About Jan and Fred Sallah
We are native New Englanders who have settled in our retirement home on a lovely private lake in New Hampshire. Having retired in 2005, we decided we needed a cabin closer to our three children who live in Virginia and Tennessee. We were fortunate to stumble upon this wonderful cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains that had just been built. The four wonderful winters we have spent there have allowed us to enjoy the winter sports in the area and the milder climate. We share our special place in the mountains in the spring, summer and fall. Enjoy!
Jan and Fred Sallah purchased this Cabin in 2005
What makes this Cabin unique
Nature is apparent all around the cabin and since we love the outdoors, this was an ideal location for us. We enjoy bird watching, hiking and just relaxing in the solitude of the mountains. This cabin has given us a perfect opportunity to enjoy all of this.

What a Relief!!
We stayed here to escape the hurricane and cannot thank Fred and Jan enough!! The place was beautiful and well kept and the perfect place to take our mind off of the storm. Great and MUCH NEEDED vacation.
We were happy that we had availability and a cabin ready to rent! Hurricane Irma was a disastrous event for Florida and the Caribbean so we were glad we had a refuge for you!
Wonderful Birthday Weekemd!
What a wonderful place! The owners thought of everything we needed for cooking our meals. The deck with the hot tub was fantastic! The cabin is tastefully decorated, giving it that relaxed home feel. It was a great place to celebrate my 55th birthday with my family. If you are looking for some peace and relaxation..this is definitely the place to go!
Loved the cabin. Had a bit of rain and would have loved to be able to sit on the deck. Maybe think about a cover over part of the deck. Thanks a lot for a wonderful stay!
Thanks for the idea; we have thought about such a thing but are concerned that it would darken the bright sunny interior.

Perfect home, perfect views, perfectly appointed!!!
Spent four days in this lovely home with another couple! We hiked, fished, explored the small towns...enjoyed shopping at Mast General Store...visited Linville Falls and Grandfathers Mountain!!! Every night we enjoyed a great dinner on the deck with the beautiful mountain vistas! Temperatures were great! Even with a little aftermath of Hurricane Cindy! Thank you Fred and Jan for providing such a perfectly appointed home!
Always happy when renters enjoy the beauty of the mountains from our special spot!
Great Place to Stay!
Cabin has a great view, loved sitting on the deck in the early morning. Plenty of room, the owners keep the cabin well stocked for anything you might need. Very clean, felt very at home in the cabin. Owners have a nice three ring binder on local sights, events, and hiking trails. Our kids got a kick out of the raccoon tracks on the car hood in the mornings, they also spotted two deer in the woods after an afternoon rain event. We hope to return next year.
Wonderful cabin! Feels like home!
We had a wonderful stay in Fred and Jan's cabin when we were in town for Appalachian State graduation. The cabin is about 20-25 minutes from both Boone and Banner Elk, so convenient for anything you want to do - visit ASU, go to Tweetsie, Grandfather Mountain, etc. Unfortunately, we had rather rainy, gloomy weather for most of the weekend. We didn't spend as much time outside as we had planned, but that just meant we had more time to appreciate this great home! It is stocked with everything you might possibly need - board games, videos, magazines, every kitchen tool or appliance you could dream of (crock pot, mixer, blender, spices, etc.). It was also perfectly cleaned and maintained. Fred and Jan have left detailed instructions, phone numbers, signs, and recommendations for anything you might need or any problem that might arise. We loved the hot tub and hammock and were out there any time weather permitted! We also made s'mores outside at the fire pit the one night we didn't have rain. I have stayed in many rental houses and condos, and I think this one ranks on top for how welcoming it is and how prepared it is for visitors. We would absolutely recommend this cabin to friends and/or stay here again! It deserves all of its 5 star ratings.
We are always looking for positive feedback and suggestions to improve our rental cabin. We appreciate your remarks and hope to have your return!
In the heart of the NC High Country, you can either drive a short distance to all the attractions in the area (Grandfather Mt. activities, shopping, the Tweetsie Railroad, Valle Crucis, summer concerts, craft shows, dining at some really good area restaurants, and of course, the Mast General Store), or you can simply walk out the front door for some good hiking right in your backyard (Tom's Knob)!!
