Cavendish Vacation Cottage is a New Construction for 2014 in Private Development
Cavendish Vacation Cottage...Relaxation, Comfort and Convenience
Cavendish Vacation Cottage, which borders directly on PEI National Park, was custom-built in 2014 by the owners for guest and personal use in 2014.
Cavendish Beach Tourist Area
This luxury ocean-view cottage is located in the heart of the popular Cavendish Tourist Area, and is very close to restaurants and shops as well as many popular attractions including Anne of Green Gables and the world famous Cavendish Beach!
And just down the road - a short drive or scenic bike ride along the Gulf Ocean Parkway - is popular and picturesque North Rustico Harbour, which boasts an active fishing harbour, fine dining, family restaurants, gifts shops, fresh fish and seafood shops, a bank and a liquor and beer store.
Authentic PEI Experience
The cottage, which sleeps eight - and is wheelchair accessible on the main floor - boasts more than 1600+ square feet of living space with three bedrooms and one and a half baths.
Guests will find the unique décor including an authentic 8’ fishing dory hanging from the ceiling in the loft area and lobster traps (that were used by local fishermen), which have been re-purposed for use as kitchen pot racks!
Moreover, the interior will give guests a definite 'PEI Feel' with artwork depicting indigenous wildlife such as foxes (which love to play out in the open on the south end of PEI National Park, much to the delight of visitors), eagles and waterfowl.
In the spacious and bright gourmet kitchen, guests, who wish to cook, will find an abundance of custom maple cabinetry, quartz counter tops, four stainless steel GE appliances, a full compliment of small appliances by Kitchen Aid and Cuisinart (including an ice cream maker and espresso maker), and a wide selection of PEI’s own Paderno pots, including a 16 L stock pot large enough for an old fashioned lobster boil. Guests will enjoy dining at an informal oversized custom kitchen island that seats 6 in an open concept kitchen/living room area. And just outside the front door, for the gourmet chef, is two large planters filled with various kitchen herbs.
At the same time, guests who chose to dine out will be pleased to know that there is an abundance of nearby fine-dinning, family restaurants and snack-bars (including one popular snack bar that is close enough for children, who seek a bit of independence, to walk to on their own while within full sight of their parents relaxing on the cottage deck), including several within walking distance such as Rachel's Ristorante, which has excellent eat-in and take-out meals.
High-End Finishes and the Latest Technology
High-end finishes include Natuzzi leather furniture, finished in a colour reminiscent of roasted red peppers, a built in stereo surround sound system, two very quiet high capacity remote control Fujitsu air conditioning systems, air exchanger, WiFi Internet, telephone (with free calling across Canada and the US) and Eastlink HD cable TV service on all five TVs.
Focal Point of Main Living Area
The focal point of the main living area is a gas fireplace, which adds a touch of romance and warmth on the occasional chilly, but refreshing, maritime evening. Over the fireplace, in a custom built cabinet, is an LG 60" Smart TV that is Netflix compatible, Yamaha 5.1 audio system, LG DVD and CD players and five built-in Polk surround sound stereo speakers, including a center channel speaker and sub-woofer, which will surely please even the most discerning audiophile. And for ease of operation, all the electronics are controllable by one easy to use Harmony remote!
What's more, guests can choose from an eclectic collection of classic and recently released CDs and DVDs, including a large selection of children's movies.
Stunning Sunsets and Views of the Atlantic Ocean
Overlooking the living area is a spacious loft designed for comfort with a sofa bed, two leather Natuzzi chairs that recline, swivel and rock, and a 32” LG TV, not to mention a stunning west-facing view of the Atlantic Ocean and PEI National Park ... a great place to start the day with a morning coffee or just relax and watch the sunset.
Cavendish Vacation Cottage Library
The cottage also boasts its own small library with many carefully chosen titles including classic PEI works by Lucy Maud Montgomery, and a number of other newly published books, many of which are in the Globe and Mail and New York Times Best Seller Lists that are sure to have wide appeal.
Luxury Beds and Fine Linens
And speaking of relaxing, the master bedroom has a Serta iSeries Comfort king size bed with soft and comfortable high thread count sheets, two-night tables, reading lamps, a large dresser, a wall mounted flat screen TV, perfect for watching from bed, and a spacious closet.
The upstairs bedrooms also have Serta iSeries mattresses, with a queen size bed in one and two twin beds in the other.
Each bedroom is spacious with large closets, luxury pillows, silk duvets, for optimal summer comfort, and high-end linens. Also included in each bedroom is flat screen a TV and ceiling fan. And for full privacy, each window in the cottage has custom-made wooden vertical blinds.
Infant and Child-Friendly
For guests with young children, the south-east facing second-floor bedroom also has a comfortable leather chair that rocks, reclines and swivels and soft warm throw that is ideal for rocking an infant or toddler to sleep after a long fun-filled day at the beach in comfort. What's more, there is a small collection of board games and children's books.
One and a Half Baths
On the main level is a large master 4 piece bath, fully equipped with GE front load washer and dryer, mounted on pedestals for added convenience, and a separate laundry sink. The second floor has a nicely appointed 2-piece bath with custom built cabinetry. There is also an abundance of soft cotton bath towels and a separate set of eight beach towels!
Large Outdoor Room
Moreover, the owners of the cottage have not overlooked guests' outdoor experience by including a large over-sized 600 square foot wrap around deck (that offers both sun and shade options throughout the day), commercial grade Charbroil stainless gas BBQ, 10 Muskoka style chairs and 5 end tables - all custom painted in red, green, yellow, tan, and blue - and numerous railing-mounted market umbrellas for guests seeking a break from the sun.
This magnificent outdoor living area also features a Pfister stainless steel outdoor shower panel, which allows guests to just cool down on a hot day or rinse off after a day at the beach.
Complimentary Prince Edward Island National Park and Beach Pass
This luxury cottage is fully equipped to meet the needs of the most discerning guests, and even includes the use of a free season's pass to Prince Edward Island National Park and Cavendish Beach and six beach chairs!
Just a stone's throw away is Stephanie Scharf, a lovely massage therapist who is a dear friend of the cottage owners. Stephanie, originally from Ottawa, lives in the former Cavendish United Church Manse near the four corners at Cavendish with her husband, Chris. Stephanie would be pleased to offer guests staying at Cavendish Vacation Cottage a relaxing massage at reasonable rates.

About Marie Wedge
The owners, Scott Bleecker and Nathan Nesdoly, who adore PEI, spent more than three-years searching for the ideal cottage design and location. What’s more, they spent countless hours working with a custom builder at Driftwood Landing to create a one-of-a-kind authentic PEI cottage experience. As no expense was spared, guests are sure to experience nothing less than complete relaxation, comfort and convenience. When time permits Scott, a recently retired Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant, and Nathan, a kindergarten and grade-one teacher, along with their two adopted children, Chad and Christina, love to enjoy all PEI has to offer. At the same time, they enjoy sharing their Cavendish cottage with guests and friends alike who enjoy all the cottage and the area has to offer.

Well stocked cottage
The cottage was very well stocked and charming. The house had everything you would need and more. There were lots of movies for kids and adults if you wanted a movie night. It was clear that a lot of thought was put in to setting up the cottage with comfort and fun in mind. It was unfortunate that there wasn't direct beach access. You have to get into your car to get to the beach. It is only a short drive, but I like being able to walk there. I would recommend having some written instructions at the cottage to explain things like how to use tv/stereo, rules for recycling, How to adjust air conditioner, how to access beach and nearest grocery store, etc. We were very comfortable at the cottage and loved the island.
The owners of Cavendish Vacation Cottage appreciate that Shelagh took the time to provide well-considered feedback. They are also pleased that she found the cottage charming, well-equipped and comfortable. However, as suggested, the owners will gladly provide guests with user friendly written details how to operate the cottage's TV/stereo and air conditioning systems, how to manage recycling and provide directions to the beach, where the nearest grocery store is located, and such.
We've just checked out after an eight night stay. This location and setting is pretty much exemplary of what one might expect when travelling to the island. There are endless indescribable landscapes and seascapes in the area, including those witnessed from the back porch. The proximity to Cavendish and PEI National Park is near ideal, although the trip to the nearest beach is slightly more than a short walk, most particularly if you are carrying equipment (ie. SUPs, etc.). It should be mentioned however that this is not unusual for the island, especially in the vicinity of the national park.
The interior of the house far exceeded our expectations. The beds were ridiculously comfortable and the air conditioning was ample. It was quite easy on the rainy/windy couple of days to laze around the living area. The island decor is a constant reminder of where you are why you have chosen to vacation here.
Only one small suggestion regarding waste management. We made an effort to comply with the island's recycling and garbage separation policies, but we couldn't figure out the expectation with regard to cardboard and glass, etc., so we ended up accumulating these in a corner of the kitchen. This was only a minor inconvenience, however a dedicated bin around the side of the house or some instruction would have made a difference.
We will have reason to return to the island, and we will definitely look to return to this house. Thanks!
The owners of Cavendish Vacation Cottage sincerely thank Joe and Jeni for their kind, comprehensive review and are pleased they had such a pleasant stay.
Moving forward, the owners have plans to leave guests detailed information as to how to manage recycling, which, incidentally, is handled differently in rural PEI than in many other provinces.
Amazing property & a fabulous relaxing experience!
We rented this property for several months this past year and it was perfect for our family of 4! It had all of the ammenities that a family could ever need from an outdoor shower to get rid of the sand after the beach, to super comfortable beds (even the pull out couch is comfy!) to an awesome gournet kitchen to cook in and entertain. A spacious deck to lounge and relax. You can even look out the kitchen window and see the ocean when doing the dishes! You are super close to the National park & beach with walking, cycling trails and lots of golf courses near by. It was truly a very relaxing experience overall and would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in travelling to Cavendish or needing to stay in Charlottetown for work purposes for that matter. It's only about a 35 minute drive to pure heaven and a stress-free place to chillax:) We live out of province but we are renting it again this fall because we will be returning for several months again.
Awesome for Biking
We loved the nearby paved trails to ride bikes along the Gulf of St. Lawrence and to Cavendish Beach. The cottage was awesome with all amenities. Luxurious and very inviting, this cottage was right out of a magazine.
We had a wonderful week enjoying this Cavendish PEI property. We comfortably slept 4 adults and 2 teenagers in this house and enjoyed the luxury of this property. The entire house was designed for relaxation and enjoyment, from the gourmet kitchen to the beautiful wrap around deck. A big hit was the outdoor shower after a day at the beach. The cottage is conveniently located close to all that Cavendish has to offer and is an excellent start point for many bike rides for the entire family. Excellent rounds of golf were enjoyed at the many nearby golf courses which were reasonably priced and challenging. There really was something for everyone who ranged from 13 to 58 years in age to be found on our vacation property.
