About Kimberly & John

John and I have enjoying the challenge of getting our new business up and going. My family is from the hills of east TN and southern Kentucky. From the mountains of the coal mining communities and a one room cabin on the side of a mountain to the Atomic Energy city, My family has been in the area a long time and witnessed a lot of different eras. John is from a family ranch in Kansas and this year we will have been married 30 years. From the country life of home grown food, fresh milk and eggs, our families heritage has surely changed in the last two generations as it has in yours. In the busy-ness of life these days, it's so nice to step back and slow down. Reminisce and enjoy the more simple pleasures of friends, family, nature and wildlife. We thank our Father God for the many blessings we have and can take for granted everyday.

Kimberly & John purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Kimberly & John chose East

As you look at the information on this site about our cabin location, you will see the many varied choices our guests have here in the Townsend area that are within 10 minutes away. With very little hustle and bustle, there is something for most everyone. Our Mountain Memories cabin (and others available upon request) in the log home cabin resort offers a beautiful hide a way, a great starting place and even greater place to come home to from anywhere you would want to go in the mountains!

We hope to see you, here at Smoky Mountain Heritage Log the peaceful side of the Smokies! Only 5 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

What makes this cabin unique

We hope Mountain Memories will exceed your expectations and you will bask in the surroundings as we did when we decided to come to Townsend! We want to share it with you and many other guests that long for the mountains!

There are some cheap cabins around, but Mountain Memories is not a cheap stay. There are spendy campsites ($85 or more per night)or motel rooms that are not much less than our rates. Mountain Memories is an exhilarating vacation accommodation! Come and experience the difference high above the others!

Great cabin with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

I've been visiting the area for a while . Stayed in a few cabins all around and this one Exceeds my expectations .

The cabin was very comfortable with a wonderful view

Bed is very comfy which is a plus after a long hike day

The Wifi was impressive fast. Password is on the modem

I really like the localization. Very quiet place . You won't hear a road traffic from the cabin even in winter when the forest is less dense even though it is about 20 min from pigeon the drive is so pretty that we enjoyed every mile . Take your time to stop on the many craft stores you will find on the way, also at least once you want to take the road thru the park (longest way) but worth it ,You will see waterfalls such as the sinks along the way

Cade coves is right on the corner

Horseback riding / zip line is on the way to pigeon forge

The owners are very responsive and helpful Communication is great.

Thank you Kimbely & John for sharing your cabin

Tons of fun from the roof of the Smokies!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin has an incredible view. Nothing like waking up and having a cup of coffee on a call morning on the deck overlooking the smoky mountains. The cabin was very comfortable and well appointed. King bed on the main floor and queen in the loft. The bathroom is small. Beware, washing your legs in the shower is difficult because of how narrow it is. Regardless, we had a wonderful time and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. One thing to know about this cabin - it is WAY up on the hill and the drive up to it is very very steep. Surprisingly steep.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying Kurt. Ya its funny! Some folks come to the Smokies and want to visit the mountains and even have a great view but it doesn't come at the bottom of the hill. If you're from flat land, you have to expect a bit of adventure. This cabin is half way up and is in the medium range for a mountain cabin. Best Wishes, Kim

Everything I imagined a mountain cabin would be!

  • 5 of 5

This place is terrific! VERY clean and well equipped. It's so cute and looks/feels exactly how you'd picture a cabin in the Smoky Mountains. The owners are very responsive and accommodating. Every instruction they left, right down to the way to get the perfect shower temperature, was spot-on.

Highly recommend it!

Fantastic getaway with views of the mountains that are wonderful as well!

  • 5 of 5

Mountain Memories was a wonderful getaway experience. The cabin is welcoming and very well equipped for a peaceful and relaxing stay. I enjoyed sitting on the deck and taking in the fabulous view of the Great Smoky Mountains! I loved my 3 day stay! Everything in the cabin was perfect from a comfortable bed, jacuzzi to the decor of the cabin! The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is less than 10min away! Kimberly and John had everything ready and were so helpful with the few questions that arose! I hope to be back for another visit soon! Mountain Memories is exactly what this Texas public school teacher needed to help recharge for a new school year!

Townsend is a wonderful place to enjoy the great outdoors! Floating the Little Pigeon River, fishing, fly fishing (lessons even at the Outfitting Shop right here in Townsend), hiking day trails with maps and guides, sight seeing, photography, biking rentals and bike trails less than 5 minutes away, picnicking, shopping, zip lining, horseback riding. Art galleries, live music at the Pickin' Porch of the Dulcimer Shop and Danny Kay's, the Chocolate Bar for homemade candies of all kinds with a great coffee shop too. You might enjoy a step back into history and check out the museums of the Railroad, the Heritage Center and Cade's Cove. Townsend Visitors Center is full of suggestions, directions, and ideas to help you to determine just what and how you would like to spend your vacation!

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance is less than 10 minutes away! If you have the time there are things to do in Townsend, TN. If you want to take in more of the Smokies, a scenic drive down the Foothills Parkway or around to Gatlinburg by way of the mountain and by the river to see the amazing forest, gentle waterfalls, birds and wildlife. Be refreshed in the spring with flowering trees and shrubs of rhododendrons, dogwoods, red buds and wild flowers. Summer fishing, floating, picnicking or even swimming at the 'Y'! Fall brings brilliant colors, gorgeous sunsets and misty mornings in the mountains. And even winter holds its beauty in icy falls and snowy hillsides.

Depending on the time of year and time of day a trip to the busy side of the mountains to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are all filled with an almost limitless number of shows, sites, shopping and dining possibilities! Townsend is still my cabin stay of choice for quiet, quality, comfort and beauty, away from it all!
