Located in Beach House Condominium about 2 miles north of the Queen Isabella Causeway, our 2 bedroom 2 bath retreat sleeps 6, with panoramic views from every great room window of the beach and gulf of Mexico, and from the adjoining full-width private balcony. Decorated in a tropical decor, it is located on the topmost 6th floor, complete with full amenities, and is just steps away from the beach. The land immediately to the north and south of the condo is less developed, so that there is a feeling of great space. It has on occasion been called a family oasis.

Again, just steps away, out of your front door is a magnificent view of the palm tree lined Padre Boulevard, the Laguna Madre bay, and the 2.4 mile long Queen Isabella Causeway which connects the island to the Texas mainland. Wake to the morning sunrise over the gulf as it spills into your living room. Step out of your front door for the best seat in the house to view the evening sun setting into the Laguna Madre Bay and weekly fireworks (in-season).

The unit interior has been professionally decorated in a warm tropical decor and has white ceramic tile throughout. It has a large great room with a modern, well equipped kitchen fully stocked with plates, glassware, utensils, and appliances.

The large master bedroom has a king-size bed. The adjoining master bathroom features a luxurious, large, custom built, fully tiled shower. The second bedroom has two double beds, an adjoining full bath, and a walk-in closet leading to a fully equipped laundry room.

The great-room includes a pullout couch that can sleep 2 and a 40 inch wide screen TV with Blue-ray player.

The tiled balcony is equipped with 2 comfortable rocking chairs, and a cocktail table and chairs for prime gulf vista viewing and relaxation.

You must be 30 or over to reserve this unit. Children, of course, are welcome under parent supervision. Due to our condo association rules, renters are not permitted to bring pets of any size.

Why Martin Sonders chose South Padre Island

Being life-long Michiganders, we wanted a tropical escape. We searched a good part of the nation's tropical coastline. Florida was at the peak of the real estate bubble. We would be lucky if we found a corner efficiency with a restricted view, or a condo hotel with a marshy beach water access, that maybe would allow us to rent a week as owners.

Myrtle Beach was extremely congested, over-priced, and high-rise over-whelming.

The Mississippi Gulf area suffered from the brackish, muddy influx of the Mississippi River.

The northern Texas Gulf beaches showed a mix of unappealing, rocky shorelines, a lack of resort-type restaurants, shopping and activities, and beaches that reeked of rotting seaweed.

When we were viewing Corpus Christi properties, we were advised by one owner, 'Don't bother going to South Padre Island, you won't like it.' We discussed his advice, along with the merits of Corpus Christi, including water that appeared so thick with jellyfish that you could walk on it. So we decided to check out South Padre anyway.

Amazing is an over-used term, but amazing it is, an undiscovered jewel, this pencil thin island at our condo is only about 3 blocks wide. Everywhere is water, palm trees, and tile-roofed vacation get-aways.

The beach is wide and inviting, with moderating breezes that provide cooler than mainland heat of the summer temperatures.

Local seafood is terrific, with a variety of restaurants that range from Dirty Al's on the gritty side, to Scampi's on the refined side.

The northern end of the island boasts miles of national seashore, with dunes that regularly make advances on Padre Boulevard, South Padre's main street.

Though spring break on the island gets lots of press, it’s presence on the island lasts one week. Our condo association does not allow renting to spring breakers, so our condo, protected with security gates and active on-site management, our facility serves even then as a family oasis.

What makes this condo unique

Our condo is located mid-island. Condominiums located in the south end of the island, close to the causeway, tend to be too large for any degree of quiet and privacy, and too far removed from the beach and Gulf to get the full ocean sight and sound experience. We love the sunrises, and the sight, sound and smell of the surf that surrounds us on our top, center located, 6th floor balcony.

Great Family Getaway!

Our family of 5 really enjoyed our stay. The views of the beach are incredible... we spent many hours on the balcony just enjoying the view. The condo is in a perfect location and it is easy to get anywhere your family wants to go. Everything you need to enjoy the beach is provided... toys, boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, etc. Owners are very responsive. Great experience!

Great family vacation!

We have stayed several places on the island and we believe this is the best! It is just a short private walk to the beach from the best unit on the property. It is also located within walking distance to most restaurants and bars. Marty was Sooooo accommodating! The unit was well maintained and clean. Juan (the property manager) is a super guy and very helpful! We could go on and on with positives. Needless to say, we would stay again!!!!

Nice location, well outfitted

The property was well located and there are plenty of household goods to include boogey boards, dishes, towels, etc. down side the beds are very firm and made for a week of bad sleep. The elevator was frequently not working and we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs repeatedly. Stairwell is very slippery when wet and I fell on the concrete steps.

Condo is very spacious and open. Loved the size of the balcony along with the view of the Gulf of Mexico. I can't say enough about the owners involvement ensures that your stay will be enjoyable and tranquil. I will recommend to friends who are looking to visit SPI. Great Job!

Fantastic place to stay! The condo was marvelous, very comfy and well maintained. And Martin was very accomodating when we had to cut our trip short when we had to cut our trip short due to weather (incoming hurricane!)

With warm summers and mild winters, South Padre Island is a year-round retreat, and to many an undiscovered jewel with minutes away attractions that include shopping, horseback riding, dolphin watching, boat and fishing charters (including our own local pirate ship), para sailing, kite boarding, and a plethora of gulf-side and bay-side dining opportunities to suite your every taste and mood. A shopping trip to Matamoros, Mexico is a half-hour drive away.

City fathers do an excellent job of providing wide, landscaped, well-patrolled boulevards, groomed and patrolled beaches, regular shuttle bus service around the island and to our local Brownsville airport, and nature and convention centers.
