About Matthew Kepley

Nikki and I met in high school but never dated until college. I played baseball at Catawba College and Nikki started her career as a cosmetologist in Raleigh, NC. After tying the knot in October of 2011 we began saving for our dream home. We figured it would be years before we were able to go shopping for a place on Badin Lake. However, by some miracle, we came across this little cottage and fell in love.

Matthew Kepley purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Matthew Kepley chose New London

We are weekend warriors. After working hard all week we pack up the Jeep and take off to anywhere fun and exciting. We had been visiting friends at Badin Lake for 5 years until we decided it was time to stop crashing on couches and find our own place. Out of all the places we have been, this is our favorite by far.

Quiet and Restful

  • 4 of 5

I stayed by myself, and was very relaxed. The home is perfect for that late Summer Getaway. The hot tub was great once it gets up to temperature. My best experience was walking onto the deck on the side of the house and seeing a herd/family of seven deer on the property across the fence. The lake is great. So many places you can fish, even without a private boat. Although, you do have to find them.

The only glitch was that I didn't receive the access code to get the key. This wasn't a major inconvenience since I phoned the owner and got the correct code. But I did get incorrect information from VRBO via a email confirmation.

All and all, after calling the owner, getting steaks from the "local" Food Lion, and a souvenir from "Spiders"... a relaxing time was had.

Need work!

  • 2 of 5

The master bed sinks in the middle. The deck outside was a mess. There are a lot of screws out on the boardwalk.

Owner's Response: Sonny, We are so sad to hear your stay was less than perfect. We have taken your feedback very seriously and looked into the issues you were having. In reference to the bed that "sinks in the middle," the slats under the mattress had just shifted to one end. We slid them back to their proper place and now the bed feels great. We are very sorry you felt it was uncomfortable and were unable to figure out how to fix it on your own. The deck boards have been repaired. In the future, if you ever have any questions or concerns about our home, we always suggest giving us a call right away so that we may have the opportunity to address the issues immediately. Again, we are sorry for the inconveniences. Sincerely, Nikki and Matt Kepley

Very cute house on Badin Lake

  • 4 of 5

We had an enjoyable stay at the Kepley's cottage, they were very accommodating with our check in and out for the holiday and we had a great time. The cabin has everything you need, my only recommendation would be to put a "swim" ladder back in on the dock, the one in the pictures is no longer there. You can use the frame of the dock to climb out but a ladder would be easier. Overall great stay and hope to be back!

Cute little cottage on the lake

  • 5 of 5

This place was as described in other reviews; small but big enough, generous amounts of linens, as well as many little things you may have forgotten. I found everything I needed to cook all our meals. The decor inside is super cute.

We enjoyed fishing off the dock (caught two large catfish!), grilling out and eating all our meals outside, making s'mores in the fire pit and lazing around on the deck. The bugs weren't as bad as I had expected. You'll enjoy your stay :)
