Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our week spent in Meta. The apartment is nicely situated with sweeping views over the Bay of Naples from the delightfully picturesque garden terrace. Carlo is the consummate host. After a warm reception from him and his parents he proceeded to show us around Meta, pointing out some of the local amenities and generally making us feel at home throughout our stay. Never intrusive, he was usually on hand to give help and assistance when needed and was great company for a chat or two. The apartment is of a good size, clean, well maintained and has some quirky design features which add to the charm of the place. The station is about 15 minutes stroll away and from there, Sorrento, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples are all within easy reach. Meta can be a little sleepy at times but for us it provided the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of the more touristy Sorrento. Beaches, restaurants, a cash point and a well stocked supermarket are all just 5 mins walk away. We would definitely recommend it to others.

Great place

  • 4 of 5

We spent 5 days in Amaca.

Wonderful, quiet place with a million dollar view to the sea and the rocks and the beach. The sea is great, many very good restaurants. We loved Peccati Di Gola : pizza and beer were awesome!

Also Tico-Tico was great: both places are very reasonably priced, friendly and the food was excellent...

The bed could be better but we were out for days and did not mind.

Carlo was wonderful, helping to park our car at a free spot and showed us around Meta.

There is 5 min walk to the bus stop to Sorrento and 15 min to the train station from where we could go to Sorrento, Napoli, Pompei etc.

we can highly recommend the place if your want simple and quiet time in Italy.

Thank you Viktor and Elena

  • 5 of 5

lovely but with some concerns

  • 3 of 5

The view and garden were amazing, and the garden itself gorgeous, tastefully arranged and well kept. The owner was extremely friendly. Meta as a town is a wonderful place to take a week break. The beach was literally only 250 steps away from the apartment, and the town offered cheap and delicious dining options and extremely friendly people/ service. Although we did not partake, it also seemed well connected to public transport that would allow you to travel around the Sorrento peninsula. The house itself was fine, but what bothered us were three points:

1) Calling this a house is stretching the semantics of ‘house’ a bit. It is an autonomous unit, but it is connected to two other ‘houses’, one over the bedroom (we could hear the footsteps) and the other underneath (hear the bathroom). For me this is an apartment. Also you have to walk through another ‘house’s’ garden to get to our apartment.

2) Second, we chose this apartment over other houses which were cheaper, because it offered an air-conditioner, a must in order to sleep in 35 degree heat. There was an aircon, clearly over 20 years old, and it blew air but not always cold air, and this made sleep extremely difficult (we called the owners, in general really lovely people, but they did not seem to take our complaint seriously).

3) The bathroom is very small (not much can be done about that), but with an apartment of this price, one would expect a working showerhead. Again, it spouted water but was old and did not hang very well and was constantly falling on our heads while we showered.

All and all, because of these problems I am not sure I would recommend the apartment to my friends. In the end it really depends on what you find important in a rental and what time of year you come.
