About the property

Casa De Cata... Quiet, Comfortable, truly Memorable.

Just 75 steps up off the street, on Pasillo 37, Casa de Cata is located on a gated, private walkway and sits above neighboring houses with exceptional views of both city and mountains. It is a great location, just above the Embajadores market and an easy walk to the Jardin and Spanish language schools.

The top floor, includes a large fully equipped kitchen and dining space that is open to the living room and a kitchen garden. Lots of light and cross breezes.

The living room, including comfortable sitting area, entertainment center (with DVD library), fireplace and a small library... opens up to a covered terrace with spectacular views of the city. The top floor is at the same time both spacious and cozy.

There are two bedrooms off the 1st floor hallway. Each bedroom includes a small kitchen area and an en suite bathroom with natural light. There are are ceiling fans in every room. If you need more bedrooms, you can also rent the bachelor suite on the lower floor... it has a double bed as well as a trundle bed.

For longer stays, there is a washing machine just off the entrance with clothes line to the side of the house. Gas, water and electricity included.

This house is perfect for large families or couples traveling together. Because of the lower apartment (bachelors suite) and our other house next door, Casa Secreto is (3 bedrooms) we can accommodate groups up to 12 people.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I have just returned from spending a month in Casa de Cata, January 1 to Feb 1. It is a lovely, spacious, and comfortable home. We rented only the two bedroom part of the house but a third bedroom could also be rented. The view is stunning, WFI excellent, with a wonderful selection of movies available for relaxing after a day of shopping and exploring the beautiful city of Guanajuato. The home is huge, comfortable, with plenty of room for getting away from each other. Especially nice was a large bathroom for each bedroom plus a bathroom off of the kitchen/dining and living room area. The city is a city that loves fiesta’s, music, and fireworks. Another good thing about Casa de Cata is that when you close the sliding door to the deck, it goes quiet. The beds were very comfortable and my only complaint would be that we were only provided one blanket and a thin bedspread per bed. It would be fine most of the year, but during the winter months, at least during our stay, the temperature dropped to the 40’s at night and we had to purchase warmer sleeping wear as well as a couple of blankets.

My initial impression of the stairs up to Casa de Cata was, “oh my gawd” and remained so but seeing older women carrying their groceries, babies, and bread baskets on their heads, much further than I had to go, I just went with the flow. I must admit that I came home in better condition than when I left as a result of going up and down the stairs. The entire city is a city of stairwells and tunnels which is what makes it so interesting architecturally. The homes are stacked up the hills willy nilly and brightly colored. It is a city of color, noise, beauty, and friendly, happy people. There was never a moment of fear no matter the place or time we were out on the street.

The location is perfect and the walk to town is short and if you don’t wish to walk, the buses go everywhere for only 5 pesos. Also, you need not go far to get anything you need be it food, pharmacy, food stalls, restaurants, groceries, medical services or some of the best ice cream ever.

I highly recommend Casa de Cata as a place to stay while exploring the beautiful city of Guanajuato. You will never forget the people or place.

Beautiful property, great view, very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This is a very well equipped house with lots of traditional Mexican design touches but all the modern comforts. It's better in person than the photos indicate. Large bedrooms and bathrooms, an open kitchen and nice living area with lots of windows and nice breezes. And the view from the balcony is stunning. Be advised that it's a very steep climb up stone steps to get there, so if you're not in good shape or have physical limitations the climb will be daunting. Pack light. It's in a quieter part of the city about a 15-20 minute walk to the center of town, easy to catch a bus or cab from the main street below.

Great house in a wonderful neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The house and location were perfect for us. It's a lovely 3 story house with beautiful views, a well stocked kitchen, and plenty of space to sleep 5 or 6 people. The accommodations were quite comfortable, plus each room has its own bathroom. The wifi is good, I had a work emergency and was able to take care of it with no problems. A great house for a family, or even two or three couples to share, with each room having its own key. It is a bit of hike up the stairs to the house, but I enjoyed the exercise. You get used to it pretty quick. Martha, the house manager, is responsive and helpful.

The neighborhood is a great location. There are markets on the same block to buy basic necessities, milk, beer, fresh cheese, produce, etc. Pollo Feliz across the street is convenient and tasty. But the best food is in the nearby market, the Embajadores. It is less then a 10 minute walk, and the food options are really good. We had delicious ice cream, tacos al vapor (steamed tacos), pan (fresh bread), tlacoyos, chili rellenos, you name it. All the food is super affordable by US standards and is delicious.

Guanajuato itself is a lovely city. The people are friendly, and you can walk almost anywhere. We look forward to coming back!

Great vacation home!

  • 4 of 5

The house exceeded our expectations. Spacious bedrooms with their own bathrooms and lil kitchenettes. I thoroughly enjoyed the kitchen, fully equipped to cook at home. Great airflow and breeze when we opened all the windows (There is a small market down the street to buy fresh food). The living was very nice, my friends and I loved the balcony/terrace, beautiful view of Guanajuato. I would definitely stay there again.

Awesome house!

This house is beautiful & great! The bedrooms are very spacious with their own bathrooms. The living room and kitchen are very open and spacious! Plenty of room and the view is amazing! Plenty of hot water and great water pressure. Great for relaxing and cooking a meal with a big kitchen and with markets right across the street. Or you're just a 10 min walk from Plaza de la Paz for great shopping or a great meal!! The view from the balcony is amazing!! I felt very safe as well. I have already recommended this house to my family and friends!! Thank you Robert for taking care of us! We will definitely be back!!

A Wonderful Experience!

  • 5 of 5

A gorgeous property in a delightful city. The rooms were spacious and the view from the upstairs balcony is incredible. The bedrooms each had a full ensuite bath which was great as we were staying with family. The large dining area upstairs was fantastic for group dinners. The casa has all the amenities you could ever need or want. Walking distance from all major sightseeing locations and conveniently located on several bus routes. I definitely recommend renting here!
