Hello all VRBO friends!
My name is Caitlin, and my husband Ben and I would love to tell you about our home at Sand Dollar Lane. We hope you’ll come and visit!
Sand Dollar Lane is located in the famous, picturesque town of Kennebunkport, Maine. Kennebunkport features some of the best beaches, scenery, and quintessential small town living that New England has to offer.
Sand Dollar Lane is set back from the road in a beautiful and private wooded setting. However, we are close to it all! Only 2 miles away from where it all happens – Dock Square!! This is where you’ll find most of your shopping, dining, site seeing, and yes, lobster rolls! Sidewalks the majority of the way, make going to Dock Square a pleasant walk or bike ride.
George Bush Sr. and his family spend their summers in Kennebunkport, for obvious reasons. If you want to go see the scenes, his house is less than 4 miles away. We recommend you stop by at least once to see his compound along with the breathtaking views all along Ocean Ave!
Beaches? Yes, please!! You are centrally located between Kennebunk’s Gooch’s Beach (3.4 miles) and Goose Rocks Beach (5.1 miles), so you have options depending on what you’re looking for in a beach. Remember your sun tan lotion!
Ok, back to the house…..as you may never want to leave! Sand Dollar Lane is a custom, newly built, cape style home, with an open layout and high end finishes. The first floor has two living areas. One with a 52” flat screen TV and a large sectional sofa, perfect for watching a movie, or lounging after a long day. All of the TV’s feature a robust channel lineup, including all the fun movie channels. The other living area is a bright sunroom layout with stylish furnishings, a small wall mounted TV, and a perfect setup for gathering together. The kitchen is full of stainless steel appliances, marble countertops, and all the necessities to prepare anything from a small snack to a large feast! You can feast in the dining room that seats six, or spill over into the eat-in, island bar. In the kitchen and dining room, we have provided all types of serving dishes, platters, drink dispensers, and glass pitchers so you can cook and entertain to your stomach’s content! There is also an office on the first floor, where you can shut the door and get any real-world work done (which hopefully, is none!). The office also has a nice day bed for those mid-day naps or additional overnight guests.
Heading up the two story stairwell, you will find a large laundry room with plenty of room to organize, fold, and wash all your bathing suits and beachwear. There are three bedrooms upstairs. The master suite is light and airy with a custom built domed ceiling, cedar closet, comfy king sized bed, and a marble en suite bathroom with a tub / shower combo. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed. The third contains two twin beds that can be pushed together to form a king if that is more appropriate for your use. These two bedrooms share a large full bath across the hallway. All three bedrooms are equipped with wall mounted flat screen TV’s (as you can see, my husband likes his flat screens!) The entire upstairs has a sunny layout that gives you plenty of natural light and views of the wooded surroundings.
Off the dining room downstairs, through the sliding glass doors, there is a sizeable stone patio that is perfect for enjoying the outdoors. We have an assortment of patio furniture, two fire pits (gas or wood-burning), and a weber gas grill for all of your BBQ’ing pleasures. Grill tools and, yes, s’more skewers are included!
There is a large barn / garage where you are welcome to store two cars. We have provided two bicycles and countless games and sporting equipment.
My husband and I love Kennebunkport. We have truly done everything possible to make sure you enjoy it as much as we do. Whether it’s for a family vacation, wedding, girls’ trip, or just a scenic getaway, we look forward to seeing you in Kennebunkport at Sand Dollar Lane!
-Caitlin and Benjamin Bangs
Caitlin and Ben met it Fort Lauderdale, FL where they currently live most of the year. They were married in Cape Porpoise, Maine in 2012. Ben grew up in Kennebunk Beach so they decided to purchase a home here. Coming back several times a year to visit friends and family, they can tell you all the fun and interesting places to go. Kennebunkport is a very special place to them and they want their guests to always leave happy and relaxed.
Caitlin Bangs purchased this house in 2012

Beautiful vacation home, kept well, clean and missing nothing. Our family of four had plenty room to have our own space. Plenty of towels, linens, stocked kitchen and comfy seating throughout. The owners and property manager had great communication and we really did not need to contact them for much...which was nice. The binder they have in the kitchen is great full of local recommendations for just about anything...restuarants, entertainment, shopping & groceries. Perfectly located in the coastal Maine area...off the main tourist path in Kennebunkport to stay out of traffic but still within a mile of the ocean. Nice outdoor area to enjoy a fire pit at night and we used the grill a couple times to cook some of the local fresh catch. We can't stop thinking about our trip...even our teenage boys just wanted a couple days to hang out at the house because they were so comfortable "just chillin' " as they would say. We have already passed off the contact info to some of our friends here in Indiana as there was a lot of interest for people that usually on go south to the gulf or east to the mountains. We will likely return to coastal Maine again in the future for vacation and recommend this property to anyone. We kept our dogs at home but this is a pet friendly home...there are even dog toys.
We were pleased to arrive to a clean well stocked home. The weather was great the first few days and gradually got windy and cold so we watched television on a beautiful flat screen. We had all we needed to let the stress disappear. This property is beautiful, comfortable and close to town. We thank you for sharing your home with us and hope to return, thank you.
First and foremost, the owners are a pleasure to work with and we thank them for sharing their lovely home. We are a family of four who rented for one week in 2014 and had such a good time that we returned and just completed two weeks in 2015.
The house is accurately represented in the pictures/descriptions. For us, it is the perfect blend of amenities and location. The house itself is spacious with an open floor plan that allows easy movement and communication between rooms. The kitchen is well stocked where we prepared many meals (One of our party has a shellfish allergy so it is not always as simple for us as grabbing a lobster roll). All three bedrooms come with a window unit to allow the occupant to control temperature as desired. Caitlin's decorating style creates a warm and cozy seaside retreat. The large yard is perfect for outdoor family time too.
The location is simply perfect. With close proximately to Dock Square (Kennebunkport), you are never far from bars, restaurants and lobster rolls. Also, a quick 10 minute drive to Goose Rocks Beach (North) or Parsons Beach (South) and many other beaches in between will have you on the water in no time. We have ventured with ease for day trips to Freeport and Portland to the North and Wells and Ogonquit to the South. The shopping in Kennebunkport and the surrounding towns is fun for the whole family.
We offer our personal view of our favorite food in the area keeping in mind that there are many wonderful options spanning from organic farm stands to creative sit down dinners and everything in between.
Cocktails – Tia’s
Lobster Rolls – Allison’s, Uncle Benny’s Food Truck, Cape Porpoise Kitchen, Clam Shack
Dinner – Village Tavern (Kennebunk – Off the beaten tourist path)
Expensive Dinner – Earth at Hidden Pond (Pricey, creative food in a tranquil environment)
Sandwiches – Bennett’s (Kennebunk) and Cape Porpoise Kitchen
Pizza – Owens Farm House
We fully intend to return in 2016.
All I can say is I'm in LOVE!.. what a great great spot, a gorgeous, comfortable, airy space that's close enough to town to drive in in less than 5 minutes (or bike in 10 or less).. but nestled in it's own peaceful spot.. We were there for 2 wks and all really loved being there and it was the perfect place to really relax and have a true vacation.. the house itself is gorgeous and from the photos I was a tiny bit worried that possibly it would be too "Nice" for us.. not the case At All... while it IS so so beautiful, with lovely furniture etc, it is extremely livable, with enough to spread out and not feel as though we're stumbling on top of one another, we really felt settled in very quickly.. I am already planning on staying twice as long next summer and can hardly wait.. :D Thank YOU!!
This is a fantastic home in Kennebunkport. It exceeded all of our expectations. We had 5 people staying and there was plenty of room. The home is beautiful and well appointed. It is well stocked, making it very easy to "settle in.". For us it was in the perfect location. We would highly recommend it and would book it again without hesitation.
Our stay in Kennebunkport was wonderful! The owners of the home were very easy to work with and delivered on a beautiful home. The overall stay can be broken down into Pros and Cons.
Pictures are accurate representation of the home! It was exactly as it appears.
Impeccable design/decor...lovely ambiance
Very private...virtually no neighbors to speak of
House was very clean
Decent kitchen amenities
Bikes/lawn games/a collection of DVDs/Great cookbooks
A very short distance to downtown shops
Great launching point for day trips to Portland/Freeport/Kittery, etc.
Cons (if we had to get picky):
Master mattress was very soft...back ache all week
Had to buy our own toliet paper (no extra rolls stocked)
No sugar for coffee
No coffee pot (there is a Keurig and a French press...but we had 5 people drinking coffee every morning, so it was a little inconvenient)
With all that being said, we would definitely stay here again...gracious owners, great house, great location, and a beautiful setting! We enjoyed cooking at the house a couple nights and sitting on the back patio enjoying the the autumn weather. Would definitely recommend trying out Old Vines, Hurricane, and Mornings in Paris if you eat out in Kennebunkport. And most definitely try Duckfat if you get to Portland! We ate there two days in a row! :)
Thank you, Caitlin and Ben, we hope to visit you again someday!
