About the property

Sleeps 6. 3 Bedrooms. 1.5 Bathrooms.

Lovely old Victorian home, listed on the historic register, restored with all the modern conveniences and comforts. Located in the historic downtown, walking distance to all the great restaurants, art galleries, shopping and wine tasting. The Ferris House is fully equipped with all the essentials to make your stay in McMinnville memorable!

The Ferris House was built circa 1890, and was purchased by us in 2010. We purchased it from the Daughter of Mel and JoAn Ferris. Mel grew up in the house, and generations of The Ferris family have lived there since Mel's mother moved to McMinnville in 1936. She arrived with five children from the mid-west to work in the Turkey factories in our town. Since then six generations have lived in the house over the years, until we purchased it. The family feared that the buyers of the home would tear it down, but we had different plans.

We spent 6 months restoring the house, keeping the old charm of the design, while building in modern comforts for the years to come. In November of 2010 we got married right in the living room, making this home a part of our own personal history.

With the 100+ year old cedar and maple trees protecting the house from the warm Oregon summer sun, there is a great canopy of elegant green to match the greens of the old Edwardian. We planted fruit trees, herbs and roses around the yard so you will be in the middle of downtown with the wonders of nature surrounding you.

In furnishing the house, we focused on the same theme of The Ferris House, to restore, renew and re-purpose. Scouring antique stores for months, working on restoring lovely natural woods and finishes, decorations that fit the theme of the people that lived here in times past. We gave as much of our heart to the furniture, as we did to restoring the house. (Beds and mattresses are brand new!)

The Ferris House is also the big sister to The Bob House, which is located two blocks away. Please feel free to check out our past recommendations from guests, to get a feeling for who we are. It is our goal to make your vacation a memorable one!

Great home in great location

  • 4 of 5

The Ferris House is in a great location, close to 3rd street shopping and dining. The house is cute and charming and had everything we needed for the weekend. It is furnished and decorated enough to be comfortable but not so much that you feel like you're staying in someone else's home. My son loved the backyard, the mossy tree is amazing!

Ferris house of McMinnville

  • 4 of 5

Great location. Old house, with old world charm. Holli was easy to reach & responive to my inquiries. We made coffee, & were able to do laundry. Easy 5-10 minute walk to town.

Beautifully restored home in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We appreciated the small touches (housemade jam, wine), comfortable beds, and nice outdoor space. It's clear there was much attention to detail in the restoration. Would definitely return and stay longer!

Wonderful historic house in Downtown McMinnville

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolute blast staying at The Ferris House. Previous to our arrival, I told my wife just how close it was to the 3rd Avenue shops, but she didn't get it until we arrived. Staying right downtown made everything a snap, and we even met an amazingly nice woman at the Chamber of Commerce who *is* a Ferris! Needless to say she knew exactly where we were staying.

We were also able to meet Mick and Holli, who were incredibly nice and informative about the house, the history, and the town. We are heading back to McMinnville next month, and have already booked a stay at their property The Bob House (slightly different sleeping arrangement this time), and would recommend you stay at one of their properties without a moment's hesitation.

Very nice and cosy place to stay in

  • 5 of 5

It's an old historical house, but don't let that fool you. The house has everything you need, and all the modern nessesties a modern house offers. And the Location is very good one. Mick and Holli are a very nice people and they try to make your stay as comfortable as you need. When I asked for more pots and frying pans they brought them right up. A lovely smiling couple, and constantly asking if I needed anything. And for sure I would come back to them if I come to town again.

My husband and I stayed at The Ferris house with another couple. Great layout and room to have family and friends over for dinner. This was our first experience with VRBO/Homeaway. Thank you for making it a great one!
