Lovely cottage and amazing sunsets

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at Peter's cottage. It is nicely decorated, clean, bright, and breezy. We loved that there are two decks, front and back, so you can always find either sun or shade - whatever you are looking for. The outdoor shower on the back deck is fantastic. I never took an indoor shower the whole week. The sunset views over the Merrimack river are amazing. People from all over the island come to the spot right in front the cottage to see the sunsets. The beds are comfortable and the linens are of nice quality, with an abundance of towels. The kitchen was well equipped, and the BBQ grill on the back deck is very nice.

The location is great. About 7-8 minutes to walk to the beach (through the path at the end of Hutchins Rd). Short walk to the Plum Island Grille, and short bike ride to the Wildlife refuge.

It was just two of us for most of the week, but having the extra two twin beds was a big plus when we had overnight guests. Peter was very accommodating when we asked if we could extend our stay for a couple more nights. We would definitely stay again.

Unmatched water view's looking out to the river was gorgeous everyday

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our 8 night stay at the River View Cottage on Plum Island .

Small but detailed cottage for us was perfect being a couple but room for our occasional 4.

Cottage has a good deal of privacy and plenty of parking for our kayak trailer

Outside shower is a plus when getting home from the beach ,we couldn't get out !

The cottage's price also is unbeatable VS a hotel room 2/beds for the same amount .

All the sheets and linens are fresh and beds that are made up are of nice quality

We were in heaven cooking on the new gas gill with full tank of propane

We have already put in for next summer with the owners who are local and helpful 24/7

Thank you and see you again next year Peter & Kiersten

Very good stay. 2nd time visiting in last 12 months we were more on our own than last time.

  • 4 of 5

Great location, beautiful views of salt marsh and Merrimack River in the distance, gorgeous sunsets from front deck. Love the outdoor shower, Peter (owner) provided brand new gas grill, replaced a worn beach chair and delivered and installed a new

screen door for the front slider. Location is wonderful, relatively private for Plum Island, when windows and sliders are open, cross breezes are cooling and very comfortable.

Cottage is bright and cheery, close to the beach.

Several "small" items made this a 4 star visit. The bed in the larger bedroom is too small to comfortably sleep 2, so we stayed in the bedroom with the 2 single beds. They are incredibly comfortable but we're not made when we arrived so we had to make them up ourselves. After a long flight, this was quite inconvenient. Last year they they were made up. There also was only enough dish soap to say there was dish soap and ran out after breakfast on day 1 so we bought some as we are active in the kitchen for breakfast daily and dinner on occasion. There also was not enough toilet paper for the week, so we bought that as well.

The cottage comes with a manual of sorts that provides instructions for trash disposal, recycling, wi-fi password etc.... we could not locate it, so did what we thought was logical. Found it today when preparing to leave, should have been on the kitchen table not in a kitchen cabinet.

Overall , a great stay. Thank you Peter and Kirsten for sharing Riverview with us. We'll be back!

Wonderful Relaxing Weekend.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at River View was really lovely. Cottage is well decorated, very clean and peaceful. We loved walking to the beaches and around the Tidal Basin. The front deck was perfect for watching birds in the salt marsh in the morning and spectacular sunsets over the river in the evening. And the cool ocean breeze during the night was divine. We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend and highly recommend this cottage!

Plum Island
Car: recommended

Plum Island is a beautiful barrier island with ecclectic beach homes, miles of sandy beaches and access to a bustling quaint New England town (Newburyport).

The southern stretch of Plum Island is mostly a federal preserve called the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, with miles of beaches, walking trails, and observation decks which are great for viewing wildlife that include birds, butterflies, deer, and owls. The state's breathtaking Sandy Point State Reservation is located on the southern tip of the island.

Newburyport is a postcard-pretty New England seaport with stately Federalist-style homes, a lively downtown, and sunset cruises. About 45 minutes north of Boston, Newburyport is centrally located for touring not only Eastern Massachusetts and other North Shore communities, but also southern New Hampshire and Maine. Like many seaports, its downtown is filled with small arts and crafts shops with nautical and New England themes, good restaurants, and the occasional night spot. As you walk along the brick sidewalks, you'll see historic mansions, gardens, and old mill buildings converted into shops. Summer concerts and events are often held at a park that abuts the Merrimack River before it feeds into the Atlantic Ocean.
