About the property

3 Bedroom, 2-1/2 Bath With Waterfall & Stream Views From Every Room & Deck

Extremely private and quiet fully appointed home with your own breathtaking 35-foot wide, 40-foot cascading waterfall. The falls cascade into a rushing 30-foot wide mountain stream that meanders towards your 2-level balcony and gently turns downward just steps from your home. This gem of a residence is hidden out of sight in Laurel Falls, a private gated community of multi-acre, private homes.

This is the owner's 2nd home. Therefore, the house is detailed, furnished and maintained as such. We hope you, too, will enjoy the comfort of our home and make memories you will cherish forever.

The main level enters from a covered carport, into an open great room with a large stone & reclaimed barn-wood fireplace. The great room provides plenty of entertainment: a tournament size pool table, felt lined game table, leather couches & chairs, with a flat screen TV, DVD, streaming your favorites on our high speed wireless internet. The kitchen is well equipped with electric appliances and a 3-seat breakfast area bar. The dining room table and beautifully upholstered chairs include views of the waterfall, stream and upper balcony. Walking out onto the balcony, you will be in awe of the spectacular natural waterfall and its rushing mountain stream, both of which can be seen from every room of the house. The deck also includes very comfortable padded furniture, views of the forest and streams on all 3 sides, plus a Ducane gas grill for the perfect family meal.

Going downstairs leads you to The Master Suite, with a private gas fireplace, a private walk in closet, vanity sink and separate shower. Two cozy guest bedrooms, both with direct views of the waterfall: one with queen and the other with 2 double beds. The master and one of the bedrooms open to the wide open balcony and it’s new, 6-person hot tub… all facing the forest, waterfall, stream and endless nighttime star gazing.

Natural stone walkway leads from the house to your private natural stream side fire pit. Many-a-trout has been caught by fly in your private stream. Wading boots and walking sticks provided for stream wading, hiking and (if you’re bold) showering under the waterfall!

Three mountain bikes available upon request. Within biking distance is the trail head entry to Panthertown trails. Many other hiking and biking trail locations available by short car ride.

Local Property Management and Maintenance always available on call.

Remote location requires some driving on a winding mountain gravel road.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Ann! Just wanted to thank you again for the use of your house! I can’t begin to tell you what a great time my kids and I had that week! We loved the house and it’s setting! Being in the mountains and having the creek & waterfall & swimming hole in the “backyard” was magical, and a wonderful experience for my kids & I (and our dogs……they had a blast too!) Kids loved having a pool table and a card table and both were utilized daily. The hot tub was relaxing after a day of hiking, and sitting in it with the falls in full view was wonderful! I loved the fact that the kids couldn’t text and had to verbally communicate amongst themselves & with friends….oh the horror!! ☺ Please say hello to Steve for us…..he was a pleasure to deal with and his knowledge & advice on the house & area was a huge help to us! I trust that he found the house in fine shape on our departure date?? We made sure to keep it clean and tidy, we vacuumed daily and did all the dishes & laundry before we left. We managed to squeeze a lot into the week we were there. We hiked and saw many waterfalls that week. Some that we visited were Turtle back, Dry, Laurel, Silver Run, Rainbow, Sliding Rock, Hickory Nut, Looking glass, Drift, Cullasaja, Bridal Veil and 5 or 6 others. We also rented a tritoon boat on Lake Glenville, along with a tube, and had a blast pulling the kids around the lake! We beached the boat on one of the islands and ate lunch & swam in the lake…..dogs too!! Also saw a Bald eagle at the lake…..what a beautiful bird it was, and was our 1st time seeing one in the wild! A great experience! We went to Cherokee and saw “Unto These Hills” and was very impressed ( and saddened) by the presentation of the Cherokee history! Also went to Chimney Rock Park….that was beautiful!! We went to the GSM National Park too, and saw 3 Elk, which was the 1st time we saw them in the wild……..what impressive creatures they are too! We also saw deer, mostly driving up the gravel roads to your home! No bear or mountain lions or rattle snakes, but we aren’t complaining about that! ☺ We ate out 2x, and the other nights we cooked or BBQ’d at the house! Very cool cooking on the deck and listening to the sound of the waterfall. Kids and dogs swam in the creek while I cooked, and then I utilized the bell on the deck to call them in.

A memorable Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and our 2 dogs spent a glorious Thanksgiving week in Great Falls Retreat - it was just what we needed to unwind from our busy lives. The cabin is well appointed - we were very comfortable and loved being able to view and hear the amazing waterfall from all the windows at the back. The kitchen is well appointed - we cooked our Thanksgiving meal in it and had everything we needed. It was great having a wood burning fireplace - my husband kept us 'toasty' while we played pool and watched movies (the only problem we had was that we couldn't watch HBO Go due to slow streaming speed - but it didn't matter as most of the time we found ourselves just gazing out at the waterfall - or relaxing in the hot tub). We took long walks from the cabin, which the dogs thoroughly enjoyed- and saw very few cars - but did see deer. We went into Cashiers for our groceries (Ingles), and spent a day in Brevard - other than that we just enjoyed the cabin, garden and waterfall. We came back to Florida revitalized and refreshed. We are hoping to return to the cabin in the summer and bring our son so that he can see and enjoy the waterfall as much as we did.

Ann, the owner, was great at communicating and was easy to work with, and Steve who managed the property was very helpful, and seemed very concerned that we were happy with everything.

Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise with us - we can't wait to go back !!

The perfect combonation of seclusion and convenience! Comfortable, clean, and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We came to hike, see waterfalls, and view the total eclipse. The waterfall in the property's back yard, rivals any that we saw during the week! The entire property was gorgeous, and tranquil. As soon as you get to the house you feel like you've arrived in another world.

The house was spacious and comfortable. We had 2 families of 4, and had more than enough space for us all.

I can't recommend this place highly enough! It was our best vacation ever!

Absolutely amazing! A destination on its own!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough positive things about this property. The owners and property manager were welcoming and responsive. The pictures of the waterfall do NOT do it justice - it's huge! My kids had a blast exploring the streams and waterfall. The downstairs where the bedrooms are located was newly carpeted in the fluffiest carpet you can imagine. The beds are very comfy, and the bedrooms are nicely decorated and relaxing. The top deck, off of the living space and kitchen, doesn't have stairs, so our dogs spent a good amount of time between excursions able to relax on their own outside - next best thing to a fenced area. The pool tables were used daily, and there are plenty of maps of the area, fishing poles to borrow, games, and even a couple (very nice!) mountain bikes. The hot tub was an excellent way to soothe those aching muscles from hiking. There is no cell reception, but there is a landline so we were able to give family members a number in case of emergency, as well as reach the property manager to let him know we arrived. There is also wifi and a Firestick for guest use. Yes, the goal is to be unplugged, but it was nice to watch a couple movies as a family at night to unwind.

We had plans to travel the surrounding area, but decided to stay at the property for all but a couple of days. This could easily be your base camp (plenty of waterfalls, fishing, hiking and climbing destinations, etc. a short drive away) or your destination. Enjoy the drive too - we spotted a couple of roadside waterfalls, deer, and even a bear!

Do be sure to print the directions the owner sends you and keep them in your car - they will take you on a couple turns your GPS will not, and you'll arrive much faster. There is also a gate code you'll want to have in the vehicle with you.

Amazing property!

  • 5 of 5

This is a rental with an amazing property!! The house itself is spacious and very clean. Our family enjoyed several fun pool tournaments! The river and waterfall are amazing! Our family spent hours playing in the water! With 4 kids from 10-15 it was perfect. The first two days we didn't even leave the house! They loved getting cold in the river and then warming up in the hot tub. This is the first time I ever felt like the hot tub, at a rental, was clean enough to use. The next coupe of days we did some great hikes at Whiteside, Panthertown and High Falls. This house is about 25 minutes to town but just stop at the store on the way into town. This rental is worth the extra drive to town!
