Our tides ebb and flow and there are tide charts in the cottage guest book to keep an eye out for the high and low tides.

Minutes away from all the restaurants and social gathering places on THE BLUFF. Bring your golf cart and never get in your vehicle your entire vacation.

For all those golfers who would like to be a couple of miles away from the Sapelo Hammock Golf Course, come on down! Those who want to enjoy all of the wildlife we have, take a trip to the Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge just minutes away. If you want to take a charter out to fish or island hop or just go to the beach, we can make that happen for you with Captain Alan. WE have Blackbeard's, Sapelo, St. Catherine's, Ossabaw and more Islands within a short boat trip. WE have reds, trout, sheephead, crabs and more ready to be caught and cooked up for your dinner!!

Take in the salty air while sitting on the cottage deck and light a fire in the outdoor fireplace while swinging on the many porch swings. Enjoy good old fashion grilling in the charcoal grill. Might need to add charcoal to your 'To Bring' list. Grocery stores close by with the Dollar General coming soon 4 miles away and the Piggly Wiggly is about 10 minutes away. Grab some Clyde's fried chicken and your favorite beverage for the boat trip out for the day. Use one of the 3 marinas within 2 miles to hoist your boat in or use the White Chimney Ramp about 1/4 mile from the cottage. Plenty of room to park your boat trailer in the yard for the duration of your stay and leave your boat in the water.

Shopping is a hop, skip, and a jump away in neighboring Darien, Richmond Hill, Savannah or Brunswick. Fly in to the SAV or BWK or JAX airport and a short ride to your get-away!!

Our Coastal GA is a hidden secret from many as we cherish the salt air, winding rivers and deep water ocean access without all the quick pace and hurry, hurry feeling.

Check out the New York Times article entitled 'American Journeys: Shifting Sands and a Slow Pace on the Georgia Coast' for his take on what he experienced.

What makes this cottage unique

The sunsets will be something you will cherish for days to come. The water frontage and winding river you can travel on with big boat or kayaks available to rent out for the property will surely give you an idea of why we all gravitate to this area. We hope you will come back!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed the nice weekend get away at the cottage. A time to unplug and commune with nature. The sunsets at the dock were a perfect greeting to the evening. We enjoyed a camp fire at night and it didn't rain and the overall serenity feel of coastal living along the marsh! Thank you!

As you and many others have discovered, the slower pace of relaxing, refreshing, and rejuvenating are just a few of the highlights of our Coastal Georgia Secret. Unexpectedly nice

  • 4 of 5

Exterior is at best underwhelming, as is its location away from water and dock. But inside the cottage is lovely, clean, nice furniture, and cheery decor. Good short-term rental!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your River Drive Cottage review. Our cottage exterior features the "natural" look of the cedar lap siding in keeping with the property and the feel of nature. All pictures are true to life with the White Chimney River being about 50 yards away. We preserved the yard space for outdoor fun prior to the entrance to the dock runway to get to the water. The owners pride themselves in keeping the "nature" and "Beauty" of the Coastal Georgia green space preserved for family enjoyment. We appreciate the compliments regarding the interior features and look forward to you returning to the Georgia Coast again. Owner's Response: Thank you G & C and looking forward to your return. What a great shot of a mess of sheep head you caught with your boat you brought in to run on the White Chimney River at your back yard! The owners and I are happy you were able to relax of an evening and weekend after a long day at work on a job in our area. A little marsh salt air will definitely help the body and soul take a deep breath and relax, refresh, and rejuvenate! We hope you can bring your wives next time and get some fishing and island hopping in. Warm Salt Coast Regards, Chris & The Property Owners

Nice Relaxing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second year in a row that I have stayed at this cottage. It has been upgraded and is very clean and Chris is very nice to work with (she also makes a tasty banana bread). I went out on my boat fishing during the day and my wife stayed home and got to play with the dolphins at the dock. She said that they came right up to her and acted like they were trying to tell her something (I think they were asking where their food was:). You can catch blue crabs off of the dock in the trap that is provided and you can fish there too. If you bring your boat, you can put it in at a ramp that is a short distance away but make sure that you go when the tide is at least half way in. The dock is actually out of the water at low tide so you have to either wait until the tide comes in some before you go out or you can anchor the rear end of your boat back behind the dock. We will definitely be back next year!

One of the Best Vacations!

  • 5 of 5

What else can I say other than how much we loved the River Dr. Cabin...it was such an amazing spot! The cabin isn't fancy, but it's clean, efficient, fully stocked, and comfortable. In other words, perfect for a family or couple who love to enjoy the outside. The views from the porch, the swing, and the dock are completely stunning...the marsh changes so much from high to low tide. At low tide, the dock does have water, but not a lot. You have to be creative on tying your boat for low tide. It is doable though. High tide, no worries at all! The dock itself is large, and the porch swings are great to enjoy morning coffee or an evening cocktail in the breeze. The fishing is amazing! The river is teeming with bait fish, shrimp, blue crabs...It was amazing to see. If you have a boat, the Sapelo Sound is about 10 miles away, and for us, the fishing was great. We saw so many porpoises, too. This cabin is in the perfect location!

I can't wait to plan another visit to the River Cabin, hopefully with our extended family, too. I can't wait to share this area with our family again. Thank you to Chris and Alan for being so helpful with information about the area and making sure we had everything!

We'll be back!

Falsely advertised

  • 2 of 5

Let me start by saying the property and cottage are very nice. The problem is it was not as they advertised. The main problem was the dock. It is not at all a deep water dock. It is very much tidal. The reason I rented this place was for a deep water dock. I called ahead to make sure there would be room for my boat and that I could come and go at low tide. A couple weeks before we went on our vacation I was asked if I was bringing a boat. I told them again that I was. I was later told that the other property was being rented and there would be plenty of room for both boats. We arrived tied to the dock and went out to eat. While eating I started getting text and calls from the realtor about moving my boat or tying tandem.i told her this is exactly what I didn't want to deal with. When We arrived back at the cottage my boat had been moved and tied to the guest boat instead of the dock. We paid for dock space but didn't get it. Further more at low tide your boat is in the mud no matter where you are tied up.

It turns out the two guys were actually two families with lots of kids. There was no fishing tournament. We were simply lied to. I was also told that if we sit on the porch we wouldn't even know the other house is there. The porch faces directly to the side of the house.

If the property was listed as a tidal dock and had a picture of the full property none of this would have made a difference. We liked the property, but it was false advertised.

The cottage was clean and cozy. We loved the fire pit. It's great for dogs. I just wish they would show the property on line for what it is instead of making it something it is not.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments and please know that we include the information about there being 2 vacation rental properties available and possibly sharing of the dock. We tandem tie boats all over our coastal waterways when docking is limited. Our tides ebb and flow as all fishermen know as well as negative tides making water more shallow. We also have completely private dock vacation rentals available as well. Appreciating and sharing the beauty of our coast is what we are all about. We thank you for your visit and congratulations on your engagement during your stay. So happy you enjoyed the fire pit and plenty of running room for your dogs. Thankfulness is a nice touch as well. Warm Coastal Regards, Chris and the Owners
