We want to share our home with you! While we love our Okoboji home and our time spent on this lake with family and friends. We find we do not get to use the home more that 3-4 weeks each summer.
This year round home is located on the West Okoboji Harbor canal with a boardwalk extending along the entire canal. Easy access to lake by boat, bike trail runs past the house and parks, beaches and area attractions are a short drive.
Our home has 4 bedrooms and three bathrooms - arranged for space to have family time and personal space. It has beds for 8 and can accommodate family needs with the full size futon in lower family room and full hide-a-bed.
There is a fully equipped kitchen & dining area and sheets/towels provided.
Garage is full of water toys kayaks, and tubes. We have a huge yard for outdoor games and fun. Canal makes for easy kayaking and water play and for an addition fee our boat lift can be available for you to bring your own boat for easy access to West Lake Okoboji and all of the connecting Iowa Great Lakes.
Jeff and I, both Iowa natives, raised our three children in Wisconsin near Minneapolis/St Paul. We have loved to return each summer to my childhood hangouts on the beautiful blue waters of Lake Okoboji. Time on the lake - exploring and soaking in the sun, skiing, watching the regattas, biking the trails, restaurants, and Arnolds Park always have soft spots in our hearts and draw us back as often as possible.
Cindy Redmon purchased this house in 1982
My parents retired to Okoboji after spending years summers enjoying a small cabin! Fortunately Jeff and I have been able to keep the retirement home in the family which makes it a fabulous 'tender trap' to bring our extended generations home to reconnect. The harbor is perfect for us with great access to the lake. While the rest of our Wisconsin and Minnesota friends head 'North' to the lakes, we make no excuses for heading south to our most beautiful deep blue water Okoboji!!
Our home is unique in that it was the original farm home on this property in the 60-70's when the land was marshy and the harbor ... just a dream. MUCH has changed! The West Okoboji Harbor is beautiful addition to the area, complete with boardwalk and clear channel. The home has been remodeled a couple times and updated a bit more recently. As the original property, we have a huge yard and our own well.
We stayed in Okaboji for my sister's wedding in Spirit Lake. We were really glad to find a house to rent, and didn't have to stay in Hotel for a week.
The house was comfortable and slept everyone that we needed (all of my siblings and their significant others). The AC was awesome, and the location was perfect. It was nice to walk on the private boardwalk behind the house.
I set out to have a family vacation somewhere more relaxing and removed from the daily stress of being at home. This was the perfect place. The house is huge and allowed everyone enough space to have some privacy while still being together. We enjoyed the kayaks and bikes very much. I highly recommend kayaking out to the lake to catch a sunset and trying to bike all the way around the lake (an adventure indeed- bring your phone with Google Maps just in case!). We grilled out and spent a lot of enjoyable evenings on the deck. We also passed many sunny afternoons laying by the boardwalk on the canal and taking an occasional dip in the canal to cool off. Cindy is lovely to communicate with and everything went very smoothly. This is the perfect place to feel at home but leave the stress of home behind.
The property was somewhat dated but clean and very close to the canal that takes you to Lake Okoboji. We didn't have/bring a boat and that would have made our vacation more fun. We played several rounds of golf, rented a boat one day, took many long walks along the boardwalk and generally had a very relaxing week. I would say the BR set-ups are somewhat lacking, as well as the age of the home, but we made the most of it. We tried to leave your house in a better state than we found it. We did lots of puttering in the yard, picking weeds and other helpful things. That is what a lakeshore home is, and we did enjoy ourselves. Thank you Cindy and Jeff!
I had a great experience using VRBO for the first time. Cindy and her family were excellent with all aspects of this stay. accommodations were very nice they had plenty of things at the house to use. it was just like going and staying at familys home. I would highly recommend you booking a stay at okoboji with Cindy
