Newly constructed in 2013! Two Bedroom/One Bathroom cabin on Wilson Lake, which is part of the 4 lake chain in Phillips, consisting of Long Lake, Elk Lake, Wilson Lake, and Lake Duroy. Cabin has a nice corner wood stove with stone accent and cedar mantle. Bedroom 1 has a double bed, Bedroom 2 has two twin beds, and a rollaway bed is available, to accommodate up to 5 guests. Kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, utensils, dishes, etc. Bedding and towels (1 per person) are included. Large covered porch overlooks the lake, and there is nice boardwalk from the cabin to the water's edge, and on to the dock. Frontage is what is considered 'fisherman's frontage' and can get quite weedy in mid to late summer, but while it is not be suitable for swimming, there are several islands and beaches throughout the chain for swimming activities. Tie your boat to the dock, or take out the rowboat that is included in the rental. Please note that if you are bringing a boat, the bay can get a bit weedy, and a flat bottom, tri hull, smaller aluminum fishing boat, or even a pontoon would be best suited for this part of the lake. One may have trouble getting in with a deep V. Snowmobile trail is accessed right on the lake. ATV trails are nearby, as well as unlimited fishing on the chain. The chain offers a variety of fish, most notably Musky and Walleye. Crappie, bluegill, northern pike are also abundant. Waterfowl are always abundant. You can listen to the loons in the evening. You may even spot a pair of Swans. In the spring and fall, the lake is full of several different kinds of ducks and geese. Unlimited opportunities for grouse hunting, as well as turkey, deer and bear. There is a fire pit and a charcoal grill. Be sure to bring your own charcoal.
I have grown up doing many outdoor activities, and have been coming to the northwoods for hunting/fishing/leisure since I was a young child. I am a contractor by trade, a husband and a father.
Josh Gluege purchased this cabin in 2012
I purchased this property as an investment, and built the cabin over the winter of 2012/2013. I am happy to have it available so others can enjoy the northwoods as I do.
The cabin is secluded and located toward the end of a dead end road. Watching the waterfowl from the covered porch never gets old. It is not uncommon to hear ruffed grouse 'drumming' on the property. Loons can be seen and heard at just about any given time. Eagles are also common. At the end of a cold day of snowmobiling or ice fishing, come in and warm up by the fireplace. Or in the summer, sit out on the porch, and listen to the ball game on the radio after a good day out on the lake.
The house is located on a large beautiful lake. My son brought his paddle board and had fun exploring the lake and it's little islands. There is a nice large deck that faces the lake and there is a fire pit next to the house. We built a fire everyday that we were there. The owners left a rowboat for us to use which was nice. The house is just as described on VRBO. They have a nice wood burning stove that keeps the whole house nice and warm. The only drawback to our stay was the Master bedroom bed was uncomfortable and the couch was also saggy. There were also some electrical issues. You can't have too many lights on at one time.
There is a market that is close by that we bought groceries from. They have a red box outside the market and we got a movie to watch one night. They do have a theater in town but only one show plays at it. One day went to the State Park that is close by and hiked one of the trails. It was pretty. We also went to a restaurant called the Flambeau. If you go I would suggest sticking with the hamburgers. My husband and I ordered the chicken and fish and both dishes were not that great. We went mostly to see the interesting decor.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting an affordable fun little get away.
Great location for annual grouse camp with four guys enjoying the northwoods. Josh was great to work with, even making a last minute scheduling change a breeze. Cabin was clean and comfortable with great privacy. Woodburner great for chilly nights. Just need an upgrade on the mattresses and the place would be 5-stars.
The cabin was relatively new and very nice. Its location is convenient to Phillips Wisconsin and yet not too far from the coverts we desired to hunt. It gets good tv reception, but no wi-fi. The owner was easy to work with and very responsive. My only negative consideration is that the queen mattress in one bedroom had its best days long ago. I would stay again without reservation.
It was a great time! Very easy to get there and the place itself was exactly what we were hoping it would be.
It was extremely peaceful & a nice little cabin. Everything was described well on the posting. The only thing stopping me from giving it five stars is the beds. They weren't very comfortable. I also want to mention that unless you have verizon cell phones you will get absolutely no service. I actually enjoyed it since my mom couldn't sit on her facebook the whole time. Just wish I would have known prior to getting there. Luckily, the attendant at the gas station in town let me use their phone so I could call my house/pet sitter. We enjoyed our stay & only wished we had a few more days.
Cabin was nice and it was very clean. Josh was responsive and answered my questions quickly. Nice place for a couple just looking to get away. Phillips was a nice small town to visit. Fishing was not good, but I'm sure if you are willing to launch a boat at a nearby boat landing there are plenty of options. We were able to take the row boat out to less weedy water. Still didn't catch any fish, but enjoyed the view and the experience.
Price County Fair is held annually in Phillips. FlambeauRama is held annually in Park Falls, just a short drive north. Smith Rapids covered bridge is located just a short drive east. Unlimited numbers of local taverns and eateries. Local shopping. Ice races are held throughout the winter across the lake. Local fishing guides available. There are several small town historical museums, logging being the main industry.
