Long Branch Cottage was built in the late 1940's by cabinet maker Guy Rice. Sankey and Irene Bradley purchased the farmhouse and surrounding property in the 1960's and it remains in the Bradley family today. Beautifully remodeled in 2013 by Chad and Michelle Bradley and Chad's mom and dad, Charles and Linda Bradley, the house is located in Marshall, North Carolina. It is situated in a rural, picturesque setting, where cattle graze in pasture fields and neighbors still stop to say hello. The house now includes all of the latest conveniences with stainless steel appliances, exquisitely tiled bathrooms with tiled showers, and even a large soaking tub. No detail has been overlooked, even down to the handmade shower curtains.
Sit on the front porch and go back to a time gone past, when things were just a little slower. In early spring enjoy apple tree blossom in the 40 year old orchard established by Chad’s grandfather, Sankey Bradley. Wonder at what stories the 50 year old rhododendrons could tell, as you sit and gaze at the blooms. As the seasons transition into summer, enjoy the spacious back yard with a game of kickball with the kids. In fall watch the apple orchard carefully for deer grazing for apple drops or the occasional black bear looking for a treat as you appreciate the beauty of the leaves as they change color. When the weather turns cold and snowflakes start blowing, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate as you sit by the gas logs and turn on the lights to the Christmas tree that Michelle puts up every year. Appreciate the fact that you didn't have to put any effort into installing lights on the roof or garland on the porch railings, but that you do get to reap the benefits of a house beautifully decorated for the Christmas season.
Long Branch Guest Cottage has a spacious living room with gas logs, flat screen television and wireless internet. The galley kitchen has stainless countertops, all new stainless appliances and the original cast iron 'farmhouse' style sink. The dining room is light and airy with lots of windows for viewing wildlife and enjoying time with family. The cottage has two bedrooms with luxury sheets and quilts. The master bedroom with king bed ties into a beautifully tiled bathroom with a soaking tub large enough for two and an artistically tiled shower. The main bathroom has a beautifully tiled shower and bathroom sink complete with lots of luxurious towels. The second bedroom with king bed boasts plenty of light from large south and eastern facing windows.
Situated on 3.5 acres, enjoy viewing all of the wildlife from the covered porch, or grill out while the kids play a game of tag in the large yard.

Conveniently located 20 minutes to Asheville, 15 minutes to Weaverville and 5 minutes to downtown Marshall.
We stayed at Long Branch for 2 nights. It was a great location for exploring the small towns that are north of Asheville. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and we found it exactly as advertised. I thought that the rooms were even larger than the pictures depict, so that was a nice surprise! The cottage is very bright and warm feeling; the only room that was somewhat dark/(faced north?) was the Master. I was in the area for a Half Marathon in Marshall, so the location (about 7 minutes to town) was great for an early morning, and the fresh bread and eggs made for an easy post-race breakfast! We also visited Weaverville and Mars Hill where we ate at a great burger spot. My only small negative is that the water is very hard and high mineral content; I think it's iron, so you might want to bring bottled water to drink and for coffee and cooking. Also a colander if you plan to cook pasta! Thank so much for the great place and we'd definitely stay here again if we are in the area!
We so enjoyed the charm this cottage offered. Greeted by 2 wild turkeys as we drove up, the gracious porch beckoned us to sit, relax and enjoy the soft breezes, and country quiet. Very comfortable beds, uncluttered kitchen, 2 spotless bathrooms provided a great 3 day retreat for 2 couples. So many good eating options in the area, we didn't cook much, but enjoyed Sweet Monkey in Marshall, Well-Bred in Weaverville, and Homegrown in Asheville. Our hosts provided a breakfast treat of homemade bread, coffee, and fresh eggs--hospitality, country-style!
Michelle and Chad have done a lot of updating, new kitchen appliances and breathtaking master bath are just two items that stand out. The home is close enough to Asheville for quick visits and the town of Marshall is classic small town. The home is very comfortable and the warm fresh baked bread and fresh eggs were very welcome. We truly enjoyed everyday of four day visit.
This well-restored 1950-ish home was spotless and well-equipped. Located in the quiet countryside, the birds and crickets were the loudest sounds. Take the easy drive to several small towns (Marshall, Weaverville, Mars Hill, Hot Springs) to enjoy local restaurants and it's only 20 minutes to downtown Asheville, where all the hippies from my days in Chapel Hill have relocated. The owner left us a homemade loaf of bread along with some butter and also eggs from her 8-year old daughter's hen house. What a nice touch in our busy and often-impersonal world!
If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in a sweet little cottage, then look no further. From the moment I read the description of Long Branch and my communications with Michelle, I knew this was a well loved and cared for property. It was in pristine condition, kitchen well stocked, wonderfully comfortable beds, great bathrooms and a front porch that was a delight. It is on a very quiet road within minutes of charming downtown Marshall, yet an easy 15 minute drive to Asheville. It is simply a gem and I can't wait for my next visit.
Located a short 20 minute drive to the great dining and shopping of Asheville, NC (be sure to visit the largest private residence in the USA- the Biltmore House!). 12 Bones is a must eat- for truly Presidential Approved BBQ and Papas and Beer for the best Mexican this side of El Paso. Historic Hot Springs and the rejuvenating Hot Springs Spas is conveniently accessible via a scenic drive down HWY 25-70. Miles and miles of hiking trails await in the thousands of acres of national forest (the Appalachian trail crosses less than 15 miles away). Mountain biking is less than 10 miles, as is the French Broad River and its great mix of whitewater (lower section) and calm water (upper section) rafting. Along with the rafting, the French Broad has one of the best Smallmouth Bass Fisheries east of the Mississippi! Fabulous trout fishing is close by (be sure to check out the Laurel River and its catch and release section). Marshall, NC is a short five minute drive, (drop into Penland's Dept. store- a throw back to a time when chain stores didn't exist) along with Zuma Coffee shop for great wraps and cookies (live bluegrass on Thurs. night- look for grammy award winner Bobby Hicks and his 5 string fiddle) and Pork and Pie for fresh baked pizza. Downtown Weaverville, NC is only fifteen minutes away, with great dining and shopping (Curtis Wright Outfitters). Bring your family to one of the most central locations in the area for whitewater rafting, horseback riding, skiing/snowboarding, shopping, and dining, with so much to do you'll have to return several times to experience it all! All while enjoying a relaxing stay in a rural setting- you'll be amazed that you are so close to the hustle and bustle but so far away as well.
