About Susan Graef

We live in New York City but spend our summer's in Rockport. I am a free lance film editor and my husband is a teacher. My daughter and son are in high school and middle school. We can't get up for the whole summer so we are offering our home for others to enjoy.

Susan Graef purchased this house in 1997

Why Susan Graef chose Rockport

Rockport is the birthplace of my grandfather and I've been summering here my whole life. Once you visit, it's easy to see why Rockport is a magnet for artists and ocean lovers. Buying this house was a dream come true. My husband, myself and our two children love and cherish the time we spend there and would love other families to share in that experience.

What makes this house unique

Every person who enters this house expresses how peaceful and serene it is. It's not the Taj Mahal but it's home. Perhaps it's the light reflecting off the ocean, perhaps it's the quite or the view to the twin lighthouses but you could spend hours sitting on the porch perfectly content.

Once again a great stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time here and we can't wait to come back. There is so much to do in a short distance from this house. The house is big and has a home feel. No stuffy hotel or sterile feel. Relaxed every minute.

Quiet and gorgeous Rockport house

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a house for a long weekend in Rockport to host a family reunion and birthday party. This house had plenty of beds for family and guests. The kitchen was plenty big to serve a large group and was equipped with everything you need. Love the outdoor shower! Bikes available in the garage. Great backyard with a fire ring to make a nice campfire. Short walk to the rocky coast to hang out. Great view from the wrap around porch. We meant to go walk around Rockport, but were happy just hanging out at the house. Susan, the owner, got in touch with me right away to answer questions and provide other valuable info. The total experience was a "10".

There is a major construction project 20 feet from the front door. Loud, noise from 7AM.

  • 1 of 5

The owners failed to disclose this disruption in their VRBO ad. That is fraud. Lied about the project when we arrived. The construction was known to them in April. We rented June 24. This gross dishonesty ruined the experience. One could not use the outdoors, porch, etc without being subjected to extreme noise, plumes of sawdust, trucks coming and going. This began at 7 AM. THIS DURING MY LAST WEEK WITH MY DAUGHTER BEFORE COLLEGE. Utterly mendacious greedy owners. Looks like construction will last well into autumn and possibly next summer too.

Fraud, plainly, and actionable legally. If you have rented this place for later this year, cancel now. VRBO, will you take action?

Btw, I did not check "I love it❤️" at top. Your site defaulted to that.

Owner's Response: Everyone who has stayed in our house this summer (five separate clients) had no issue with the construction in our neighborhood.  We offered a full refund and to help relocate this tenant when he arrived threatening us with a lawsuit. (There are plenty of places to stay in Rockport). We offered a free night and to pro-rate the week if he decided to leave at any point, because of the construction, which he did not do.  He chose to stay, and never contacted us with the issues until now, by posting this very toxic and overblown reaction. We find it truly ironic to learn this tenant teaches college with an area of expertise in conflict resolution given his hostile behavior toward us and unwillingness to work out a solution.

Charming

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Susan's as a family of 6 adults and 4 kids. It was spacious, and absolutely charming. Extremely kid friendly, with games, kids bikes in the shed, and bunk beds. We very comfortably slept 10. The view is absolutely gorgeous of the twin lighthouses, and all of the neighbors are friendly. We can't wait to go back next year!

Great views and location, comfortable home

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time here! The home has a wonderful large wrap around porch with a great view. The balcony has an even better view! Enough parking for our large family reunion. A good place to stay with kids. The little cousins in our group spent hours playing in the kid's room and outside in the magical back yard. Two of our group used the kayaks on a calm day. The bikes came in handy for getting into a crowded Rockport center on the day of a festival. The adults enjoyed an evening by the fire pit.

The highlight was having a fantastic lobster boil and clambake at the home. Ask the owner about her neighbor the lobsterman. He set us up with over a dozen lobsters for a really great price.

The home is charming and quirky and comfortable. It has a relaxed vibe. I would stay here again!
