Do you love to surf, golf or just love relaxing on a breathtaking sandy beach? Playa Avellanas is located 20 minutes away from Tamarindo, with a town centre with an amazing nightlife, supermarkets, numerous restaurants etc. Rated the 3rd nicest beach in Central America this year and has the best surf in all Costa Rica, this is the place to be. Our brand new custom built, 3 bedroom rancher is just minutes away from the beach, and has every amenity to relax in peace and quiet. Our property has a new pool and a rancho with bbq pit. The beach also is a renowned surfing area, which ranges from beginner to advanced, with famous breaks such as 'Little Hawaii' for the more experienced surfer. We are also located right beside Hacienda Pinilla Resort which has a world class 18 hole Golf Course designed by Mie Young and an amazing 5 star Beach Club. Meanwhile you are still so close to the fantastic shopping and nightlife of Tamarindo and other neighboring towns that you can come and go as you please! Come and be a part of our little slice of paradise.
We are the second house in what will be a 6 house community. Buying opportunities still available! Look for Beach Walk on Facebook for more information. We went down for a vacation and purchased, and haven't regretted it since! The area is rural and quiet with the exception of the local Howler monkeys and sounds of waves from the ocean close by. Just 20 minutes away from the nightlife of Tamarindo, Playa Avellanas has something for everyone!
Two friends and I stayed at this location for two days in November, 2016. The property is clean and you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. We loved the ceiling fans and large shower. The biggest challenges we had were (1) finding the place, but once you turn onto the entrance road, continue for about a block and then veer left another 200 feet to the gated entrance and (2) the onsite caretaker does not speak English -- but we were still able to understand each other when we had questions. The beds and furniture are comfortable. The nearby goats were entertaining. So if you want to be near Playa Avellana, this is a great choice.
First of all, let me start by saying that the house is beautiful. The design is everything I'd go for if I was building my own beach house. That said, what disappointed me with the rental wasn't the house itself, but the state of the interior. This is my 3rd time to Costa Rica and my 12th house rental. It was the first time I was ever charged a cleaning fee, so I expected the house to be spotless upon arrival. It wasn't. I mean the bedsheets and towels were clean enough, but the appliances were not (old coffee in the coffee machine, the blender's exterior was filthy, the inside of the fridge doors were brown, all utensils had to be rewashed). Not only that but the cooking utensils and pots and pans were unusable (think Teflon way past the point of recognition). It wasn't only unappealing, it was downright dangerous. Not to mention the spatulas were half melted reminders of what they should be. There was no wine glasses at all to be found, cracked coffee mugs, I mean the list could go on and on. We bought a new frying pan and 2 wine glasses in order to be able to cook at all in the house and borrowed the rest off the neighbours next door (we left those at the house so the next reviewers might have a better kitchen experience than we did). The AC was unable to keep the temperature down (during the day, the bedroom went down to 28 degrees celcius even with the AC on at 18 degrees as per our portable thermostat), it was HOT in the house. At night, we were able to cool down as the AC was able to keep up with the sun out, but don't expect a cool room (think 24-25 degrees). The sofas in the living room are comfy enough, but really could use a good cleaning as well (the headrests and armrests were brown instead of light grey).
As for the rest, I mean the setting is lovely and the caretaker as well. The beach of Avellanas is one of the nicest around. We never did find the walking path to the beach (it had rained really hard the first day there so it could be due to that) so we took the car to the beach... The pool is really, really tiny, so we didn't use it much. The kids had a blast catching crabs.
All in all, pick this place if you tend to eat out often and don't really need the kitchen.
We had a wonderful time at Beachwalk Casa 2. The house had everything we needed, it was clean and in excellent condition. The water out of the faucets contains salt water, but the owner provided bottled water which was really nice. It was great to relax in the pool when we were not on the beach. We felt very safe in the house with the gate and the property manager on site.
We decided to drive to the beach each day, a nice 5 minute drive and parked at Lola's parking lot. The waves were a blast to play in and the sunsets were beautiful, we even saw a newly married couple being photographed in the sunset. We liked this beach much better than Tamarindo because of the waves. We ate at Lola's several times, their food was a little higher priced than we anticipated but it was very good. Their smoothies were the best that we had anywhere in Costa Rica (and we drank A LOT of smoothies)!
The dirt road from Tamarindo to the property can be rather bumpy - depending on when it was last grated. We were lucky and it was grated during our stay. You might just need to add extra time for travel. We experienced a lot worse roads up near the mountains.
We went grocery shopping at the Supermercado in Tamarindo for our larger needs (they also have an ATM machine - this is the closest one). We went snuba diving at SNUBA Costa Rica north of Playa Tamarindo, which was a must do activity.
We were surprised at the lack of mosquitoes in Costa Rica and we were there during the beginning of the rainy season. Everyone we met during our stay in Costa Rica was very friendly! We will definitely return!
Wonderful stay! Very clean, all amenities functioned correctly. Property manager was polite and helpful. Walk to the beach enjoying nature.
Beachwalk Casita 2 is a part of a modern, newly built 4-plex of casitas located in the jungle away from the main Coastal Road, which will keep any noise and dust away. The property is well maintained, gated, and safe with great landscaping which gives it a resort feel. The beach itself is about a 10-20 minute walk depending the path you take(the closest route puts you right at the river mouth which requires several wet crossings,, but it also puts you out at one of the better surf spots in the area) I had no problem with the beach distance and walk through the jungle, as i have been traveling for surf trips for years, and i like the walk to the ocean as a good warm-up adventure. Keep that in mind however if you need to bring stuff to beach such as towels and chairs and coolers, you should park(2 minute drive) at Las Cabinas Olas or Lola's and walk on the paths. The Casita itself is an open air design with large glass doors in the living room, that open up to the pool area. 2 bedrooms flank the common area and are air conditioned(living room/kitchen are not which can get a little warm. All modern appliances are provided which is great if you want to cook your own meals(AutoMercado Grocery is located 20 minutes away in Tamarindo) Overall a great place to visit, located next to some of the better surf breaks in Guanacaste. For sure going to come back!
Shauna was quick and easy to work with. We had a misunderstanding of the location (thought it was right on the beach) based on a google link, but she kindly let us adjust our days or offered a partial refund when we discovered that it was in the woods. The 10 min walking trail would have been too much for mom (who is 83), but we could have been OK with it. The casita is different than a hotel or house but modern and clean with amenities. The open air bi-folding windows from the dining/tv area towards the pool was really nice - when it was cool enough outside. We used the AC's in the bedrooms since it did get a bit warm. Beds were comfy. Lola's down the road was good food and the beach was beautiful. It is down an unmaintained dirt road, which is common in C.R. It is Very Private - perfect to get away from people.
We stayed in early December and it was green out, not many bugs and not crowded.
