Clean Modern 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom House with Superb Ocean And Mountain Views
About Norma Jones
We're Canadians transplanted from England, who fell in love with the country and the people of Costa Rica. We are now retired and split our time between Ontario and Costa Rica.
Norma Jones purchased this House in 2014
Why Norma Jones chose Puerto Carrillo
We love this area because it is casual and low key. This is not a village with huge resorts, casinos or night clubs, but small restaurants and bars providing friendly service and entertainment. Beachwear, cool casual clothing and flip flops are all you will need. Our house is a modern, open home with clean lines and no clutter.
What makes this House unique
Open air living with all the modern conveniences. The house is not overlooked or have immediate neighbours, so there is privacy if you want it, but you are close to beaches, restaurants and nightlife..
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
Truly the best view in Carrillo!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe all of Costa Rica!
The view, the house, the town of Samara, the beaches, everything was fabulous! We stayed at this property for 12 days during the holidays and it was amazing! The house had everything we needed and more. We spent many days just hanging at the house in the fabulous pool and the evenings cooking, movies and playing cards. The air conditioned bedrooms were awesome and I have to say, the beds were more comfortable than our beds back home. We were literally outside all day but there was always shade somewhere in the house and almost always a breeze. The pool was always the perfect temp. We were reminded everyday that we were living in the jungle. A white faced monkey visited us the day we arrived and the day before we left. A troop of about 12 howler monkeys were in the trees just to the right of the house for a good portion of 1 day. They were loud but very entertaining to watch. We also had a couple of anteater-looking animals that Norma mentions. It is similar to the American raccoon (we called them trash pandas) and why the refrigerator has to be tied up. They never came up to the house when we were home but they clearly were on the patio at least twice when we were gone. We tried to be done cooking by dark because as soon as the lights went on, the bugs came out. They never bothered us and there wasn't anything that stung or bit so I'm sure we could have sat out there all night. No satellite/cable tv and the internet/wifi was very poor. It wasn't a problem for us but if anyone wants to even check email, very spotty. We went to Frank's in Samara to watch football one day and they gave us their wifi so we could just get caught up. That was even a bit spotty but gave us enough time to get through email. Carrillo beach is a beautiful tree lined beach, however, during the holidays while we were there it was packed full of people starting already about 10 am. January 2nd it completely cleared out! So, unfortunately, we only got to Carrillo beach once. We did an ATV tour and ziplining which was amazing! Besides the house, ziplining was the highlight. The town of Samara has everything you could want. Most places do take credit cards like grocery stores, tours, some restaurants but not all. Get colones (cash) at the airport before coming to Samara. When we were in town, the bank line was always 8-10 people deep waiting to get money. The manager, Mellissa, was super. And the owner, Norma, was always very responsive before our trip.
I’m so happy to hear you had such a fabulous time in Samara and at the house, despite not getting to the beach much. Playa Carrillo is very popular with Tico families during Christmas, Easter and school holidays, but the rest of the year there’s lots of room. I never tire of watching the monkeys - such acrobats! The bug situation at night is very dependent on the natural cycle of life and weather. Right now (late January) we have no bugs at all at night, not even moths, but I know the cicadas will be arriving soon - along with their very loud noise. It’s all part of the wonder and beauty of Costa Rica. I’m not sure what was going on with the internet as we generally don’t have any problems with email, but as it’s the high season I assume there’s more demand than capacity. We will be visiting the ICE office this week to try and get a better plan.
Thank you for choosing to stay at Casa Bella, we appreciate the care you took of our house and the time you took to write the review.
piece of paradise
We truly enjoyed Casa Bella!!
The description about having the best view in Carillo is on the spot!!
The house was beautiful, accommodations were great and the open living space was amazing. We loved having monkeys and mozotes as neighbors. Make sure you read the Do's and Dont's to avoid any potential issues with the "permanent" residents of Casa Bella.
We can't wait to go back!!
What a dream! This home is amazing! The second we opened the door to this home we immediately knew we made the best choice. It is impossible to take a photograph that truly represents the beautiful view of this home. The home has everything you will need for your stay. The air conditioned bedrooms were great to come home to in the evenings and my son really enjoyed eating breakfast next to the monkeys. The owner was fantastic to work with and communicated thoroughly and quickly. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Norma for your hospitality!!
Outdoor lovers, Casa Bella is for you!
When you open the front door to enter Casa Bella you will see a beautiful unobstructed view of the mountains, valleys and ocean. The open air kitchen, dinning and living space are a fantastic way to enjoy the views.
In the mornings while having breakfast we would watch the monkeys eating and swinging through the trees right next to the house. After a day on the hot beach we'd come back and relax in the pool before dinner.
Most nights with the lights off and a few candles we would have drinks and watch the best lightning storms pass over the mountains.
The bedrooms were air conditioned and the beds were extremely comfortable. We woke each morning able to watch the sun come up over the mountains from bed.
If you like the outdoors and don't mind a few flying critters, this place is for you.
Perfect Vacation Home
This home was perfect for our group of three couples. The pool and open air living areas were awesome. The home was very well appointed, modern, but with a casual feeling that made it nice to come home to. Relaxing in the pool, listening to tunes on the Bose system made for a fun stay. We saw a troop of howler monkeys up-close from the patio and that was amazing. The owners and property manager on site were all very easy to work with. The only small thing I would note is that the open air kitchen and living room had a lot of flying visitors (moths and bugs) at night so it made it tough to enjoy the evenings outside, but other than that, this is a perfect vacation spot and we would love to stay there again. The road up is steep and, as we were there during the rainy season, a 4x4 is recommended.
We didn't want to leave!
Sleeps 6 people comfortably. Everything you need is available - this place has all the amenities of home and is very clean. Enjoyed staying in a place that was well sealed - no creepy crawlers found indoors. There is a grocery store, fruit stands, gift shops, dining, and fish market within a 15 minute drive (town of Samara). Several beaches within 15 minutes drive and dozens of options within an hour drive. Enjoy waking up to the sunrise and listening to parakeets, monkeys and watch the lemurs from the deck. In January, the pool was an easy 80F even with the sun down.
Easy drive from the airport (2 hours). 4x4 recommended to get around.
We recommend Palo Verde crocodile tour (1.5 hour drive), Nosara surf town on the coast (less than 1 hour drive), renting ATV's (15 minutes away in Samara).
Rent a vehicle, tour during the day and try to return by sunset (driving). We enjoyed making meals and relaxing at the house as much as we enjoyed touring around!
Playa Carrillo is a 2.5 km stretch of palm tree lined beach, perfect for quiet relaxation and swimming in the reef-protected ocean. It is rated as one of the best beaches in Costa Rica. There are restaurants in Puerto Carrillo about 500 metres from the east end of the beach. Samara, 7 km west of Playa Carrillo, is a bustling village providing all modern amenities such as ATMs, internet cafés, shops, grocery stores, doctor, dentist, pharmacies, bakeries and restaurants. The beachside restaurants in Samara are the perfect place to while away an afternoon or evening swaying in a hammock and enjoying your favourite cold drink. There is usually music and casual entertainment in the evenings, especially during the high season, but it will be quieter out of season.
The Natural Centre in Samara has fitness and dance classes, as well as a basic gym. There is also an organic cafe and shop. Of course Costa Rica is famous for its ecotourism and all kinds of tours can be arranged for activities both in the area and further afield, such as turtle or bird watching, river or ocean kayaking, in-shore or deep sea fishing.
There are surf schools in Samara where you can rent equipment and take lessons.
The natural wildlife is all around, from the noisy howler monkeys to the chattering parakeets. From our house you will see butterflies, many different kinds of birds (including hummingbirds), iguanas, and occasionally monkeys.
