Spacious, Bright 2 B/r In Nice's Most Vibrant Neighborhood

La Luciole (The Firefly) is located in a classic 1936 Art Deco building in the heart of Nice's Le Petit Marais neighborhood (Port). Recently renovated and fully furnished to a high standard, the flat's herringbone parquet floors, handmade cement tiles, high ceilings and modern open kitchen make it an inspiring base for exploring Nice and the stunning Cote d'Azur.

Handmade octagonal cement tiles in the entry, created by artisans in Aix-en-Provence, lend a modern twist to the traditional Niçoise tomette tile style. Three full balconies open from both bedrooms and the living room to overlook the lively street below. Enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the antique marble bistro tables. A fourth corner Juliet balcony enhances the kitchen/dining area. Every room is bathed in sunlight.

One large bedroom has a closet, bureau and 180cm x 200 cm bed. Glass doors with provençal shutters open to a balcony with a marble bistro table and chairs. The other bedroom is smaller, with a closet, small desk and a pull-out IKEA BRIMNES daybed (160x200). It also has a balcony with a bistro table.

A brand new, open kitchen faces the sunny living room. Guests can entertain the cook while enjoying a glass of rosé at the bar, seated in vintage workers' chairs purchased from the Garibaldi antiques market. A stove and oven, full-sized refrigerator and dishwasher and fully equipped kitchen make dining in a delight.

A good-sized single bathroom, also recently renovated, with rain shower, full sized bathtub, sink and toilet is walled in white subway tiles and black and white tiles on the floor.

Why Christine Quirk chose Nice

I love Nice Port. It's not as sleepy or as touristy as other parts of Nice. With restaurants and shops frequented by local residents, it still feels like a real Niçois neighborhood. I love the charcouteries, boucheries, traiteurs and patisseries on Rue Bonaparte, just steps from the front door. New wine bars, restaurants and design shops open all the time and lively, pedestrianized Place du Pin is 3 minutes away.

I love that every attraction in Nice, from the beach to the Old City to the Promenade, is no more than 12 minutes' walk away. Every form of public transportation is convenient, meaning everywhere from Cannes to Monaco to Italy is easily accessible.

What makes this apartment unique

I purchased, renovated and decorated the apartment myself at the end of 2013. I love its Art Deco details, including the iron elevator, the herringbone wood floors and the high ceilings with original mouldings. It houses my personal collection of carpets, art and collectibles I've acquired throughout the world. I selected the furnishings from Nice's many antique shops and fairs. It's the kind of place and neighborhood I want to live in!
