About the property

2 homes--3 bedroom and 2 bedroom, each has 2 bathrooms with all furnishings

The 4 acre property can host up to 15 individuals if using both the home and cottage. Rent both for your group and enjoy a quiet home and a busy one where you gather to eat and have fun together. The cost is $4,000 when rented together. The property is centrally located between Suttons Bay and Traverse City with access to just about anything a visitor would want in a vacation area. These two properties have 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, two kitchens, and are two across the street from each other, one on the lake and one looking across the road at the lake. The location is on a quiet street which leads to apple and cherry orchards. You can bike to a bike trail which takes you miles into Traverse County or north into Leelanau County. You can relax on the deck/patio/screen porch and watch boats, eagles, ducks, or geese go by as you drink your refreshments. The property owner is nearby to address any issues or to direct you to your favorite activity.

About Larry Watterworth

The owner bought the property after visiting the property on a warm September day and looking south across the bay. He worked as an Assistant Attorney General in Michigan and upon the loss of his wife to cancer left city life and returned the the peace and quiet of living on west bay in North Michigan. Life is slower here and one has time to reflect and find peace.

Lake House

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the lake house in July 2015 and were pleasantly surprised! It is clean and well stocked. The view is extremely nice as you are directly on the bay. It is close to Sutton's Bay and about 20 minutes from Traverse City. It is convenient to a variety of small quaint towns. Although there is no air conditioning, you get the breeze from the lake which makes it very comfortable. We had a lovely time. The owner was friendly to deal with and replied promptly. It was a really wonderful vacation experience! Thanks much!!!

Outstanding views of West Bay/Grand Traverse Bay from home on Lee Point

  • 5 of 5

I was somewhat anxious about the Lake House and whether it would suit our family's needs for a week vacation Up North, as there were no reviews to look at - and that has always been important to me when booking through VRBO. So I am happy to say that we had a fantastic time and the home was nearly perfect.

I think that the listing description could be more clear about the Lake House and cottage (across the road) and the cost for each. Also, the pictures could be more current and show the third bedroom of the Lake House, which actually has a king bed and bunk beds. It is clear that Larry had been working to update the bedroom, and the 3 level patio on the bay is new from what is pictured. (Also, he has added a screened porch to the cottage across the road.)

The home is well furnished with beautiful, quality, antique furniture; very comfortable beds, and new appliances. The flat screen TVs, Bose speakers, and Weber grill did not go unnoticed. The living room/kitchen area is open with high ceilings, which made this more home-like and less cottage-y than what we have had in the past. (The kids counted 27 clocks in that area alone! Part of an impressive collection.)

What absolutely charmed all of us were the beautiful views of West Bay. With the southern exposure and cove we were in, the calm waters and minimal wind were perfect for a week of temps in the 70's. It felt MUCH warmer. We lived on the patio that seemed to perch us over the water, and ate meals on the deck. With the high water level the beach area was small, but very adequate for us. Larry allowed us use of 2 kayaks, which gave us opportunity to paddle around to cool off and enjoy the views from the clearest blue water. The master bedroom had floor to ceiling views of the bay, so I went to bed with the lights of Traverse City visible 10 miles away, and I awoke to the soft light of another clear day.

There is so much to do in the immediate area of Sutton's Bay. We golfed, biked, went wine-tasting, and visited Leland with our grown kids, who were with us for part of the week. My husband and I toured around the entire Leelanau peninsula and did some shopping in Sutton's Bay - only 5 miles away. Our favorite restaurant was the Village Inn (VI) for breakfast, although we did not eat out often. We weren't looking for reasons to leave our beautiful Lake House.

We would definitely recommend to family and friends. Larry was friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great week!
