About Tony Cooley

Our family purchased the Cabin in 1954. During a freak snowstorm in 1996 a tree fell on the unoccupied cabin, dislodged the propane water heater and started a fire. The cabin as it stands today was completed in 1998.

Why Tony Cooley chose Yosemite Area

Wawona is one of those special places where change happens slowly, rare in today’s world. Those that visit recognize this and make a point to return. We feel fortunate to hold a part of this special place and enjoy sharing and introducing others to Wawona.

What makes this cabin unique

The high, pine paneled vaulted ceilings, the dramatic rock fireplace, the large sunny deck, the relaxed pace of Wawona, the river. Often people come to see Yosemite yet never leave Wawona, Sometimes people come to see Wawona and never leave the Wawona Cabin.

Away from the crowds

  • 5 of 5

Loved this cabin, and loved being away from the heavy tourist crowds of Yosemite Valley.

Ample space to spread out, with 4 adults and 2 kids. Back deck was great- It's is all secured, so my 3 year old could play outside without me having to stress.

My father loved the rocker recliners and clean BBQ.

Wishing walking distance to a well stocked market and several swimming spots.

Cozy cabin inside of Yosemite NP (Wawona)

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the cabin, it was a perfect amount of space for two adults and one teenager. The spacious deck was a plus, we enjoyed some dinners out there once it cooled off in the evening. It took us about 45 minutes to drive to Yosemite Valley from the cabin, when there was no traffic. The reason I didn't give the cabin 5 stars is that some features seemed dated and like they could use some upgrading. For example, the furniture (chairs, couch, beds) while comfortable, seemed worn and in need of replacement. Also, the 2nd bathroom does not have a shower (only a whirlpool tub) which was a disappointment. Not all of the burners on the stove worked, which was a problem for making dinners. The people at the Redwoods Management office (right down the road) were very helpful and friendly, which was a plus. Also, the river is very accessible via a short walk from the cabin for hiking and relaxing. We also appreciated the well-stocked mini-market, a short drive from the cabin. We would stay here again if ever in the area.

Clean, Quiet and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This property was easy to find, very clean and spacious. Large deck with multiple seating options and grill. Kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, etc. Careful to be sure the stovetop burners are off - they're a little tricky. Great place to stay.

Comfortable, quiet cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

Other cabins are nearby, but the location is peaceful and a short walk from the river and the laundry. The general store (small, with only the essentials) is a few hundred yards further. The cabin was well-equipped, spacious and ideal for two couples - an evening drink on the deck with the birds was delightful. Best of all is the proximity to one of the best hikes in Yosemite - to Upper Chilnualna Falls.

Great location, lots of space

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this cabin for 4 nights. It's very conveniently located inside the park in the small, quiet community of Wawona. From here you have great access to all the nearby sites without having to deal with the traffic of those who drive in every day. The cabin is within 10-15 minutes of some great walks and sites and also a 45 minute drive to the main valley floor. It is well stocked with cooking implements and everything you need for a good barbecue along with a huge deck and a large living room. Would definitely recommend it.

Yosemite getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I decided to head up to Yosemite for a last minute trip. This cabin was the perfect place, cozy and inside the park. About 40-45 minutes to the valley floor. Tony, the owner was quick to respond and very accommodating. We had a great time and can't wait to come back next time!
