About Kimberly & John
John and I have enjoying the challenge of getting our new business up and going. My family is from the hills of east TN and southern Kentucky. From the mountains of the coal mining communities and a one room cabin on the side of a mountain to the Atomic Energy city, My family has been in the area a long time and witnessed a lot of different eras. John is from a family ranch in Kansas and this year we will have been married 30 years. From the country life of home grown food, fresh milk and eggs, our families heritage has surely changed in the last two generations as it has in yours. In the busy-ness of life these days, it's so nice to step back and slow down. Reminisce and enjoy the more simple pleasures of friends, family, nature and wildlife. We thank our Father God for the many blessings we have and can take for granted everyday.

Wonderful, quiet mountain getaway
My husband and I had a lovely stay in July and August at this wonderful cabin. It is very well-equipped and spacious with two terrific balconies that look out into the woods. It is at the end of the community road (WARNING: see below) which makes it especially quiet. While there is not a door at the top of the stairs separating the upstairs and downstairs, the upstairs is very private and insulated from the noise below with its own bathroom. Kimberly went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed.
The cabin is about a 15 minute drive to restaurants and just a few minutes longer to Smoky Mountain National Park. We loved being on the quiet side of the park and had easy access to wonderful trails. We loved the town of Townsend, but WARNING: it's for all intents and purposes a dry town, so bring provisions if you're interested.
Just a couple of things kept us from giving it a full five stars.
1. THE ROAD TO THE CABIN -- We are very experienced with twisty mountain roads, but having to regularly travel this long (about a mile), very steep, narrow (a foot on each side of your car in places) concrete driveway with sharp turns through the community kept us from fully enjoying our experience. Our front-wheel drive Nissan Altima did a good job with the steepness, but as soon as the rain started, the tires were spinning. It was definitely a nail-biter every time we left the cabin. One trip out and back in was all we were up for.
2. NO SCREENS -- As the nights (and some of the days) cooled down, we would have loved to open up the house but there were no screens on the doors or windows to keep out mosquitoes, moths, etc. So when it got buggy, we had to shut the house up and stay inside with the a.c. which took away some of the enjoyment of being in the woods.
All in all, it was a lovely house and a very nice stay.
The cabin was so beautiful!
It was clean, so comfortable and very spacious.
The ride up to the cabin was a little scary the first couple of times I went up, but got use to it after that!
What a wonderful getaway
Thank you Kim and John
When booking our main priorities were having a beautiful view, a hot tub, and places to hike. Mountain memories was what we thought would be the best fit. Once we arrived we realized instantly that we’ve picked the right cabin. It was only two of us but it could easily sleep 4-6 people. The cabin was super clean & well decorated with amazing views. As for hiking we found a waterfall hike about 20 minutes away! We also went & visited the Tuckaleechee caverns! Lastly, if you decide to book (which you should!) you should eat at grandmothers kitchen!
Everything was clean and exactly as described. Hosts were so welcoming and friendly. Would absolutely stay again.
Had wonderful 3 night stay in Mtn Memories! The cabin was amazing and so very cozy and the view was fantastic! Kimberly and John were more than helpful and accommodating especially when the battery to our truck went dead! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back.
You're welcome! We're glad we could help :) thank you all for choosing Mountain Memories and we are so happy that you all enjoyed your Christmas stay!!
The cabin was clean, well furnished, and had a great view
Loved the cabin. It was clean, well furnished, and the hot tub was especially nice after a long day of hiking. We will definitely consider staying here again.
Townsend is a wonderful place to enjoy the great outdoors! Floating the Little Pigeon River, fishing, fly fishing (lessons even at the Outfitting Shop right here in Townsend), hiking day trails with maps and guides, sight seeing, photography, biking rentals and bike trails less than 5 minutes away, picnicking, shopping, zip lining, horseback riding. Art galleries, live music at the Pickin' Porch of the Dulcimer Shop and Danny Kay's, the Chocolate Bar for homemade candies of all kinds with a great coffee shop too. You might enjoy a step back into history and check out the museums of the Railroad, the Heritage Center and Cade's Cove. Townsend Visitors Center is full of suggestions, directions, and ideas to help you to determine just what and how you would like to spend your vacation!
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance is less than 10 minutes away! If you have the time there are things to do in Townsend, TN. If you want to take in more of the Smokies, a scenic drive down the Foothills Parkway or around to Gatlinburg by way of the mountain and by the river to see the amazing forest, gentle waterfalls, birds and wildlife. Be refreshed in the spring with flowering trees and shrubs of rhododendrons, dogwoods, red buds and wild flowers. Summer fishing, floating, picnicking or even swimming at the 'Y'! Fall brings brilliant colors, gorgeous sunsets and misty mornings in the mountains. And even winter holds its beauty in icy falls and snowy hillsides.
Depending on the time of year and time of day a trip to the busy side of the mountains to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are all filled with an almost limitless number of shows, sites, shopping and dining possibilities! Townsend is still my cabin stay of choice for quiet, quality, comfort and beauty, away from it all!
