Two Story Beachfront House in Playa Samara - Steps to the Warm Ocean, with Wifi

Sámara, Costa Rica

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8. A/C, internet, BBQ grill & hammock- perfect!

This is a charming two-story house right on the beach in Playa Samara. This is proof of what they say are the 3 most important characteristics in choosing real estate... location, location, location! The patio on the first level is paradise- whether you're swinging in a hammock or rocking in a chair, you're in the right place for ocean breezes and relaxation.

Both bedroom units have an air conditioner to make sure you're comfortable. Each floor has a private entrance and patio/balcony, private bedroom with queen bed, bathroom, living area, pull out double trundle bed and full kitchen with all of the necessary appliances.

If you're looking for a tropical paradise getaway, with all of the conveniences of home, this is the place for you! There is not a house closer to the beach than this! The location is perfect, as you are not in the downtown area with all the night life keeping you awake at night. We're just 3/4 mile east of the town and all of the stores and restaurants.

Just sitting in a rocking chair on either porch will let you know you chose the right place. Watch the ocean, surfers, fishermen, sunsets, etc. without having to leave the property.

This property is my simple, well-kept beach home. It is a private house on a public beach in Latin America. It is not a luxury hotel in a security-patrolled compound.

The house floors are separated by an outside staircase. It is just perfect for several adults who want some private space. This house s rented to one party at a time. It is not rented as two individual rental units.

Security is important to me and my guests- every window and door has security bars (either inside or outside), as most of my guests are not familiar with staying in foreign countries outside of hotel grounds. Another layer of security is CCTV cameras pointing at the inside and outside of the 3 access doors, which you can turn off by clicking a switch. You can view the cameras on a monitor in the lower kitchen. It is all for your security and peace of mind during your stay.

There are two outside showers to rinse your feet/body prior to entering the house or porches. The water here is very good quality, certainly acceptable for drinking and cooking.

Occupancy is limited to 8 people. There are a total of 2 queen beds and 4 single trundle beds to accommodate 8 people comfortably (4 per floor).

The house is about 2 hours from the Liberia Airport (LIR) and and about 4.5 hours from the San Jose Airport (SJO), all depending on traffic conditions, weather, etc. A rental car is recommended, but not necessary. If you want a shuttle from the airport, many of my guests have used Carrillo Tours with total satisfaction. www.carrillotours.com.

Regardless of what VRBO may post or state, here is my THOROUGH cancellation policy:

Cancellation Deposit Refund Policy: If a reservation is made and you wish to cancel, your security deposit will be refunded as follows: More than 90 days prior to intended occupancy date- 100%, 60- 89 days 75%, 30-59 days 50%, Less than 30 days you do not get any refund of your deposit. There are no exceptions! Your $200 Damage Deposit will be 100% refunded if home and property is left undamaged. You will only be charged a cleaning fee if the property is left a mess or excessively dirty, and the fee will be based on the additional work needed.

Note- if my calendar has an opening of ONLY 2 consecutive days, please inquire about making an exception to my 3 night minimum policy. Thank you!

About Brett Meckes

I enjoy swimming and long beach walks. Having visited Playa Samara many times back in the 90's, I was fortunate enough to have a house become available back around the year 2000.

Why Brett Meckes chose Sámara

I bought this property because of the location- that's about it. You simply can't find a better beach-front location in my opinion. I had no desire to be in-town, and deal with the noise and people hawking their wares to me every day (though we do see some venders). Privacy and solitude are two things you will enjoy at this house.

What makes this House unique

This is a two-story house. I have made each floor into a one-bedroom apartment, in that each unit has a bathroom, private bedroom, sink, fridge, stove and sitting area. Two couples or families with adult children may find it better than renting two (or more) hotel rooms. The staircase is outside the house, for more privacy in the living areas of each floor.

          Location Type

            • Beach View
From both floors you can see the wonderful bay that Playa Samara is on. It has a reef to protect the beach from terribly high tidal waves.
            • Beachfront
What a wonderful beach... Playa Samara is often rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the world.
            • Downtown
The house is located about 3/4 mile from the downtown area, so you don't hear as much of the "night life" as you may in town. It is an easy beach-front walk, passing restaurants/hotels close to town.
            • Oceanfront
About as close as you can get without getting wet!
            • Resort
NOT! Correct- this is NOT a resort property. It is a privately owned single family beach-front home. There are no resort amenities/entertainment- just a great porch, sandy beach and ocean our front!
            • Village
The house is located in "Matapalo", where fishermen have lived/worked for many years. Going to the house you pass an area that is not wealthy- formerly home to local fishermen, and some still there.

                                                                  Kate S.Washington, District of Columbia

Brett's place is everything you could want in a Costa Rican beach house. First, it's right on the water--at high tide you can practically dive from the second floor into the waves. And what a beautiful stretch of beach it is, with fantastic sunrise and sunset views and warm safe water for daily swims. The house is on the quiet end of the beach, which means often we were the only ones visible within a half mile. But the town of Samara, and its funky shops and awesome restaurants and bars is less than a mile walk along the water, so you don't need a car (though we were happy to have one to take day trips to nearby beaches and drive for groceries). The house itself is simple but lovely, especially the upstairs with its wood floors and high ceilings. The bedrooms are air-conditioned, which we were glad of in the hot month of March, but there's a great cross breeze through the main areas of the house and screens everywhere. Often that was enough to keep us cool. There are two kitchens and sleeping for four both upstairs and down, so it would be a great set-up for two families sharing. The beds are comfortable, the place was spotless when we arrived, and the property manager Melissa was very helpful with anything we needed. Internet worked great throughout the house, and the water was hot, both luxuries I did not expect. The upstairs and downstairs porches were great places to hang out, listen to the ocean, and watch birds, monkeys, and jealous tourists (who wished they had our sweet set-up) go by. We had the reservations for a year, and throughout it, Brett was great about communicating and answering questions. To be clear, this is a simple beach home, not a luxury resort property--and frankly, in our opinion, that's what makes it so perfect. Pura Vida!

                                                                  Owner's Response:

Thanks for your friendly comments, Nick & Kate. You were wonderful guests and of course welcome back any time. Melissa said you were a pleasure to deal with, and treated the home as if it were yours. Thanks again, and Pura Vida!

A very nice house in a beautiful location perfectly situated on the beach

                                                                  Ian M.Toronto

Our stay at Perla Mar was idyllic-the house is wonderfully situated a short distance from the town center on the beach making it quiet and peaceful. The upper floor gets wonderful breezes that blow through the balcony. The interior is lovely stained wood with high ceilings making the rooms feel big but cozy. Brett is a great host, very accessible with valuable information about the area and Costa Rica in general. Really enjoyed our stay there.

My wife and I were there with our three daughters for four nights and had a fantastic time. The beach is literally right out the backyard. The water was warm and the waves were perfect. We went snorkeling, fishing, and our girls went horseback riding on the beach. The house is very clean and comfortable and perfect for a large family or even two small families, as both the upstairs and downstairs have fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms. We used the charcoal grill and cooked at the house, and also ate at some great restaurant in the town of Samara (Ma Ma Gui's and Coco's). The location is a short walk down the beach from the town of Playa Samara. We felt very safe at all times and hope to return in the future. Thank you Brett and Pura Vida!

I spent a lot of time trying to find a house on the beach in Costa Rica. This is one of very few that I found and it did not disappoint! I have no complaints. It had everything that travelers would need. There were boogie boards and beach towels and the perfect view. No packing up your stuff to go to the beach for the day. You just walk out the door and into the ocean. It was nice having the air conditioning, hot water showers and two full size kitchens. There were only 4 of us so we mostly stayed upstairs, but we would love to come back and stay with another family. There was plenty of room. I can't say enough good things about this place. Brett, the owner, was easy to work with and very helpful too.

                                                                  Owner's Response:

Tanya, you were wonderful guests to have in my beach house. Melissa couldn't say enough nice things about you. I'm so glad it worked out well. I look forward to your return trip. Muchas gracias y pura vida!

                                                                  Sámara, Costa Rica

This is one of the few ocean-front homes available in Playa Samara. Just steps from your door to the warm Pacific Ocean. Far enough from downtown that you don't hear the noise on Holidays, but close enough to walk to for your daily meals. The local area around the house is an old fishing neighborhood called Matapalo. There is a local fish market, and some fishermen and families still live there. Going to the home you will pass through this area- it is not a wealthy area (behind my house). But all of that is left behind when you enter the home and open the doors to the spectacular porch and ocean-front setting. I don't try to make the house sound to be any more than it is- a simple house with an INCREDIBLE ocean-front location, only walking distance away from fun downtown shopping/restaurant area. This is considered a "Tico beach town" (Tico is a friendly term for Costa Rican's) , where the Ticos prefer to visit and spend their vacations, instead of "touristy" beach towns like Flamingo and Tamarindo.

If there are ONLY two consecutive nights open on my calendar, during the period you would like to visit, please send me a note to make an exception to the 3-night minimum rule. Again- that is only when there are NOT 3 consecutive nights available. Thank you!

To reserve the home a 50% deposit is due immediately. The remaining 50% is due 30 days prior to your stay. A security deposit of $200 is required within 7 days of your arrival. Please note that the standard VRBO cancellation policy is not correct for this rental. All fees are in US$ only. You must read my cancellation policy, it may not be the same one VRBO states.
