Special note to our future Guests:

In order to prevent VRBO from charging additional fees to our guests, we have not signed up for their online payment system. Despite pressure from VRBO we continue to refuse their demands that we add this feature because it will allow them to charge our guests an additional fee for the use of their website. We have rented our home to many travelers over the past 10 years using our own payment method and have never had a dissatisfied customer. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to give us a call.

About Jerry and Nancy Rabe

We met and fell in love while students at MTU back in the late 1970's. Jerry is from Lower Michigan, Nancy is from Ironwood. The natural beauty and serenity of the Keweenaw area captured our hearts during those early years. Several years later we returned with our young family for a week long stay in Eagle River. The cottage we rented was a bit of a dive, but we all had an absolutely wonderful time. We started dreaming of having a place a place of our own on Lake Superior. The 10 year plan for our cottage became the five year plan when the cottage was completed in 2006. We designed it as our Dream Home ... to be comfortable, cozy and easy to care for.

Jerry and Nancy Rabe purchased this house in 2005

Why Jerry and Nancy Rabe chose Michigan

We chose this property because of its location, beautiful setting and ease of building. We love that we can keep it open year round when we choose to. We love the shared beach area and our wonderful neighbors (who aren't too close!) We love sitting on the beach watching the waves change throughout the day and watching the sun set in the evening. We love being within minutes of everything the Keweenaw has to offer. The area has dug its hooks deeply into our souls. When we are away, we are constantly dreaming of our return.

What makes this house unique

The beach! The view! The smell of fresh air and cedar trees! Our sandy swimming area! Deer and fox, woodpeckers, loons and eagles! Freighters, fishing boats and sailboats! Kayaks and canoes! Falling asleep to the sound of the waves and catching the occasional northern light show.

Stunning views and home. Great location. Stay here if you can.

My son's Grandfather and I stayed the better part of a week at the home for my son's graduation.

The privacy of the beach is about perfect. We had bon fires a few different nights. Late April was chilly, but the sun sets and a smaller bon fire could not be beat.

The home is very nice. The living areas areas are beautiful, with the living, dinning and main bedroom having perfect views of the Lake.

The location was great split between Copper Harbor and Tech. We spent a fair amount of time in each location and as I remember it, they are each about a 20 minute drive.

I went to Tech and have traveled back to the UP for vacations for years. This is nicest home and has the most private beach of any place I have stayed at.

The owners were very responsive to calls and emails, and without question I will stay here again if I can.

Lovely home, spectacular location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, both in our 60's, spent a relaxing week in this spotless, comfortable home with a gorgeous view of Lake Superior, which is just steps away. The home has everything you need, including a second toilet in the basement. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds comfortable. As it was early October and chilly, the gas fireplace in the living room was warm and cheerful.

The owners are quick to respond to any question or problem and eager to ensure that guests are happy. We had difficulty setting the heat, and as soon as we contacted the owner, the problem was solved.

The main living area is upstairs, so this home is not recommended for those with mobility issues. While there were only two of us, the house would easily accommodate a family or group of friends.

The area is scenic and interesting, with numerous museums and informative billboards about the local history - mining, immigration, shipping, etc. The Keweenaw National Historical Park Visitor Center in Calumet is well worth a visit - but be sure to check on when it is open. The Keweenaw peninsula is gorgeous; Brockway Mountain Drive is not to be missed; Houghton has a wonderful Mineral Museum and is an attractive city. There are lovely homes and mansions left over from the mining and lumbering days. Laurium Manor Mansion tour is fascinating.

In Calumet we enjoyed the Michigan House Bar and Grill and the 5th and Elm Coffee House. In Houghton the Ambassador has great beer, decent food and a lovely view of the river. The best meal we had was at Fitzgerald's in Eagle River, where the dining room is right on Lake Superior. All in all we had a wonderful trip and were happy to return to this house. Highly recommend it!
