Surfer's Bungalow

  • 2 of 5

This is a cute bungalow; however, we were disappointed with how sparse it was. It would be perfect for a few surfers, who would just need a place to crash for the night. It is a well kept property; however, we found the kitchen to be ill equipped. NO basic items such as saran wrap, sugar, spices, extra plates (3 place settings) or extra containers to store leftovers. We are very experienced VRBO travelers, and this was one of the sparsest places we've encountered. I would guess most people are traveling from the mainland to Hawaii, and not bringing much with them in terms of kitchen stuff; and not overly excited about needing to buy all the basics. There was an art fair the weekend we arrived, and the 9 mile drive north of town was VERY SLOW on a two lane country road. Traffic ran most of the nights. With no AC, windows did allow for a breeze at night; however, the traffic noise was heard. Chickens awaken around 5am. They were tolerable when we got used to them. Also, BBQ didn't light, and no matches or lighter available. We noticed emergency candles; but, no way to light them. Tried to contact both emergency numbers to ask about help with grill; but, neither person answered their cell phone (one's mailbox wasn't set up, the other just didn't answer). We had no emergency, just wanted to ask a question. Not sure what we would have done if we'd had a true emergency. On a positive note, we loved the beach, and surrounding area. Loved the Shrimp Trucks and Ted's bakery! Next time we will likely stay closer to town, rather than deal with the traffic.

Owner's Response: I am really sorry to hear that you had some issues at the property. We already contact the cleaners to make sure won't happen again. We are also studying a kitchen renovation. I hope we have a chance to redeem our selfies and host you again next time.

North Shore Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Great location and property. Bikes and beach toys were a welcomed bonus. Grill, washer and dryer worked perfectly.

TV was a little tricky but who visits the North shore to watch TV. Watch out some of the deck boards are a little far apart and deck chairs can fall into the slats. My wife helped me after she was done laughing. Construction traffic at times but that is because they are replacing a bridge in the area; minor distraction that should be finished soon

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review and the heads ups. We already fixed the lanai deck. Aloha

Beautiful private cottage. Great location across street from Sunset Beach access.

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed with a complimentary box of macadamia chocolates waiting for us when we arrived and felt at home during our entire stay. It was exactly as advertised. Wonderful location, private, well-equipped and very clean. They have done a fabulous job of renovating this historic cottage, and it's even more spacious in person than it appears in the pictures. Loved having the extra amenities, such as snorkel gear and bikes, which we rode daily on the bike path across the street to the surf breaks to check waves and all the way to Shark's Cove for snorkeling. Perfect location to access all of North Shore. Very short walk to Sunset Beach and Ted's Bakery. We walked there many times. Wonderful food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Generous portions and reasonable prices. The Pillbox hike access at the elementary school is right down the road. The hike takes you to an amazing view of the entire North Shore. This was our first visit to Hawaii, and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Anderson was very easy to work when making reservations, the price was very reasonable and the house felt like home away from home.
