beachside retreat. While not super fancy, this place has some nice touches, soft towels, nice linens, comfortable beds and lots of places to chill (big soft leather chair, sun room, and game room). Our group of 4 had plenty of room to cook, laugh, play and nap after big days at the beach.
Mid-century Florida at its best!
This is an awesome house! Perfect for families and everything that could be included, is thoughtfully so. My favorite room was the sunroom behind the kitchen. So much light! The house is up on a hill, of sorts, and gets a great breeze. I loved being able to open the windows and get a nice cool draft at night (helped out with ceiling fans). Just a very relaxing stay!! The owner is a dream to work with and made everything just right.
Iam trying to be nice .
This Property was not at all what was advertized , ( NOTHING ) , the amount of FILTH under the living room couch was well i can describe it as (filthy) would be the best description. a good deal of the cabinets in the home were zipped tied with notes DO NOT OPEN , all of the dishes were salvation army miss matched plastic JUNK. The Glass in the front door falling out circa 1950 ,
NO BBQ ,are you kidding me most people come to the sun for just that out side BBQ Oh about out side hahahah there was no out side as there was no grass in the back or front yard only BUGS and large amounts of sand burs ( they hurt ) and WEEDS everywhere , did i mention there was NO LAWN CARE during our 6 weeks at this dump , Only on the last week of our stay .
The out side furniture was JUNK broken and worn to the point you could not sit on it because the sun and deteriorated the mesh.
THERE IS SO MUCH MORE I COULD SAY ABOUT THIS PROPERTY BUT IAM CAUTIONED FROM USING THE LANGUAGE I WANT TO USE!!!@!! I wll say this
IF YOU RENT THIS PROPERTY, WELL YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !
Well, you can't please everyone. Apologies, a discounted rate, reducing the deposit, and offering to let them out of the agreement with no penalty was not enough.
Unfortunately, this couple (they each wrote a review today) was disappointed the minute they walked in. There was no fenced yard, and no dog park nearby. Neither of which I advertised.
They did break two windows, a set of blinds and the shower rod and bleach the new Tommy Bahama towels. And they didn't turn the lawn sprinklers on weekly as I request of my long term guests, so yes, the yard died. The weed....well according to upset neighbors, came with Stan and stunk up the place.
And grasshoppers, well, they do end up in our yards on occasion.
I've owned the home just a year, and I put in high end mattresses, TVs, fixtures, brand new Corelle dishes to sere 12 as well as some plastic dishes for picnics. Most everything is brand new and high quality, except for the a1950s items. My sweet grandmother would be sad to hear they did not like her china.
The new lawn furniture from Pottery Barn looked in fine shape when I showed up a day after they left. The house is professionally cleaned, after each guest and well maintained.
The day they arrived they called, Brenda was upset about the dog park they saw on another site not being nearby I offered to refund their money, this house stays full, and I knew I could easily rent it out easily. But they chose to stay, and be unhappy about the issues they wanted but I did not advertise (my insurance does not allow me to offer fire pits, BBQs, or the use of my bike because of liability and 4 cabinets are closed because they hold bug spray and cleaning supplies--another liability).
This is my family's part-time home, it's furnished, and cared for as if I were living there. I filled it with nice things so I can enjoy myself, and I'm happy to share with guests, so I can afford to have this place. But it's not super fancy (or super expensive to stay).
I think my top reviews speak for themselves. And if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Cheers!
Disney World is just over an hour away.
