STONEHURST. A brand new, all stone house at the water's edge with a 2,700 sf deck separating you from the beach. When the window candles automatically light at dinnertime, it's time to totally relax from a day of kayaking, clam digging, agate collecting walks or touring the state capitol building, visiting the farmer's market or other highlights of Olympia. Perhaps you'll walk four blocks to the Boston Harbor Marina for their evening wine on the deck gathering or to buy fresh crab to bring back to your own wine on the deck little party. We eat crab at the deck rail and toss the shells back to the beach!
This unique house includes a huge copper tub for two in the master bath, an office (if you must work!), a third floor sleeping quarters (one double, two twins). The third floor also includes a game table and tv (Roku only), as well as a skylight for daydreaming when you're not enjoying the sounds of the water and the panoramic view.
All the beds have down featherbeds as well as down comforters and pillows. The floors are circle sawed fir from Montana furnished with hand-picked oriental rugs. All the headboards are antiques, as are the bathroom vanities (former buffet pieces). The master bath is cararra marble throughout with a custom mural in the shower, the second bath is travertine and delft tiles from Holland. The powder rooms (2) each feature special sinks, one an antique Limoge. All the sinks in the house are special, some handpainted.
The second floor has a full bathroom, one queen bedroom, one king bedroom, an office and hallway coffee center at the library. The bedrooms have Roku service. The private office has a spectacular view of Dana Passage, antique desk and cable tv. The office is also designed as a midnight get-away for night-owls who can't sleep or for early birds. Just close the glass-paned door.
The first floor seats ten in comfortable seating. The dutch door opens large to the deck where you'll watch the summer sunset and the Olympic mountains fade to shadows. The antique lion head table extends to seat 12, but that's a push. Comfortable seating for six in wingbacked chairs is the usual set up. From the comfort of the table, you can enjoy the fire, watch tv, keep track of the sailboat races and the tugs, or play games like we do. There are several games in the cupboard!
We've installed the Sonos music system, so you'll want to download the app before you come. Also, in the interest of patient outcomes, we need to insist that the deck speakers be turned very low, or better would be off, after 10pm so the heart surgeon across the street can get sleep. Also, the group will need to quiet down, too. We'll let you know when he retires and this rule can be lifted!
Gas BBQ available.
The deck is big and suited to summer parties, but unless other arrangements are made in advance (for which there would be different pricing and insurance requirements), the total number of people on the property at any time, day or night, is limited to (10)ten.
You'll be struck by the personality of the house from minute one. The fenced English entrance garden includes a concrete chess board which is game-ready. This is possibly the most charming home in all of Boston Harbor, and it's now available for short term rental to those who appreciate old-world craftsmanshp, cozy charm and the seaside renewal that comes with this wonderful location.
