Why Sara Sasse' chose Northeast Portland

This home was my grandparents home where they lived for over 60 years. When my beloved grandmother passed over a decade ago, I spent a full year replacing things like the furnace, electrical and plumbing and completely remodeling to keep the 20's charm while giving it an updated look. I LOVE this home :) Fortunately it is also in a great location with easy access to everywhere that Portland and surrounding vicinities has to offer.

What makes this house unique

Cozy and comfortable with all the amenities including a fully stocked kitchen, fireplace, plush towels and linens and washer/dryer. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Lots of sunny windows, beautifully faux painted throughout with hardwood floors throughout and a fully fenced back yard and detached garage.

*Long term renters welcome ~ Discounted monthly rates with NO taxes! Shorter stays also allowed at a higher nightly rate. Ask for details!

Convenient Location With All The Comforts of Home

  • 5 of 5

We are well into two weeks of our monthlong stay in Portland, and were so fortunate to find this house, in a very quiet neighborhood, within one mile of our son’s home! At this point in time, while we still have two weeks left in our stay, I feel it is fair to give the property the glowing recommendation it deserves!

The Safeway supermarket/Walgreen’s pharmacy/Papa Murphy’s pizza, are all 1/2 mile from the house. We walk our dog to a nice park 4 blocks up the street. The Hollywood district is about 1.5 miles away, with a Whole Foods market, Grocery Outlet, and Trader Joes. Mount Tabor Park, where we walk the dog and hike, is an easy 3.6 miles away, and the Portland Airport is 3 miles away!

The home is charming. Bed linens are soft and bed is comfortable. Bath towels are soft and thick. Water pressure for the shower is great! We are doing a lot of cooking for the family, and the kitchen is very well equipped with both pantry staples and pots and pans! The crockpot was such a bonus when cooking for a crowd The Jenn-Air stove/oven, the refrigerator with pull out freezer and the multitude of knives, all made working in the kitchen a pleasure! We also appreciate the newer washer and dryer!

With the basketball tournaments in play while we are here, my husband appreciates the large screen television and access to all the important channels!

Thank you, Sara, for your quick response to any of our questions, your attention to detail with amenities, and for providing your lovely family home for our use!

The pictures look great, however...we were there for a month

  • 3 of 5

First of all I need to say that we enjoyed the neighborhood and the neighbors we met. Portland is a friendly city and the people are great! I am pretty much a neat freak and found the house on the dirty side. When I talked with the owner, she thanked me for leaving it so clean, I must admit that we really didn't have the time to clean the house before we left, but we did pick up and put the dirty sheets etc. in the clothes basket. I had to do some cleaning of various areas, (bathroom and kitchen mostly) there was an oder in the living room, it appeared to me that the sofas and chair could use a good cleaning. The backyard could be nice, except that it was covered in pinecones and there was more dust than grass, Yes, Portland hadn't had any rain for a month so things were dry, however the outside water was shut-off and therefore watering was made a bit difficult for the tomato plants and the flower pots in the front. (I used recycled water from my dogs water dish for both). The furniture and the beds are well used and a little on the need to be replaced soon list. There is air conditioning which came in handy the last few days as Portland heated up, but screens on the windows and one on the front door that worked would have been nice for all the other days that we were there when we kept the house opened to the cool morning and evening fresh air.

I feel like I am being a bit hard on the house, but I think that if the owner would like to have repeat visitors, they should try a little harder. If the owner uses a cleaning service, I would check them out more carefully because the house really needs a deep cleaning, (maybe we missed it?)

It is a nice property and was very close to a nice park where we walked our dog everyday. The neighborhood is wonderful to walk in and there is a golf course within walking distance, there is a nature path along side of the course with blackberry bushes to keep us going.

Many nice things and many nice people to be enjoyed.

Owner's Response: Dear Janet, You were there for an entire month yet never said once that you were unhappy about anything. I have a weekly yard maintenance crew and they do whatever guests ask for, as they did for you regarding raking up pine cones from the old-growth pine tree in the back yard. As with many vintage homes with vintage windows, most windows do open, just two do not. Portland had a heat wave with temperatures at 109, and the grass did turn brown but you were kept cool and comfy with the awesome A/C, which works best when windows are closed. You left me a note when you departed asking me to call, and I did. You then told me that you loved it, that it is a lovely home and that you hope to return soon and rent the home again. I don't understand why you would tell me one thing, and the online world something different. I appreciate guests who are open and honest with me, and I appreciate all feedback and suggestions.

Perfect Home for Transition to Portland

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for 3 months while searching for our home to buy. It served all of our needs perfectly. The home is cozy and comfortable in a nice quiet neighborhood, close-in, easy freeway access, walking distance to groceries, shops and restaurants. The kitchen is beautifully equipped and the internet and cable service are very good with TVs on both levels. We used the garage for extra storage.

The property owner contacted us right away to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed and let us know we could contact her at any time if we needed anything. How nice to have an attentive owner. We didn't see her or meet her, but it was nice to know she was around if the need arose.

We would highly recommend this property.

Great home to explore Portland!

  • 5 of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed spending a month in this super cute house. The house was very comfortable and well equipped for guests. Given the unseasonably hot weather in May, the air conditioning was much appreciated and the backyard was wonderful for evening relaxation. I worked from home during my stay and the internet was great - high speed and reliable. Sara upgraded the modem when I was there, and also ensured that basic cable was available through Comcast, so I was able to stay current with news and the local channels.

The neighborhood was great for me - as I went on walks every day. There is a public golf course close by, a park and a library. Access to get into downtown, to the airport or into the Hollywood district was extremely easy - both by car or through public transportation. I walked to the grocery store a number of times, as it didn't seem too far away.

Sara was super easy to work with and very responsive. I'd definitely stay here again.

Cozy and convenient

  • 4 of 5

Was in Portland for a month long working vacation during June and July. We really enjoyed the great central location. Sara even upgraded the cable for us! It was very dog friendly for us, since we had our bichon with us. We were able to experience all of what Portland has to offer. We even enjoyed the fresh raspberries and tomatoes growing in the back yard. Thank you, Sara

practically perfect

  • 4 of 5

We were in Portland for my daughter's wedding and needed a place for a few of us to stay that had a kitchen. This house is very charming and was almost perfect for us. The grocery store is very close, as is Whole Foods. It was very easy to get to the freeways and to downtown. You should know there is no cable (thus no nightly news or network channels). There is, however, Netflix, etc. The backyard was terrific. There is no chest of drawers or shelf in the bedrooms- I found myself always looking for a place to put my earrings and watch. Also, if you are a reader in bed like me, bring a clip on light for your book. Although there is an overhead light and a lamp that gives off a lovely glow, there is no reading light in any bedroom.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and loved our home & it's central location. We actually do have Comcast Cable, and if you had trouble figuring it out, we wish you would have called us, and we would have been happy to help you. The clothing drawers and shelves in the bedrooms are located inside the walk-in closets, and the nightstands adjacent to the beds have drawers, perfect for small items. The lamps in the living room are great for reading and can easily be unplugged and brought into the bedroom if that is where you would like them to be.
