Our Coastal GA is a hidden secret from many as we cherish the salt air, winding rivers and deep water ocean access without all the quick pace and hurry, hurry feeling.

Check out the New York Times article entitled 'American Journeys: Shifting Sands and a Slow Pace on the Georgia Coast' for his take on what he experienced.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed the nice weekend get away at the cottage. A time to unplug and commune with nature. The sunsets at the dock were a perfect greeting to the evening. We enjoyed a camp fire at night and it didn't rain and the overall serenity feel of coastal living along the marsh! Thank you!

Perfect for an Authentic Coastal Georgia Experience

  • 4 of 5

All that we wished to experience while in Georgia, was readily available and close by.

The cottage is comfortable and has all you need for a comfortable stay.

The property is a beautiful setting and we thoroughly enjoyed the covered dock, crabbing and the incredible breeze that was always there. We were amazed how refreshing it was considering we were there in July .

We kayaked, saw the dolphins and simply enjoyed this sweet cottage. The running water in the home, as warned , does have a smell and "taste" that might be an issue for some. We managed a week there and bpight alot of bottled water . We enjoyed all the great authentic southern food at many" local " eateries (altons, speeds, hunters, b & j, sapelo station) , and day tripped to savannah, tybee, st simon, even Amelia Island and stopped in places in between. We met such wonderful and welcoming people . The kindest I have ever met! Folks at Shellman's fishing Camp and Pine Harbor were so nice . We didn't get to catch a redfish with our guide, but will return when they are more plentiful in October. We really loved this location and the cabin that had all that you needed for a sweet, peaceful and authentic coastal Georgia experience. Thank you Chris and Alan for all your help. We will see you again soon :)

Super quiet, cozy getaway spot...perfect for unplugging from life for a few days

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend a couple of months before our son is due to be born (we left the two kids we have with family and called it a 'babymoon'). We love to fish and crab and explore new places, so the cottage was perfect for us. Quiet back porch, private dock, fire pit, grill, it was more than we expected. It should be noted that the RDC is an older building that's obviously had some upgrades over the years and has been taken care of, but don't expect EVERY amenity. There is no dishwasher, the bathroom is pretty small, and the beds are both full-size. But everything works, there's cable TV and good wifi (however for some reason the TV is mounted pretty high on the wall, probably because that's where a strong anchor point is we guessed). The grill is in great shape and the back porch and dock is where we spent most of our time anyway. Fishing, crabbing, and just enjoying the quiet and the incredible view was beyond what we had hoped for. Some side trips to Darien, Crescent, and the little community of Shellman Bluff allowed us to try some new places to eat and meet some great people as well. For a couple or a small group (4 people is really all it will hold) that want to go somewhere quiet and just unwind for a while, this place is as good as it gets. Since the dock is on one of the side creeks there really wasn't a lot of boat traffic and we spent hours there just enjoying the marsh. The RDC has obviously been taken care of with some love and has been a refuge for quite a few years. It should be a blessing for many years to come for lucky travelers. We plan to return to the RDC!

Unexpectedly nice

  • 4 of 5

Exterior is at best underwhelming, as is its location away from water and dock. But inside the cottage is lovely, clean, nice furniture, and cheery decor. Good short-term rental!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your River Drive Cottage review. Our cottage exterior features the "natural" look of the cedar lap siding in keeping with the property and the feel of nature. All pictures are true to life with the White Chimney River being about 50 yards away. We preserved the yard space for outdoor fun prior to the entrance to the dock runway to get to the water. The owners pride themselves in keeping the "nature" and "Beauty" of the Coastal Georgia green space preserved for family enjoyment. We appreciate the compliments regarding the interior features and look forward to you returning to the Georgia Coast again. Owner's Response: Thank you G & C and looking forward to your return. What a great shot of a mess of sheep head you caught with your boat you brought in to run on the White Chimney River at your back yard! The owners and I are happy you were able to relax of an evening and weekend after a long day at work on a job in our area. A little marsh salt air will definitely help the body and soul take a deep breath and relax, refresh, and rejuvenate! We hope you can bring your wives next time and get some fishing and island hopping in. Warm Salt Coast Regards, Chris & The Property Owners

Nice Relaxing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second year in a row that I have stayed at this cottage. It has been upgraded and is very clean and Chris is very nice to work with (she also makes a tasty banana bread). I went out on my boat fishing during the day and my wife stayed home and got to play with the dolphins at the dock. She said that they came right up to her and acted like they were trying to tell her something (I think they were asking where their food was:). You can catch blue crabs off of the dock in the trap that is provided and you can fish there too. If you bring your boat, you can put it in at a ramp that is a short distance away but make sure that you go when the tide is at least half way in. The dock is actually out of the water at low tide so you have to either wait until the tide comes in some before you go out or you can anchor the rear end of your boat back behind the dock. We will definitely be back next year!
