The Compass Rose will guide you to a lifetime of unforgettable Corolla memories, from sound side excursions to seaside treasure hunting. Located at the southernmost point of Monteray Shores, you can watch the sunrise from the second and third floor decks or enjoy sound-side sunsets while you prepare an evening meal. Just 4 straight blocks to public beach access: take Monteray Drive down Dolphin Street, past Corolla Fire and Rescue to the lifeguarded beaches of Whalehead. Prefer to shop ‘til you drop? Monteray Plaza and Timbuk II are close at hand. While your ‘tweens and teens might just stay submerged in the private pool or lodge themselves in front of the X-box, it’s an easy walk to go-karts, bumper cars, and mini-golf without crossing Route 12. Family outings to the movie theatre, arcade, surf shops, and ice-cream stand have been known to occur without protest. While you are out, take in some of the best dining on the Outer Banks. When the day is done and it is time to wind down, grab a best seller from the bookshelves and curl up in a chair, watch TV or a DVD from bed, take a technology break with included Wi-Fi access, or soak in the hot tub and keep an eye on the stars. They are brighter on the Banks.
The Compass Rose is at the terminal point of the Corolla bike path and shares Monteray Shores amenities including private sound-side launch access, two community piers for fishing or crabbing, swimming, tennis, basketball and a playground. You can rent kayaks or bikes, or stroll the walking trails. The fully equipped fitness center can help you maintain your fitness routine. We had 11 family members at this cottage. The Compass Rose was wonderful to get that many members together with comfortable accommodations. We loved everything about it, including the extra big table, the smaller table for kids, the swimming pool and hot tub, the gaming room, and the daily trips to the ocean. Our rooms were out of our dreams. Everything was perfect.
This is our second time staying at The Compass Rose and this year was better than the first. We loved the updates and decoration changes. As before our family was able to sit back, relax and enjoy quality time with one another in a comfortable fully accommodating setting. The pool was glorious, we enjoyed daily walks and bike rides to the beach and the local stores. The convenient location to everything made the trip even better. The family enjoyed the clubhouse and pier on the sound side for family pictures. Our only complaint would be the treatment we received from an older Monterey Shores staff person, we were often made to feel like we didn't belong and had to repeatedly verify we were staying in Monterey Shores even with the wristbands.
To avoid the hassle we just used our private pool and limited our visits to the pier.
