About the property

Beautifully renovated one bedroom with full bathroom and private entry

This is a Bay View apartment newly restored with vintage bathroom and other historical features. This home was built around 1908 and was renovated to honor the time period last summer (2013). New kitchen, updated bathroom with a queen bed, (down free bedding), and a small kitchen. There are two private entries, one through the lobby and the other a front porch facing the bay view with a small seating area to enjoy the summer sunsets. Private parking space reserved. A trail to Bellingham Bay begins next to us and is a pleasant 20 minute walk.

About Christine Coder

My husband purchased this property because he fell in love with it while he was on a walk in the neighborhood. I moved to Bellingham a year ago and we live in the main unit. I took one of the rental units ( the building was a single family home and had been converted to accommodate nuns that worked in a nearby hospital in the 1940's) and renovated it, which is what we use as our short term rental. I love meeting people from all over the United States. It is always amazing to meet people and see how similar we are, and celebrate the culture, share ideas, and be the host to others who are new in the area. I moved here from Vancouver B.C. Canada, and am anxious to meet people from around the U. S. to get to know my new country better. I have been to many cities in the world and love the Pacific Northwest.

Christine Coder purchased this apartment in 2000

Beautiful unit with a great view! Would stay again!

  • 5 of 5

The unit was great. Quite with a large yard and awesome view, and centrally located close to downtown Bellingham. The owner was communicative and easy to work with. Would stay again!

Bay-Watching

  • 5 of 5

This is a clean, cozy, nicely decorated apartment with a fantastic view of Bellingham Bay. We sat at the dining room table for hours and gazed out at miles and miles of birds and boats. Bring your binoculars. It's part of a large 1908 vintage house perched between Western Washington University and the bay shoreline. The owner lives in part of it. Several other tenants live in other parts of it. The walls are pretty thin, but noise was usually not a problem (the one time it was, the owners promptly took care of it). It's a great location, halfway between Fairhaven and downtown Bellingham, and there are stairs that can get you down to the walking trail that will take you either direction. There's good wifi, and cable TV. The kitchen is small but adequate for most purposes. A couple of things to note: The streets here are very narrow and steep. We were there during a snowstorm and were glad we had an all-wheel drive vehicle, although this won't be an issue very often in Bellingham. Parking is at a premium, but you get your own designated spot. There are a few outside stairs to negotiate, although even with a bad knee I had no problems. The place is small, but about right for a couple. The owner did a good job of making us feel welcome; she brought us some Christmas Welsh cakes, decorated with real holly sprigs. The yard has plenty of holly trees, and when decorated with a little snow, it was Christmas-card pretty.

Cozy little base for a couple to explore Bellingham

  • 5 of 5

Clean and comfortable with vintage touches. We cooked a couple breakfasts and enjoyed the view from the table as we ate. Convenient to both downtown and Fairhaven for a number of excellent dining choices.

Nice and relaxing.

  • 4 of 5

The unit is comfortable, the view is wonderful, and the people are nice. Bellingham and Fairhaven were within walking distance. As a heads up, the kitchen has minimal cooking utensils so it would not be the place for cooking any major meals and stairs are needed from the parking space into the unit.

Owner's Response: Thank you Beverly, We appreciate your staying with us. It was a treat to have you! For your future stays, we supply anything for the kitchen you may need or want on request. It is a small apartment and we don't see any need to clutter it up. Also to clarify there are stairs from the parking to the yard and again to the house. Can you clarify the comment about needing stairs? Again, great to have you! Christine

Lovely unit and View

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay. Just a few minutes from town. There are steps from parking down to unit so keep in mind for handling luggage.

The balcony provides the most beautiful view of Puget Sound and the grounds are lovely as well.

Christine and her husband took good care of us on a couple requests.

Fairhaven Village has many excellent restaurants, our favorite is an Italian restaurant called Mambo Italiano, where we order local muscles with wine sauce, and martinis on Friday nights. Other local restaurants include Dirty Dan Harris for steaks, Jalapenos for Mexican food and great Margaritas!

Amazing local book store with a unique selection of books for everyone. ( another restaurant attached to this with wonderful lunches including gluten free options, the peanut butter cookies are amazing, and they can make a sandwich 'sans gluten' if you have not had one of those for ever). The bookstore has an outdoor courtyard where on Saturday evenings you can take a blanket, some take out food and watch a classic movie under the stars. They have a local farmers market that sets up on certain days and our very good friend and amazing artist Mary Gregg Byrne has a booth there, if you like what she has there and would love something specific you could have your favorite view of Bellingham Bay commissioned by her!

Antique shops with wonderful collectibles and vintage linen, lamps, and jewelry. On the way home from Fairhaven Village you can stop at the Chrysalis Spa and have a luxury experience, with massage, nails, facials and finish off with dinner at their waterfront restaurant.

( I had a gift certificate for this spa and went for a facial, and a manicure before Christmas one year, and I could not believe what a difference it made for my skin, I also purchased a terry/microfiber robe from them and I highly recommend it!)

The University is only a few blocks away, and is part of the Washington State University system. Western Washington is very proud of The Vikings men's basketball team. The home games a just a few minutes away. For parents visiting students at the university our apartment is a perfect place to stay. Here you will have a clean beautiful quiet place to come home to instead of sharing a room, worse yet a house with your university student and ' roommates'.

Downtown is a quiet but interesting place to wander, with museums, libraries and shops galore. For the shoppers, there are outlet malls 25 minutes down I-5 in Burlington, and north towards Canada. Vancouver is only 1 hour and 15 minutes for a day, and I used to live there so I am the best guide to what you are interested in to make the day tailored to you.

Mount Baker is also close by for those of you who like to hike and ski depending on the time of year.

I could go on and on about Bellingham, it is rated one of the top places to visit and live in the United States. Come and see why!
