The Cantal mountains (or Cantalian massif, or Cantal volcano) are a French mountain massif located in the center-west of the Massif Central, in the regional natural park of the volcanoes of Auvergne. It consists of the remains of the largest visible stratovolcano in Europe. Appeared about 13 million years ago, this volcano, whose last eruptions are dated about 2 million years1, was largely dismantled by massive collapse phenomena and fluvial and glacial erosion.
