About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 Bath - Sleeps 14.

With A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 9 FEET IN JANUARY and voted the #1 Ski Town in North America by Powder Magazine readers, Crested Butte fills all of your mountain vacation fantasies. With incredible skiing and Alp-like views, summer wildflowers as far as the eye can see, it is difficult to find a year round resort that can compete with our charming and beautiful Historic Mining Town.

Our home was newly completed in December 2013 with eco-friendly, green construction such as high efficiency, low cost in floor radiant heating, fresh air circulation, instant hot water and of course the repurposing of the OLDEST, Historic 1880's home in Crested Butte. This combination creates the best of Historic CB with the luxury of new construction. The original 1880's cabin was newly renovated and remodeled, added onto with new and amazing open living spaces.

The completely stocked kitchen features Viking appliances, custom cabinets and a beautiful Colorado beetle kill wood ceiling. (Repurposing of vast amounts of trees killed in Colorado by beetles. The wood is beautiful with different hues of blue and gray.) Also included is the large reclaimed dining table that seats 10 with an antique French chandelier. The 2 1/2 inch thick granite counter island has additional seating for 5. A casual breakfast, lunch or dinner is delightful at the counter. Because ours is a family home you will find every item needed to create a gourmet meal. (A full compliment of the finest spices, oils, vinegars, condiments and staples ease your shopping time and meal preparation. A Caphalon panini/grill, Cuisinart food processor, Cuisinart mixer, blender, toaster and Cuisinart coffee maker round out a dream rental.) If your preference is dining out, our desirable in-town location puts you one block away from Historic Elk Avenue and incredible dining choices ranging from cool casual to incredible 5 star meals. A wide array of interesting shopping from quirky to elegant is also within steps.

The kitchen opens to the sunny family room featuring custom built furniture with designer fabrics, leather and antique textiles. The floors are warmed by radiant heat, Ralph Lauren wool and antique rugs. The original art, sculpture, antique Murano glass sconces and garage sale sourced framed deer head make for a luxurious, playful and comfortable family gathering area. The furniture was made to sink into and relax. The area also has a custom built fireplace with an antique reclaimed mantle, large gas fireplace and a 50' HD flat screen tv with a Sonos sound system, Blu-Ray DVD player, cable and Netflix to provide entertainment. Numerous family games are located under the coffee table. (We are obsessed with playing games when we are in the mountains with our family!)

Our 4 bedroom (which includes the Pendleton National Park blanket bunk room) home features two separate bedroom areas reached by their own staircases. This thoughtful design is perfect for couples or families traveling together and desiring their privacy. The Historic [the oldest home in CB] and renovated 1880's cabin's staircase leads to two bedrooms. The first bedroom features a beautiful upholstered king sized bed with Italian monogramed linen bedding. The memory foam mattress with heated mattress pad and luxurious down bedding creates a sleeping experience to rival any 5 star hotel. The fresh and fluffy bathrobes complement the fine resort feeling. The second bedroom features a twin bed with a trundle bed. The beds are dressed in Bavarian styled plaid Designer Guild bedding with the softest sheets and dreamy down bedding both with top of the line memory foam mattresses. The smaller bathroom has endless hot water, a subway tile and white Carrera marble shower with a thick custom built glass shower door. The bath is stocked with hand soap, shampoo & conditioner, body wash, hairspray, Q-tips, hairspray, hair dryer, body lotion, and a variety of medicines if needed.

The Historic part of the home also features a lovely entryway with a french door, antique table, bench and baskets of slippers to warm your feet on snowy days. The antique desk with Kilim designer chair, antique armoire (filled with books), antique chest, original commissioned art, antique rugs, gas stove and club chair with a light, wool throw and huge picture window with a view of Mt. Crested Butte make this an area you may cozy up in and never leave. A bathroom with endless hot water, antique art, antique mirror, shower, tub and custom vanity topped with granite is perfectly located in the center of the home. It too, has all of the amenities listed above and is next to the state of the art laundry room with all laundry essentials.

The third bedroom located in the newly constructed portion of the home is a large, airy, light and delightful master suite. It too rivals any 5 star hotel with an amazing king sized bed, Italian linen bedding, an Italian Pratesi Duvet with shams and fluffy robes. The two down comforters, pillows and featherbed transport you to a sleeping place you may never want to leave. An antique French dresser, original art, a reading nook with an arm chair, light and luxurious throw complement the space. The master bath features wide views of the Elk Mountain Range and Mt. Crested Butte. The marble and granite shower is large enough for two, has a marble bench and steam that melts away any cares and stiff muscles. The chandelier, twin sink granite vanity and separate toilet round out the beautiful bath.

The huge basement level (unusual in Crested Butte) is a kid's paradise. With four sets of bunk beds (6 full and 2 twin beds,) German flannel bedding, Pendleton Blankets and down comforters make this room so cozy your kids may never surface. A foosball table, 55' flatscreen HDTV, Xbox 360, Wii, Blu-ray DVD player and Netflix compliment the entertainment area.

Our home has a comfortable fenced in yard with a historic guest cabin in the back that is not available for rent. An outdoor teak table, 8 chairs and umbrella sit comfortably on a brick patio with a NEW, HAND FORGED IRON FIREPIT and 4 surrounding adirondack chairs to warm chilly summer evenings. A new, large Saber infrared natural gas grill is perfect for fun backyard gatherings and cookouts. There are two beautiful perennial mountain flower gardens that explode during the summer. An official horseshoe pit and a cornhole (Baggo) game for compliment an outdoor oasis. The front features beautiful flower beds along with two brick patios, table & chairs, an umbrella and adirondack chairs to sit out front and watch the characters of CB go by. There are also 4 cruiser bikes for your use while in CB. A long driveway and 1 car garage provide convenient off street parking for several cars.

Our home is located in an outdoor mecca. It is thought that CB is the original home and creator of mountain biking and features the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame. The hiking, biking, camping, fishing on world class waters, hunting, horse back riding, kayaking, canoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice climbing, mountain climbing, skating and running trails are some of the finest in North America. The outdoor beauty is awe inspiring and will create a permanent picture of beauty in your mind. The numerous year round festivals are great fun for the whole family. And as in gentler days, kids play in the streets and ride their bikes everywhere. Whether you are strolling wildflower populated trails with your kids or climbing 14,000 foot peaks there is something for everyone here.

About Jill and Jerry Baker

We are empty nesters with two adult, professional children. We met while attending the University of Colorado in Boulder and were married in 1986. We have raised our kids here and they too are huge outdoor enthusiasts. From their earliest days they have skied, biked, run, camped and fished in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. We make a trek to the mountains most weeks and feel truly blessed to enjoy all that our state has to offer. We hope you feel the same way when you visit our home in Crested Butte.

Jill and Jerry Baker purchased this house in 2013

Why Jill and Jerry Baker chose Crested Butte Area

After owning a property in Summit County for 18 years we became disenchanted with the touristy, year round crowds, local traffic and crazy commute times on I-70. We decided to explore the abundant resort towns in Colorado looking for a more authentic feel and down to earth ski town experience.

After spending a summer week in CB and falling in love with the natural surrounding area, we rented long term to see if we loved the area year round. With a resounding yes, we knew this was where we wanted to vacation and retire. It took us 9 months to find a perfect mix of a Historical property with eco-friendly construction, green materials and with high efficiency HVAC systems. (Thoughtful construction leaving a minimal footprint on the environment was very important to us!)

The Historical section of the home gave us a piece of the mining history of CB we were drawn to with new open spaces to fit all of our families needs. The new, empty home provided a palette to create our dream mountain home. We wanted to design the home to be airy, light , comfortable and fun. The stodgy and overdone design of the typical mountain home featuring antler chandeliers, browns, dark reds, dark greens and heavy curtains were a look we wanted to avoid. We opted for a take on a Bavarian 5 star hotel with greens, pinks and comfortable down furnishing and bedding to sink into. The old and new sections of the home delight the eye and allow the occupants to feel a part of history of CB while luxuriating in the newest and best of comfortable living.

In my design I always look for a few key pieces to delight and surprise the visitor. I hope you will easily spot my whimsical pieces and smile at the humor intended. Enjoy!!!

What makes this house unique

Aside from the design aspects of our home both inside and out, the proximity of our in-town home to everything CB has to offer makes your stay fun and easy. Once you are here a car is not needed. (A shuttle from the Gunnison Airport is an easy 20 minute ride.) The grocery store and the shuttle to Mt Crested Butte and are two easy blocks away. Historic Elk Avenue, where you find the action is one block away. We wanted to be able to walk and ride everywhere with our family, friends and future generations.

Great home for families!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I shared this lovely home with our two sons and their families.

There were six adults and four kids. The kids loved the downstairs "bunk room".

They had their own space and TV so the adults could enjoy the sitting room. Kitchen was great. Not only did it have all the appliances needed it was stocked with so many food items, condiments, bottled water etc. We spent two weeks and hated to leave. The master suite had a very comfortable king size bed and large bathroom that was separated from the other upstairs bedrooms. Hope to stay here again when we return to Crested Butte.

Our "Home away from Home!"

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd year in a row we have rented with this fantastic family. We go in the summer to escape the heat, and it continues to amaze and enthrall us! Besides being such a great location, we also adore the Baker family. The house is so well built for any need you might want.....right down to that famous black folder which contains any info you need. Not only is the house well suited for 2 families, but it is built with all you need to cook a fantastic gourmet meal, or take a fabulous steam shower. The renovations to the back yard complete this treasure. We look for ward to our 2 week stay and hope to return for many years!

Fantastic family cabin

  • 5 of 5

We have rented this home two years in a row and we find it to be an amazing home for adults and kids. We stay here with our 3 kids and another family that has 2 kids as well. The downstairs bunk room or "kids lair" as our kids have named it is perfect for 5 to 8 kids to bunk in and hang out. The bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are all high quality and the kitchen has everything you need for your stay. The location is fantastic and we walked to all the restaurants on Elk Avenue. The home is close to the grocery store as well. I could not recommend a home more than this one - just don't try and rent it for our week next year!

Great house for a ski trip!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 14 for a ski trip and this place was perfect! The house was awesome and very clean. The location could not have been better: just a few steps to the main strip and also right by the free ski shuttle. The owners are extremely nice and were very prompt in returning all of my messages. They also were very helpful with tips and suggestions. I'd highly recommend staying here any time of the year and I would definitely do it again!!

Awesome house!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house with another family and had plenty of room for us all. It's a fabulous house with a fun atmosphere and included everything you could want. Short walks to ski shuttle, restaurants, that we never had to get in our car the whole week! Owners were great to work with and will rent again if we go back to CB.

Kansas City area

We just returned home from a three-night stay at this lovely, clean home within a block of the unique shops and restaurants in downtown Crested Butte. Our group consisted of three 50-something adults and six 20-something adults in town for a family wedding. The house was exactly as described, with plenty of comfortable beds and linens, a beautiful, fully- equipped kitchen and great gathering spaces inside and out. I was especially impressed with all the unexpected "extras" such as cozy bathrobes in the master bedrooms, eclectic art and furnishings, outdoor cornhole and horseshoe games, and extra toiletries in each bathroom. The younger guests enjoyed the 3-D television and glasses in the large dorm-like basement bedroom which included 8 beds which were reportedly very comfortable. We were not there long enough to use the laundry room, but did use the iron/ironing board for clothes wrinkled from travel. We didn't do any cooking or grilling, but we thoroughly enjoyed having a refrigerator with plenty of ice, a good coffeemaker and toaster, plenty of dishes and glasses. The layout of the home was also nice, because each bedroom area was isolated, so noise from television and talking in the comfy hearth room did not disturb those who slept in. Really, we couldn't have asked for more. I would certainly recommend this home to visitors, and would rent this again if I have the chance to get back to Crested Butte!
