This 1927 home features 3000 square feet with a beautiful view of the Temple!
Location, location, location! You can't stay closer to the Nauvoo Temple than at the Hart House, across the street from the temple! This location has an unobstructed view of the temple, in addition to a panoramic view of the Mississippi River.
The Hart House is a finely constructed home with beautiful oak woodwork, hardwood floors, French doors with original glass, and had been well maintained by Dorothy Hart. Nauvoo Management Group, LLC spent the winter of 2004-2005 redecorating and remodeling the home and adding central air conditioning for the comfort and enjoyment of guests.
The home has a large front porch for visiting and enjoying the view of the temple and Mississippi River.
Entering the front door, the large living room has a sofa and love seat, a fireplace and entertainment center. Through double French doors the large dining room seats 8 for dinner and has beautiful oak window seats in the bay window featuring a view of the Mississippi River. Through another set of double French doors you are in the library with over a hundred books about church history and Nauvoo.
The kitchen has retained its original pine cabinetry, but added modern appliances for convenience. It has most of the utensils and kitchen supplies a family would need while staying in Nauvoo. Off the kitchen is a sun porch with a table for four, offering a view of the garden in the back. Also located on the main floor is a half bath for the convenience of guests.
There is a beautiful oak stairway from the living room, and a 'servant's' stairway from the kitchen to the upstairs bedrooms. The two large bedrooms at the back of the home feature queen size beds and walk-in closets. The large master bedroom with a beautiful view of the temple, features a king size bed, walk-in closet, attached half bath, and a TV/VCR. The upstairs hall bathroom has a vanity, toilet and shower.
The basement has been completely remodeled with a family room featuring a queen size sofa sleeper, rocker-recliner, entertainment center with 31' TV, VCR, DVD, CD and Surround Sound. There are video cassettes and DVDs about Nauvoo and Carthage available to view. High speed internet is also available in the home. The full bathroom includes a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub and separate shower. Also available for guest's use is a washer and dryer. The Tom Sawyer-Huck Finn bedroom is off the family room and has twin bunk beds.
The Hart House, with its beautiful Nauvoo art, comfortable furnishings, and fantastic location will make your visit to Nauvoo a memorable stay!

Wonderful experience! Perfect to be so close to the temple for our daughters wedding and the house was a perfect setting for our occasion. Absolutely loved it!!
Perfect location, charming home.
We loved our stay in this charming home. This is the perfect location right across the street from the temple. The home is charming with plenty of space. You will love it too!
I would stay again and/or recommend to a friend
Best location in town, large home with plenty of space, and fully equipped (kitchen, dishes, laundry, towels, etc.). Loved it. Definitely an older home (could read: lots of character), but it's in good repair and made it that much more fun for a vacation rental.
The location can not be beat. It is a charming old house with lots of space. It has old house problems though. The radiators didn't seem to work very well upstairs and so it was very cold the first night. But the manager responded promptly to my concern and brought over some space heaters which helped quite a bit. The manager did respond very promptly to all my concerns and was very helpful. The kitchen sink faucet had no water pressure so there was no way to wash dishes but the dishwasher took care of that. All in all we did enjoy our stay very much and would stay there again in a heart beat.
comfortable and convenient
This was a comfortable home to stay in. The woodwork in main living area was beautiful. The home overall does show its age a bit. The bedrooms were comfortable. All though it has room for many people the kitchen was a little outdated and small for fixing large meals for our group.
Very convenient for our group and what we wanted & needed to do in Nauvoo. Entrance to the home was quick & convenient.
Maybe a better list of supplies provided and where to find them(such as garbage bags). Supposedly some games were to be provided. We found a couple of games & puzzles but with missing pieces. We used them anyway.
It needed better introductions on how to clean the home when we checked out.
Did not have a working DVD player
Internet was unreliable for most of the time.
I'm sorry it wasn't a 5-star stay for you Joselyn. I appreciate your feedback though, and I will make sure to implement your suggestions. Thanks again for staying in our home.
Great Location and the Best views
Ours and our Brothers family stayed at the Heart Home. There were 11 of us and we fit just fine. The location is key. Easy to get to everything while staying in Nauvoo. When we were done with the day we could walk home past the Temple and enjoy the best views around.
Sitting on the porch , chatting about our day while under the lights of the Temple were some of our best moments.
We did wish the master bedroom had more than a toilet and sink. One shower for three bedrooms made it tough to get ready. The basement bathroom has a nice shower and jetted tub but it accommodated those on that level.
We would stay again as the views and location are great! "Cute as Heck" is what our brother said.
The location truly is special and one-of-a-kind in Nauvoo. We're happy to hear your stay at the Hart House was a memorable experience. The 1/2 bath was added to the master bedroom during our last remodel of the home, but we weren't able to add another shower. With historic homes, there is a balance between adding modern amenities and preserving the original structure and woodwork. The Hart House is a very nice blend of the two!
Nauvoo is an historic town established by the Mormons in 1839. It grew to be the largest town in Illinois, along with Chicago, with a population of 15,000 - 20,000 people. After the martyrdom of the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, in 1844, Brigham Young led the Saints from Nauvoo to the Great Salt Lake over the Mormon Trail.
Only about 1100 people remained in Nauvoo after the exodus of the Latter-day Saints. In the 1960's a descendant of one of the Nauvoo pioneers purchased his ancestor's home and began restoration. Nauvoo Restoration Inc. was established and since then over thirty historic homes and businesses have been restored or reconstructed, and are available for free tours.
The Nauvoo Pageant is held every summer with thousands of visitors to the city to watch the performance of song and dance relating the Mormon history in Nauvoo.
In addition, the Nauvoo Temple was restored in 2002, and is modeled after the original temple which was destroyed by arson in the late 1840's, and later by tornado in the 1850's.
Visitors to Nauvoo enjoy the free tours and entertainment, where there is fun and education for the entire family! It is an extra treat to 'make your home away from home in Nauvoo!
