About Cristina and Michael

We are a family of 4 with two young boys and a friendly golden retriever who live for the outdoors. Myself, being born in the Philippines and my husband from Canada, we've always been worldly travelers making it our mission to visit a new place we've never been before each year.

Cristina and Michael purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Cristina and Michael chose Truckee

We are avid skiers and always dreamed of owning a mountain home to 'get away from it all,' but still be close enough to fun towns like Truckee and Squaw Valley so as to get the best of both worlds. After 18 months of searching, we found this perfect home.

What makes this cabin unique

Kibu's Cabin gives you the true mountainous feeling surrounded by redwoods with minimal exposure to neighboring cabins yet it's still close enough from great attractions. River Road is only used by local dog-friendly homeowners with dogs often come by to welcome all visitors.

Large private house

  • 4 of 5

My family really liked this home and the location along the river. It was very private and forested. The rock patio off the back deck is great. The living area up stairs was roomy and comfortable. Plenty of sleeping space and the kids room down stairs was perfect.

Perfect for us and our two small boys

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at this home in July. The kitchen had everything, even a vegetable steamer, so I was happy. My boys loved playing the Wii and PlayStation. Husband liked walking the dog up the hill behind and into the forest, for miles... Squaw valley fishing and hiking were also great. Easy to go anywhere from the location. Thank you!

Our stay was enjoyable. The home was comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

The house is very nice and we all enjoyed it. The location was perfect for us because we had family at Squaw Valley. The wooden stairs (outside) need work because they are not totally stable or safe. The owners responded to e-mails within two days but I found the whole RBO process a little nerve racking and impersonal (but hey, I'm 70). There was some pet hair around and the cleaners were finishing cleaning at 3pm on arrival day. John and Athena

A wonderful retreat by the river

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cabin for the week while we were training and racing at Ironman Lake Tahoe. The cabin is perfectly placed between Truckee and Tahoe city and a short distance from Olympic Village. The cabin is really clean, spacious, and nicely furnished. It was the perfect vacation spot and would recommend to anyone looking for a centrally located spacious home in the north Tahoe area.

Great quiet location close to Truckee

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at Kibu's Cabin and really enjoyed the experience. The owners were great, communication was really good, and they checked in via email to make sure all was OK. The cabin has pretty much everything you need and we cooked in every night for a hungry group. We cycled out of the cabin daily, waded in the Truckee river, and were very close to Truckee and Squaw Valley. Follow the owners directions as GPS will not find it, but we had no problems as they were quite detailed. The place was very clean, lots of sleeping space (4br, 2 rooms with bunks) has a hammock for the summer rentals, a fully stocked kitchen, and great living room to hang out. I highly recommend it, we hope to be back next year!

Cabin near the Truckee river

  • 3 of 5

We have just returned from a weekend at this 4 bedroom house near Truckee. It was a nice house in most ways, there were Two Baths one on each floor. The downstairs bath we had trouble getting the water hot enough to have a relaxing bath. The upstairs bath was large and nice and the water worked fine. The kitchen was large and had most things needed for cooking a meal. The bedrooms were good sized and the beds comfortable. The one thing that renters should be aware of is the long flights of stairs up to the house and the stairs inside it is quite a hike with all of your gear to get up to the kitchen, and living area. It is near the river but no close river spots, that we found anyway. The traffic noise from Hwy 89 is noticeable!
