Juniper Ledge - the Perfect Place for Fall Foliage
Our group of 3 truly enjoyed our first trip to coastal Maine and our time at Juniper Ledge in October 2015. The drive to, from, and all around the Cape Rosier peninsula where Juniper Ledge is located was enhanced by spectacular fall foliage. The Juniper Ledge cottage provides jaw-dropping views of the pristine Penobscot Bay from almost every room. We spent our time at Juniper Ledge relaxing and reading in the open living room and cooking gourmet meals in the well-equipped chef's kitchen. The two guest rooms are the perfect size for a short or long stay and the entire cottage is smartly designed with local maritime touches. Outside, we took short, easy walks on Harborside Road to explore Cape Rosier. The "backyard" at Juniper Ledge provides several unique landscapes to experience from the rocky outcropping closest to the cottage, through a small pine forest, across a soft grass meadow, and sturdy wooden steps down to the craggy shore line. At the bay, depending on tides, you can collect beautiful shells and admire the blue waters of the Penobscot. Further afield, our group drove and explored the villages of Stonington and Castine, and out to Mount Desert Island for a must-see visit to Acadia National Park, including Jordan Pond, Cadillac Mountain, and the harborside town of Bar Harbor. On your way home, don't forget to pick up fresh lobster right out of the water at the nearby Hiram Blake Camp. Juniper Ledge earned our highest recommendation as the place to stay and explore one of the most scenic parts of Maine.
Your terrific review is most appreciated, thanks! We really strive to make Juniper Ledge comfortable and it sounds as if you really took advantage of all that the area has to offer, as well as the cottage itself, which is, as you now know, the perfect place to unwind and relax after outings and excursions.
Post-Labor Day and in the late summer / early fall, the weather is beautiful and the popular places like Acadia are far less crowded. We hope you return!
We just returned from Juniper Ledge and oh, what magical place! The cottage is just beautiful...the furnishings, fabulous kitchen, comfy beds and that wonderful porch with extraordinary sunsets! This area is a favorite vacation spot of ours in summer, but there's something very special about Autumn on Cape Rosier...the quiet, the crisp light and vivid blue bay...and what a treat to return to that beautiful, comfortable cottage. We put our kayaks in at (nearby) Bakeman Beach and saw porpoise, seals, Eagles, and loons. Picked up lobsters from Paul Venno at Hiram Blake Camp (fresh off the boat!). Thank you. We can't wait to return!
Thank you for your wonderful words and yes, the early autumn is a great time to experience glorious days and all of the best that coastal Maine provides.
We added radiant floor heating to extend the season in the cottage and with the porch doors closed, the place is very comfortable on a chilly night.
Recently, the power went out on Cape Rosier but our generator kicked into action and the renters were not inconvenienced in the least!
Perfect in every way!
This was a perfect getaway. .. and I do mean "away" Well appointed. Immaculate. Scenery beyond compare. And quite an adventure for two ladies of a certain age! We will be back.
So glad you enjoyed yourselves! We can take credit for everything at the cottage except the view - which is really spectacular. I'll be sure to let our housekeeper know that you found the place to be immaculate; she does do a great job.
This well appointed cottage was perfect for our family vacation. Large wrap around screened in porch overlooking the bay provided scenic views of the water and plenty of room for dining, games and relaxation. Modern kitchen had every amenity needed. Very clean and well maintained. We definitely plan to visit again.
Thanks for your wonderful review and we're so glad you enjoyed this special place! As cooks, we outfitted the kitchen so that our guests would be able to take advantage of the bounty of the area and prepare terrific meals easily with the amazing, local ingredients.
I stayed at Juniper Ledge for 3 nights with my sisters for a girls weekend getaway and we loved it! Not only was the view spectacular but the home is wonderfully decorated and fully loaded. Everything we needed we found easily in the logical place. We cooked and mainly lounged very comfortably around. When we did venture out we were able to do so with the helpful info that was provided for us by the house. I plan to return in the spring with my husband!
Juniper Ledge is located in one of the most scenic spots in coastal Maine. The town of Harborside (part of Brooksville) on Cape Rosier is part of the Blue Hill peninsula. The freshest lobsters are locally available and organic produce is a healthy walk or a short drive away from The Four Seasons Farm. Brooksville has a charming general store with a weekly farmer's market and a small restaurant. Nearby, Holbrook Island Sanctuary has a beautiful beach and a protected cove for kayaking and swimming. There are two town landings for boating. The largest nearby town of Blue Hill boasts an excellent book store, many restaurants and boutiques and a wonderful hospital as well as a great veterinary clinic. An approximate one hour drive toward Mt. Desert Isle and Acadia National Park leads through the county seat, Ellsworth, with many shops and restaurants. At day's end, the spacious wrap-around screened porch provides the spectacle of glorious sunsets and coastal breezes.
