About Andrew and Sabina Soloway

We are from the NY metropolitan area and found Tilden Pond one summer after renting in the Mid-Coast region for years. It has become a haven for us and our children. A great place for all of us to unwind.

Andrew and Sabina Soloway purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Andrew and Sabina Soloway chose Maine

After visiting family for many years in the Mid-Coast region and having gone to college in the Northeast it felt natural for us to find a home in the beautiful state of Maine. The warm waters of Tilden Pond in conjunction with ALL the activities and attractions the area offers make this spot so special. We come up from the New York area as often as we can and look forward to sharing this beautiful home with you.

What makes this cottage unique

The views from every window, being right on the water, the unmatchable local produce and the low key approach to life have made our home on Tilden the perfect getaway destination. Come listen to the loons and spot the eagles soaring overhead.

Tranquility with Loons

  • 5 of 5

I hate to write this review because we want to be able to book it again, but I can't lie. This is probably the most beautiful place we have ever stayed--and we travel a lot both here and abroad. That first sunny morning, the view from our bed in the master bedroom was astounding. All the views are wonderful. The "pond" is gorgeous no matter what the weather or time of day and the resident loons are usually in sight and calling to each other. The house is fully equipped and well appointed both inside and out. Must say we had TV withdrawal at first. But we streamed a couple of our favorites and used the built-in DVD player for the CD's. There are DVD's here or bring your own. We ended up reading most evenings and listening to the loons. Because May is very early in the season in Maine, we saw only a few eagles and the fish were biting intermittently. But there a some big ones in there. If the schedule permits, we hope to return for two weeks next time and bring the family.

A beautiful and peaceful Maine retreat.

  • 5 of 5

I have been vacationing in Maine with my family for over 40 years, from the Rangeley Lakes region, to the rugged Maine coast, and this lovely home and pond, have been the nicest of all. No need to search any longer, this is it.

New Cherished Memories

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary visiting Maine for the first time and stayed in this incredible cottage for two weeks. Absolutely nothing failed to delight us about either. We had the best of both worlds; lovely pond-side cottage with its tranquility, wildlife, seclusion and great views of and access to the water for kayaking and fishing. plus a great central location for day trips to all the mid-coast harbor towns and fishing villages. The home is perfectly appointed and thoughtfully furnished and lacked nothing during our stay. The owner was the most responsive and simple to deal with of all our vacation rentals to date. Highly recommended, though I almost hesitate to do so since it might create competition for our return visit!

Tilden Pond retreat

  • 5 of 5

This property is extremely well-maintained. The decor was tasteful and the living room furniture was comfortable. Location is also perfect for bird watching, sightseeing, shopping and dining. The layout encourages lots of breakaway privacy for larger groups. We loved it. Just wished it was cooler so we could have used the fireplace. Thanks for sharing your family home. Hope to get back soon.

Beauty and peace on Tilden Pond

  • 5 of 5

This home on Tilden Pond is lovely, inside and out. The home itself is very comfortable and welcoming. Every spot you chose to sit has a beautiful view of the pond. I would have a hard time deciding where to have my morning coffee. The screen porch was usually where I would land, but on the gorgeous mornings we had, I would sit out on the deck. I found myself completely immersed in the view and had my camera on hand at all times. We kayaked, swam, read, rested, and explored the surrounding area. Everything you need is a few miles away in Belfast, but when you are at the pond, you feel completely away from it all. A perfect family retreat.

Time off in the Pine Tree State

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely house, well appointed and comfortable. The boats were used regularly, as was the screened in room. I had not seen such definition in the Milky Way for many a year, and the s'mores were particularly good over the fire pit. Belfast is a nice town, with a working shipyard, and many fine restaurants and shops. Don't bring groceries, as the local stores have plenty at fair rates.

Acadia and Bar Harbor are not far, and neither are Wiscasset, Rockport, Camden nor the lovely lighthouse at Pemaquid Point. The Camden Hills State Park is a treasure, with spectacular views of the Penobscot Bay after a challenging hike.

Finally, the whole place is populated with Mainers, who are the inverse of John Kennedy's quote about Washington D.C: All the hospitality of the South, and the efficiency of the North. A singular distinction from the mad scurry that is a typical vacation; a vacation from vacations. And the comfortable, spacious home is an integral part of the experience. Light streaming through many windows and cool air combine to afford sublime comfort. Naturally, there is a hammock among the pines, which waft the scent of balsam over the visitor as you drift off in the evening air to the lonesome cry of the loons.
