This rustic two bedroom cottage sleeps 6 with 1 full and 2 twin beds with futon in the living room. There is a full kitchen with gas stove and grill. One bath with shower. Heat is electric and wood stove located in living room. Comfortable deck that is literally steps to the tidal shores of peaceful Orcutt Harbor. Great for kayaking, beach combing and hiking. In season the owners offer fresh caught lobsters for purchase and renters can even catch mackerel right from the shore. Harbor seals are often spotted just off the shore and boats can be chartered from the local marina. Located miles from Holbrook Island Sanctuary and about an hour drive from Acadia National Park.
This property has been in the owner's family and passed down several generations. It was at one point a rental cottage for the former Breezemere Inn that was run by the family for many years. The beauty and peaceful setting provide a wonderful place to enjoy Maine and bring a family.
Second time we've stayed in this cottage. Again, it was wonderful. The view is hard to beat. I would be content to sit on the deck, or in the living room by the fire, and read for a week while watching the tide come and go with daily trips into town to Bucks Harbor Market for fresh fish to do on the grill every evening but there are a surprising number of fabulous places to eat within 20 or 30 minutes starting with Buck's next to the market about a 5 minute drive. Arborvine in Blue Hill, Aragosta in Stonnington. All 3 amazing cuisine. And there are places for lobster rolls etc. all around. Living in the quiet retreat on the harbor with gormet dining a short drive away... the best of both worlds!
Breezemere cottage was exactly as advertised and perfect for our stay. It had all we needed. It's a small, no frills place but that adds to the atmosphere. While it's not fitted for people with disabilities, for my elderly mother on a cane, it was fine.
While small, we had dinner guests & entertained a couple of times and though crowded one night due to the rains & being unable to use the deck, it was fine. No 'mod-cons' to speak of but quite functional.
The deck/front porch is wonderful for early morning coffee, mid-day reading & early evening drinks as you watch the tide come & go. I confess, I could have done nothing else for a week or so but to sit there, or at the table looking through the front window, & been perfectly content. The view across Orcutt Harbor is wonderful. The Harbor Seals playing 20 yards from my chair in the mornings were great. The neighbor's dog, I really am not sure to which house he belonged, who walked with you down the road and came to visit was wonderful. The neighbor across the estuary who walked across one morning at low tide to greet me & welcome us took me back to childhood summers in small towns with friendly people. All of this together made it a fabulous experience.
For most of the time there were 3 of us staying but we did have 4 for 4 nights and while the cabin will sleep 6, with one bathroom you really need to be close & get on well to do that. It was fine for us.
Inspite of the crazyness of a wedding weekend, it gave us plenty of relaxation.
I will confess that the location was, for us, perfect and was our major reason for choosing it. It's located across the harbor (we could see their place from Breezemere cottage & vice versa) the friends were hosting our wedding in their garden & just across the cove on the other side from where the reception was.
But, even if that's not happening on your vacation, it's a perfect little spot to go, relax and enjoy some nature.
I would highly recomend Breezemere Cottage for a get away place & we're looking forward to staying again.
