This 900 square feet, two story cabin (our garage turned into a cabin until we build our retirement home here) was completed in 2013. Conveniently, located 2 miles off Route 220 sitting on 2.2 acres. 111 feet private access of Craig Creek is in your back yard and Jefferson Nation Forest is in your front yard. The Cabin is a studio style with semi private bedroom queen size bed, infrared heater and the living room has a vent-free propane fireplace, also two full size futons that have thick mattresses, full kitchen, living area has a bar, laundry room with propane heater, bathroom with large rain shower, large patio, Screened in porch with swinging bed and dining table (enclosed during the winter with a propane heater), fire pit, corn hole boards and garage.

In the Winter this makes the prefect romantic weekend get away with the fireplace.

Bring your mountain bikes and ride the gravel roads. Once you cross the Phoenix Historic RR Bridge there isn't much traffic and it is the only way in and out to the cabin. There are great trails within an hour drive; Scenic Jackson, Greenbrier River Trail and the New River Trail.

There is hiking; Roaring Run, Douthat State Park and many others in the two National Forests: Jefferson (in front of the cabin) and George Washington National Forest.

Water: There is our pristine Craig Creek, James River (we are at the section called the "Upper James River Trail" the section from Eagle Rock to Springwood is a 14 miles stretch labeled 'Virginia Scenic River System') , the Jackson River and the Cow Pasture both make up the James River. They are located approximately 13.8 miles north. If you don't have water vehicles they can rented at Twin River Outfitters in Buchanan. Full Service Fishing Guide "Rock On Charters" Muskie and Small Mouth Bass; everything provided but VA Fishing License. They'll even pick you up!

There is SO MUCH TO DO! Within an hour drive is Roanoke, Lexington or Lewisburg, WV (home of the WV State Fair in August). Hot Springs with the Thomas Jefferson Hot Springs to soak in what is believed to be healing waters and sking. Wineries with entertainment and a brewery. History! You are stay in one of the two original counties of this country, Botetourt with historic Fincastle just down the road. Clifton Forge is a must see town. There is even a cave open to the public between Clifton Forge and Low Moor. Bring your own equipment because you're on your own!

If you want to stay in there are movies and board games. This is the place we go to get away from the world and electronics, so Sorry, no cable or internet! We'll always help you locate what it is you want to see or do. Visit Seay's Escape on Facebook.

About April "Dawn" Seay

Larry and I have been together since 1981 and married in 1984. We've owned a dog grooming shop for the past 25 years. We have two sons that love to come down there with us and bring their their friends to fish, hike and kayak or just hang out. We plan to retire on this lot, so we can continue to enjoy the great outdoors! Our sons are in college. We are still traveling quite a bit. We don't have the time go to the cabin as much as we would like so we thought we'd try renting it as a vacation home.

We have always loved Craig Creek area. After many years of dreaming about owning a place on the creek, this lot came available at the right time for us. So in 2012 we built our garage and a large RV pad. Well, that turned into a temporary cabin and screen porch. We have plans to build our permanent retire home adjacent to the garage.

April "Dawn" Seay purchased this cabin in 2007

Why April "Dawn" Seay chose Eagle Rock

This is a unique place located directly across the road from the national forest and on pristine Craig Creek. The cabin itself has much up-cycled products redone in a creative way. There is much to do in this area, yet you can have quiet time at the cabins.

What makes this cabin unique

This tiny cabin took nearly two years to complete. It has 60 yr reclaimed beaded pine boards from a house in Blacksburg and another in Vinton. 80 yr old rough sawn tongue and groove doors from a cabin in Salem. 60 yr Metal cabinets from a home in Lynchburg. The bathroom vanity is a 100 yr old antique washstand refinished and converted. When hand building and designing this cabin I wanted to feel great when I was there and so all the special touches were done to create that atmosphere. We hope you'll feel the same.

Scenic, relaxing and memorable

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were looking for a quiet relaxing spot to spend our 1st anniversary. From the the moment we arrived at the Seay's cabin (a brilliantly converted garage) we knew we made the right decision! The cozy ambiance of the decor was warm and inviting. We spent our time together sitting by the creek, or by the fire pit and of course on the swinging bed on the screened in porch. In fact I would say if you were going here with lots of plans to visit the surrounding area, be prepared to be flexible because it wasn't easy to leave the comfort of this cabin once we we're settled in. Do plan to visit Roaring Run which is only a few miles away. It's sights, and sounds are a can't miss! The whole experience was amazing for the 2 of us and we would definitely love to go back.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here! The house is beautiful and cozy and has everything you could want, including a full kitchen stocked with cookware, laundry facilities, and a tv with DVDs and an Xbox. It was bitterly cold during our stay, but the house stayed plenty warm. There’s great hiking within an hour’s drive, and plenty of information on those and other local attractions at the house. Dawn made the process easy for us.

Cozy out of the way place.

  • 5 of 5

We sat around and enjoyed the view. It was a nice change of pace from city life. We were amazed at all the stars you can see at night.

Cozy getaway for two

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyable experience. Dawn was an outstanding owner. Weather turned cool and we experienced a heater problem. She lives an hour away but arranged to meet us at the cabin with the heater mechanic to get the problem fixed (it was). The sun room was enjoyable although the weather limited its use. The kitchen is tight but functional with only the two of us. We did not lack for anything. Only suggestion - lighting is dim upstairs - brighter overhead lights would be helpful, especially for "old eyes."

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and we are truly happy you enjoyed yourselves despite the weather turning cold. We did add lamps to each room for a total of four lamps upstairs in addition to the two ceiling lights. Sorry this was not sufficient for you stay. Again I apologize about the heater but thank you for the compliment about my ownership, I truly care about everyone's stay. It was a pleasure to meet you both.

Comfortable and scenic mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed 3 nights at Seay's Escape in Eagle Rock, VA. The place had plenty of room for us. It has a really unique design and you can tell it is well thought out and tastefully done. For example it has a very comfortable swinging bed on the back screened in porch that overlooks the back woods and creek, and outdoor shower and toilet in addition to the full bathroom indoors, stained glass throughout and a fully stocked modern kitchen. The house is set back down a very private road and away from any highway noise. Just the sounds of crickets at night. Beautiful foggy sunrises every morning greeted us and it was easy to find outdoor activities to fill our days. It is a beautiful scenic area. Dawn, the host, was very helpful, answering all our questions and offering suggestions for things that we might like. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
