Our newly renovated cottage has large deck and a screened porch facing the water as well as a large private yard. The living, dining and
outside areas flow together easily so you can always look out to watch the boats passing by. Our guests enjoy have their meals inside or on the screened porch. The lot is quite private as the house turns away from the road so you enjoy a quiet summer evening.
The property sleeps 6 people and we permit gatherings of friends of no more than 10-12.
Should you choose to visit in the spring or fall you will enjoy our heat and insulation.
We also have both a ramp and stairs so our one story cottage is very accessible.
We have three bedrooms, one queen bed, one full bed and set of bunk beds.
Sunset Cottage is well located, only a 10 minute walk to the ferry, cafes, library, grocery store or ice cream store and school playground for the kids.
The renovations have preserved the charm but added a new tiled tub/shower, tiled entrance, more closets, updated kitchen and the third bedroom. Everything has been designed to enhance a family holiday.
Our family has enjoyed summers on Peaks Island since 1880. We own several properties and enjoy renting them to people discovering Peaks for the first time or returning to enjoy their family tradition.
Jean Gulliver purchased this cottage in 2014
Excellent location, well maintained, beauty and privacy.
All one floor living accessed by both stairs or a ramp.
This cottage was so meant for me to rent.
Being on the Isand for my granddaughter wedding was just beautiful.
Jean and John were just wonderful,
When talking to Jean about renting two cottages she suggested I would be more conformable in this one , because I have a bad back and need a cane to help me.
It has a ramp on the back entry, only 5 steps in the front and walking distance to the beach.
I really can't say enough about both places my family and I stay.
So ,if you want clean, and everything you need to make your vacation the best time, you need to rent from Jean and John.
Thanks you guys for making a family wedding and vacation so special.

We travelled to Peaks Island for our nephews wedding. Sunset Cottage was perfectly located with great sight lines to the water. It was also within walking distance to all shops and restaurants. The owners were very helpful and any questions we had were answered in a timely fashion.
This cottage was so nice and clean and prepared so nicely when I got there it felt like home the view is amazing the sun pourch I loved being able to eat outside we will definitely rent it again !!
We can't say enough good things about this house. We were on the island for a friends wedding and at first rented another home the same owners have. Jean graciously called me prior to our stay to offer us this house instead since it had heat. The house is immaculately clean. Plenty of supplies in the kitchen and blankets and pillows. Lovely screened-in porch and deck that has a great water view. We were busy with wedding preparations so we didn't get to enjoy the house enough, but it has a large yard that would be great for kids. The house is only about a 10 minute walk from the ferry and is in a great location. My husband and I are already talking about renting it again with friends. House would sleep 6 comfortably. Everything about our stay was flawless. Wifi was easy to connect, nice newer tv. My teenage kids actually played one of the board games and enjoyed it. The hosts were fabulous. Pleasant and easy to deal with. Very pleasurable experience. We will be back!
This was a great little cottage we stayed at for a weekend wedding. We live in Maine and have never been to Peaks Island, staying here was the perfect little spot. We stayed here with two other couples for a weekend wedding, wasn't bad at all . Jean walked me thru everything we needed, she was wonderful!!
The spot is nice an quiet ,pretty view, and just a short walk to a beautiful beach ,
My husband and I plan to go back again by ourselves to stay, it was awesome.
Thank you so much Jean for everything.
IT WAS A GREAT TIME !!
We stayed in the cottage for 1 week at the end of July. The cottage is well equipped and although it is not right on the water there is still and excellent view from the back deck and the beach is a very short walk out the back door (the water temp was chilly but remember you are in Maine and not Florida but we still enjoyed going swimming in the ocean). The cotttage has a very nice screened in porch where we ate most of our meals. The kitchen has no diskwasher but has everything else including cofee maker with a supply of paper filters, salt n pepper and a few basic spices. The bedrooms had adequate storage and overall the cottage is very clean and well maintained. There is a basement room that you access from the back of the house with a washing machine but no dryer.
Peaks island made for a nice relaxed style vacation away from the city. We brought our car over on the ferry but just parked it for the week and rented bikes from the local bikeshop. We were able to negotiated a deal for 4 bikes for the week. We also went on a guided kayaking tour out to an old civil war fort in the middle of Casco Bay. We also really enjoyed biking around the island which we did several times as it has amazing views with more rugged coastline on the far side. Peaks island has a fairly well stocked Grocery store but they tend to run low on some items Sunday and Monday as they get there new stock on tuesday. We ate out at the island cafe and the island house and both were enjoyable but not outstanding. One of the best features of Peaks island for me was that you could go down to a small lobster shack at the dock where the ferry comes in and buy live lobsters. We went 3 times to buy some and cooked them in seawater, delicious!. The cottage has a large lobster pot for cooking the beasts!
At the same time the city of Portland is only a 20min ferry ride away and we made several daytrips to see the Portland waterfront and we also went to the portland Seadogs, the local minor baseballl farm team for the Boston redsocks. A very nice summer night activity.
Overall I really recommend the cottage and peaks island. The cottage owners Jean and John were very hospitable met us on the first day to make sure we were settled in.
