About the property

Luxury Retreat Bordering Both Amador & El Dorado Wine Countries

**LAST-MINUTE DISCOUNTED RATES FOR AUGUST-2017!

Welcome to the Hillcrest Cabin, a luxury, hillside retreat situated along the picturesque Shenandoah Wine Trail. We are located in the quaint and quirky village of River Pines, which is conveniently centered amongst two world-class wine regions: The Shenandoah Valley of Amador County, and the Fairplay AVA of El Dorado County. The nearest winery is only one mile down the road, and there are more than 50 wineries within a 10 mile radius to enjoy! The neighborhood was originally built in the 1920’s as a vacation resort, but has since become a popular community for retirees. Visitors will enjoy the same regional activities the locals do including: wine tasting, hiking, boating, fishing, cavern tours, and sightseeing at the many Gold Rush era sites and historic towns.

Our family purchased this unique property in 2013 and began renovating it from the top down. Special property features include: new central heat and air, hardwood flooring, fresh paint, and updated fixtures throughout. Guests will appreciate the home’s stylish amenities and furnishings including king size beds, luxury linens, plus attractive artwork and accessories. The cabin also offers a fully remodeled and stocked kitchen with new shaker cabinets, quartz counters and GE slate appliances. The designer bathrooms were fully re-built offering a clean and modern aesthetic. We also offer our guests a brand new 50” HDTV with a bluetooth sound system. Enjoy one of DirecTV’s best entertainment packages featuring SonicTap Music, plus all of the HBO channels!

The cabin sits on a hillside double-lot dotted with tall oaks, pine trees and interesting rock outcroppings. Perched in the treetops, you’ll feel a sense of serenity and privacy, even with neighbors nearby. The property offers a spacious outdoor area dedicated for picnics, campfires and good conversation. There's also an outdoor balcony featuring an infrared Charbroil gas grill that guests can use for outdoor cooking.

We are proud to be a pet friendly vacation rental. Guests are welcome to bring their well-behaved and well-groomed canine companions (sorry, no cats). An additional fee applies per pet, and helps us cover the added expense of hosting four legged guests. We have dog beds onsite as well as food and water bowls. Please note that our property is not fenced, so our cabin is best suited for dogs that will not wander or stray. We do provide an outdoor stake with extended tethers so your pups can roam safely and enjoy some outdoor time with you.

Thanks so much for visiting our property profile. We hope that you’ll join us soon and make our vacation rental your new home away from home! Sincerely, The Juarez-More Family – Shelley, Jason, Carissa, Michael & Chelsea

**Last-minute discounted rates will be automatically applied and are valid for new bookings only. Standard rates are $135/night (Mon - Thu) and $215/night (Fri - Sun)

About Carissa More (& Family)

Family owned cabin by three couples. This is our family's second home. We are Realtors and professional property rehabbers. This property is one of our proudest remodels, and we are happy to share it with other travelers and wine lovers.

Carissa More (& Family) purchased this house in 2013

Why Carissa More (& Family) chose California

We love wine and we love the Sierra Foothills Gold Country! It's California's historic wine country with some of the oldest producing vines. Even beyond wine tasting there are so many sightseeing and recreational opportunities to enjoy in the region.

What makes this house unique

The closest winery, Sobon Estate, is only a 1 minute drive from our cabin! Keep driving beyond and you'll find dozens of world class vineyards and tasting rooms all within a 15 mile radius. Aside from wine tasting, the rugged beauty of the Sierra Foothills also beckons hikers, rafters, cyclists, and history buffs.

Respite from chaos

  • 5 of 5

Air conditioned, well maintained home. Seems to be above standard as far as (our) rentals go. It was lovely and comfortable. It also felt newer and more modern than other rentals we've tried. (FYI the bistro at Villa Toscanini had great ambience and ... snickerdoodles!) We'd do it again in a heartbeat! Carissa and her husband were extremely gracious. Thank you for a nice change from the Bay Area chaos. The Taylors

Perfect location for a family get away

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights at this River Pines home with our two adult children and it was perfect. The house is beautifully appointed, had everything we needed to relax for a few days after Christmas. The photos and description are accurate, the house was clean and well maintained. The owner was very responsive and the transaction was smooth. Close to the Amador and El Dorado County wineries, and nice hiking. Will definitely be considering another stay.

Charming spot

  • 5 of 5

We did enjoy our stay. It is a comfortable well-fitted spacious cabin in a beautiful location. There is easy access to the local wineries and other features of the area, especially historical relics of the Gold Rush era. It is not too far from Lake Tahoe, although we chose not to go there on this trip. We had some difficulties with the internet connection but there was mobile phone service.

Charming. Comfortable. Clean.

  • 5 of 5

We experienced several days of fun and relaxation. This property was everything we expected and more. Provisions and supplies were perfect. The location and setting was ideal. Our only complaint was we ran out of paper towels and couldn't find any in reserve so I left you half a roll that I kept in my car. We would stay again if the occasion came up.

Clean, comfortable, easy drive to wineries, dog friendly

  • 4 of 5

The home is very well equipped, including air conditioning - a must have in the summer if you want to sleep! We cooked every night, using both the BBQ and the oven/stove. Everything we needed was there. We also appreciated that the hosts provide a binder complete with all the information you need. We stay at a lot of VRBO homes, and hate it when there is no information about the house or the area provided, and we are left with lots of questions. That was not a problem here.

The house is clean, and the bed is very comfortable. It is very relaxed, and dog friendly. You are on the corner of two streets, and although not heavily traveled, do be careful with your dogs. Ours is old and well behaved, but the front door is about two steps from the (lesser traveled of the two) streets. The location is a little interesting. The neighbors were friendly, but it is definitely a locals kind of feel - with lots of interesting "yard stuff" abound. We wished we had a more private yard area, but that is a small concern.

Great wineries are located within an easy drive. The grocery store in Plymouth is also convenient, but might be best to do your grocery shopping on the way in and get it done for your stay. Every winery we went to was dog friendly, although a few do not permit them to come inside (not a big deal; we sat outside mostly anyway).

We definitely recommend this as a home base for wine tasting in the Shenandoah wine region!
