About Hudson and Jane Webb

We live in a metropolican area and retreat to our country home to escaped the the hassle and bustle of city life. As we crest the mountain ridges on the way, our worries and cares seem to disappear and a deep sense of relaxation floods over us. As a former military family we kid each other by saying, we keep the Civil War alive. One of us grew up on a northern farm and the other in a southern city. It just goes to show, opposites do attract. We have two grown sons, dubbed - the sons of thunder. We have traveled much and still seek to discover and try something knew, which we continue to find in WV.

Hudson and Jane Webb purchased this house in 2011

Why Hudson and Jane Webb chose West Virginia

One day while looking at property in WV we came across an estate auction sign at a gas station. After meeting with the autioneer, walking the property line and looking over the various out buildings, we fell in love with the possibilities this property held. A few weeks later we stood on the steps of the county court house and bid on the property. To our delight, we won. A year later we broke ground to build the house and this past year refurbished the largest shed. Some day we hope to retire in WV. Until then, we invite you to enjoy our home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are delight that you had a great time at our place in WV. It is a wonderful place to unwind and relax. I love to sit on the deck and watch the hawks soar and the clouds float by. I would like to let you know that we now have WIFI for internet browsing and checking emails - installed yesterday. There is a AT&T Go-phone at the house which is available for use by guests. We are sorry you missed it. Service can be spotting depending on where you are in the house. Some folks have said their Verizon phones have worked at the house as well. Thank you for your business and we do hope you will return soon.

It is a great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Jane's home was perfect for a long weekend getaway with friends. The bedroom setup worked really well for our group – allowing separate spaces for me and my husband, as well as our friends with two small children. Everything about the space felt new, bright and cozy. Linens and towels were plentiful, and the beds were just like home. It was a great getaway from the our busy day-to-day lives in Washington, DC. There are several national parks that offer hiking and other recreation activities – usually within 1-2 hours' drive. I especially enjoyed a visit to the nearby outdoor pool at Lost River State Park (about 30 minutes away). I highly recommend Jane's home to anyone looking to enjoy modern comforts amid a truly scenic West Virginia landscape.

Peace & Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Thank you! possibly the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. The house is great. The house is well appointed yet simple so that you get a relaxed feeling as soon as you walk in the door. The surrounding area is quiet and tranquil and the woods and hills seem endless. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck or the in sun room, playing in the woods, the odd visit to nearby lost river state park and cooking smores on the camp fire. Our goal was to have a low key vacation where we could unwind as a family and this house gave us this opportunity 100%. Thank you.

Secluded and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We saw LOTS of deer on the drive in. The house was decorated nice and we were comfortable. New renters should note that the sign for the cabin is not in front of the driveway, it's further down and is a gravel drive. We were unsure so we took a chance and drove on up that way to see. The house cannot be seen from the road. Also we went in very hot weather and it was about 80 inside. You have to turn it on and wait. Same with the water. Other than these small issues that renters should be aware of we had a nice stay. Loved all the windows. There were deer right in the yard when we got there. Beds were comfortable and clean.

GREAT PLACE!

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful property all by itself, 100% privacy. Everything updated and works great.

Only one queen bed, so not great for couples.

There is NO WIFI AND NO CELL SERVICE, so get the lady of the land before you get there.

LONG dirt road unmarked made it difficult to find, but once we got there we didn't want to leave!!

Awesome place and had a great time!!
