Beautiful house, largely as advertised, boat is great
We really enjoyed our stay at Bearadise. The property was as advertised--nicely furnished, spacious, on the water, and complete with a pontoon boat. The setting is beautiful, and access was good (easy from the front, a bit steep but not crazy from the back).
As other reviewers have noted, the kitchen is small if you intend to house a lot of people--we were only 5 total, so it wasn't too bad. The limited refrigerator space is no joke--you are a pretty long drive from the grocery, so plan accordingly.
We found the beds, bathrooms, included linens, and kitchen gear to be on par with similar nice rental properties. As with any such property, the knives are dull, so bring your own or cook stuff that doesn't need a lot of prep.
The screened porch was particularly pleasant and saw a lot of use. The boat is in good working order, although it has some small issues. Above all else, having the boat on a wonderful lake like Nantahala is well worth it and adds immeasurably to the trip--we highly recommend this property for this reason (along with the general good quality of the property). Note when we were there the fish finder/depth finder was out of order, so serious anglers might want to investigate.
The owners communicated very well regarding the house, and the rental process was no-fuss. Overall, there were no surprises and we are happy with our experience and with the value.
Thank you for the 5 star rating! We agree that having our pontoon boat available every day at your own private dock is a real bonus. That's one of the best features of our lakehouse. There is a small grocery store 3 miles from our lake house that has many essentials if you need to make a quick run. The large grocery store (Ingles) is a 25 minute drive away. We replace most of our kitchen equipment at the beginning of the summer season. Since our summer season stays completely booked, our guests give our kitchenware a real workout. Thanks and please visit Bearadise again!
Beautiful location! Reasons for 3 explained below. Pontoon boat was a must!
Our family of 14(8 adults(ages ranging 40s-70s) and 6 kids(ages ranging 13-17) stayed at Bearadise for 1 week. We had a wonderful time. And, we wanted to share some important details so others can prepare in advance. The 4 king bedrooms were wonderful. The sleeping area for six teenagers was very tight. We made it work, but would offer a word of caution against truly sleeping 14 people comfortably...if we hadn't brought 2 air mattresses with us we would have been in trouble. There's only 1 regular sized side/by/side fridge/freezer...this created bad space challenges for us since we brought all of our food for a whole week(we knew that trips to the grocery store would waste Lake time so we packed in everything)...storage space the first few days wasn't enough...so we had to use 5 coolers and make trips to the marina for bagged ice to keep things cold. The walkway down to the dock is very steep and very difficult for the 70 year olds to navigate....the younger adults had to escort the grandparents up/down the steep hill.
The dock ladder was missing. Getting on to the dock from swimming was difficult.
There was 1 bath towel per person and the dryer is not functioning properly...we recommend bringing extra towels and be sure to hang dry your Lake towels in the sun when not in use.
The trash has to be hauled to the dump...we made 3 trips....beware that dump sites are only open on certain days...they are all at least 20+minute drives from the cabin. We brought our own tube and rope for tubing from the pontoon boat...highly recommend bringing your own tube...the one provided is very basic and we chose not to use it.
Having the pontoon boat for the week helped make up for some of our challenges.
Highly recommend taking the boat down to the waterfall access and hiking up the trail to the waterfall...we swam in it and got the most amazing photos! Turn right in to main lake out of your cove, go down and turn left @ the point, take your first right into the deep cut and go all the way down, there's a tree you can tie up to(we left an adult on the boat)...you can see the foot path into the woods on the left side of the cove...hike up about 20minutes...you can hear the waterfall all the way...lots of rocks/roots/some trees to climb over/under so wear water shoes and be careful of slippery footing. It's absolutely worth the hike! Also recommend hiking to waterfall on Rufus Morgan Trail...worth it!!! We used AllTrails app/website to find trails to hike.
We are pleased you loved our boat and home! And thanks for sharing the secret waterfall on the lake. It's important for guests to read all the materials provided when making your decision about what size home is best for you. Our 5 bedroom home which has two additional convertible twin beds in the downstairs den (making it 6 sleeping rooms) is one of the most spacious homes on the lake, and very few homes, if any, have as much porch space as our home does. We ask all our guests to bring their own towels for lake use as it's just too much to wash during a fast turnover day. Our walk to the lake is easy compared to many of the homes on this lake. We post a photo of the rear of the house just so guest can see the walk. We purchase a new tube each summer for use for our guests, but realize that you may have a certain type you prefer. One refrigerator is standard for most homes, but there's a "camp" store about 4 miles from our house that has all of the staples needed if you run out.
This is our third year vacationing here and as always it was perfect!
We love return guests! We consider you like family. Please come again!
A long needed vacation!!
We are a military family and constantly on the go. My husband just recently came home from a long deployment and this cabin retreat is what we really needed. The peace and quiet was a dream come true. The views were beautiful and the amenities were great. We had family come from all different states and not one time did we hear anyone say they didn't have room. The cabin is fully loaded with dishes, knives, pots, pans, washer, dryer and etc. My family loved the Bon fire and s'more night along with the hot tub on the chilly nights. One thing I really did like is you are truly cut off (cell phone) wise from everyone. Their is internet but it is a little slow, but we didn't mind. All in all our experience was one we will always remember and cherish. We are hoping to rent again during the summer this time :)
We are so pleased you had a wonderful vacation and rest! We hope you will visit in the summer. It's a whole different experience and our boat comes with the house in the summer! Thank you!
This is a wonderful, relaxing place for a vacation. We had 10 people aged 77 to 7 staying for 3 days and it was perfect for everyone. The first family vacation we have had in 15 years. We will plan to stay again in the future. Thanks to the owners for being so accommodating with our schedule due to the Tornado activity in Oklahoma. It was definitely nice to get away from all the chaos here and just relax. I highly recommend this place to anyone.
We are so happy you enjoyed your time at Bearadise! Please come again!
Comfortable Cozy Retreat
Two other couples, myself and my husband needed a weekend getaway. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay. The house was beautifully decorated with attention to every detail. We loved the screened porch with the fireplace. The only disappointing thing was that the lake was lowered and the dock was not in the water. However, the guys still where able to do a little fishing from the bank of the lake. Unfortunately no fish where biting-maybe too shallow or late in the season??? Would highly reccomend you stay here. Hopefully we will beable to return-maybe in the summer.
