1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2
This newly renovated second floor Craftsman cottage in the heart of the cool neighborhood of North Park is a light filled vacation refuge.
One bedroom with a queen sized bed and a full bath with a great old cast iron tub for a lazy soak. There is a full sized washer and dryer in the laundry room for your convenience.
The kitchen is a sweet space! It is well appointed with pots and pans, dishes and cutlery, a microwave, rice cooker and a full sized gas stove and compact refrigerator. Lots of storage for a long stay.
There is a lovely dining room and a living room overlooking the garden and the 100 year old pepper tree.
Outside the door to the apartment is a cute little second story deck - soak up the sun in the morning or afternoon and enjoy the evening sky, the tree tops, the garden below and the neighborhood beyond.
Access to the apartment is either from the alley behind or the street in front of the main house - both through locked gates. There is a parking spot in the alley or you may park on the street.
Balboa Park is just a couple of blocks away. The #2 bus to down town is around the corner. Loads of breweries, restaurants, shops and groceries are within easy walking distance.
This is a great neighborhood of mostly Craftman Style homes and a bustling center at University and 30th. There are several smaller commercial centers with interesting shops, restaurants and amenities.

About Kim Itkonen
I am a Canadian who has been living in the US for about 20 years. I'm 60 years old, a musician and artist. I'm a jazz lover; sing jazz and play jazz piano. My husband is a retired UCSD computer Science prof. We enjoy the outdoors, desert camping, being on the water. I love gardening, cooking and learning new subjects or just digging deep into my current passion. I'd like my guests to be comfy and cozy. Help me make your stay the best. If there's anything thing you need - just ask!
Kim Itkonen purchased this Apartment in 1996
Why Kim Itkonen chose North Park
This neighborhood is a gallery of Craftman Style houses. In the almost 2 decades we have owned it the neighborhood has gone from being a little down and out to being a hub of hip. Home ownership pride shows in the care folks take in renovation and restoration of these great houses. Our home and the rental apartment above the garage are beautifully situated on a lot and a half allowing a large garden on the south side. Gardening is a great pleasure for me and this property gave me ample space for its pursuit.
What makes this Apartment unique
So close to Balboa Park, only 15 minutes from the airport, the #2 bus to downtown is just around the corner. Lots to to within walking distance including restaurants, sports, theater, shopping, breweries and more!

A very well equipped and appointed property with welcoming owners; a peaceful retreat. Great neighbourhood cafes, restaurants and other amenities in North Park & nearby South Park. The access to a range of bus routes plus walking to nearby Balboa Park negated the need for a car.
Wonderful spot in SD
comfortable and beautiful 1 bedroom apartment in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. Many restaurants and shops nearby and an easy drive to anything. Apartment is fully equipped.
Also a big bonus is that Balboa park near by, you could even walk.
Clean, well kept property in a perfect location
It was a really nice apartment tucked away behind other homes. Easy street access to a gate leads to a staircase up into the apartment. Lots of windows for ample light, open living and dining areas. Large bedroom and bath. Kitchen was smaller, but has everything you need. Great setup all around. The only drawback I noticed was that there was only 1 window air conditioner and had it been any hotter I could have foreseen some restless nights but we lucked out with perfect San Diego weather. Perfect location for a quick Uber to gaslamp or any of the other local breweries. I will definitely be coming back.
Beautiful and relaxing
This “tree house” is absolutely adorable! It also has everything you could possibly need. I didn’t think we would use the washer and dryer but it came in very handy after our day of snorkeling. The little out door seating area is perfect. This place is perfect for two people. It’s just a two minute drive to the zoo and Balboa Park. Also if you like tacos, Craft and Sea is only a 5 minute walk from the apartment and it has an amazing fried portabello mushroom taco. Everything was perfect but I should say this place doesn’t have a TV and smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property. The tv was not much of an issue though because we watch movie on an IPad. We would definitely stay there again.
This is an extremely well maintained property. It is quiet with an abundance of natural light. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to a return visit.
Wonderful location for exploring San Diego's North Park neighborhood
This is a great location if you are interested in exploring North Park on foot. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance. Convenient parking was provided for those who need a car. It is a short drive to many other parts of the city with easy access to the highway. The apartment had all the amenities we were looking for and was quite comfortable. I would highly recommend this rental. The hosts were most gracious and helpful.
North Park has tons of great restaurants, breweries and shops. Balboa Park is a huge park the northeast corner of which (Bird Park) is just a couple of blocks away. There are tennis courts, ball fields, golf course, a velodrome, sand volley ball court, hiking, bike paths, disc gold course and an outdoor pool (which is open most of the year). It will take 15 or 20 minutes to walk to the zoo and the many museums, gardens, the Organ Pavillion, the Japanese friendship garden, the Old Globe theater, the Prado Restaurant and more. Lots to do in the park! University and 30 is the main commercial area - 10 minutes away but there are several other small commercial hubs with a variety of shops, restaurants, bars etc. One is at Thorn and 32nd. Another is at Juniper and 30th and yet another at Fern and Beech. Much exploring to do in the neighborhood within walking distance. There is a bus stop just around the corner. Take the #2 bus to downtown where you can wander and discover the city's downtown, Gaslamp area, take in a baseball game, check out Little Italy, walk along the harbor and visit Seaport village. A taxi from the airport will cost about $18.
