About Fran Gowdy

I grew up in North Carolina and my husband grew up in Atlanta. We live and work in Cary, NC where we have raised our children. Even though we have beautiful mountains in N.C. I have fallen in love with the North Georgia Mountains. My husband started going to Lake Burton in the late 1950's as a young boy living in Atlanta. For the past 10 years we spent our family vacations in the North Georgia Mountains.

Fran Gowdy purchased this house in 2013

Why Fran Gowdy chose Northeast Mountains

When we found this property in the Spring of 2013 it was the perfect size and location for us. We love to hike, swim, go boating and antiquing, all of which can be done within 5 miles of The Nest. Since we purchased this property we been updating including a paved driveway and stone patio in the backyard. I have had a great time decorating and have made many trips to Scott's Antique Market and local antique stores for furnishings.

What makes this house unique

The reason we choose The Nest as the name of our mountain cottage is because of the definition. Nest: a place of retreat or refuge, a nurturing place. You will enjoy doing nothing while you are visiting or filling your days with many of the activities that the area has to offer.

The Nest for Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

My wife, infant son, in-laws, and I stayed at the Nest over the Thanksgiving holiday, and we loved it. It was a beautiful, well-furnished getaway that held all the comforts of home, only with better foliage surrounding us. The furnishings were all great (there are a bunch of bird lovers among us, so extra points for the various paintings), and we had plenty of space for everyone. All the accommodations were clean, well-maintained, and excellent. The binders full of info on local restaurants and attractions were also very helpful. We loved our visit and hope to return again :)

The Nest

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I traveled to Lake Burton for a wedding at the Waterfall Country Club. The Nest was a beautiful accommodation for us. It was not too far off the beaten path but it was a beautiful drive around the cabin. It also had a slight mountain view. When we arrived the cabin was breathtakingly beautiful on the outside and inside. All of the linens and decorations made the home feel cozy and warm. We definitely would come back again. Fran was also so easy to work with and made the entire experience very smooth.

The PERFECT Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent Thanksgiving at "The Nest" and made memories we will cherish for a lifetime. The owners are very kind people and are so easy to work with. Our week in this home was perfect in every way. The home is extremely clean and well-cared for. It has everything you might need and is a 10-15 minute drive from some fabulous hikes with amazing waterfalls. The owners provide information on the numerous things to do in this area including restaurants, pottery, outdoor activities, etc. However, you will be so comfortable and cozy, you might just want to curl up with a good book in their charming home or rock on the stone patio or sit on the front porch. The home is surrounded with beautiful forest and mountain views making it feel private, but you are close to many fun places. We spent a week there, but could have stayed much longer exploring the area. The house is beautifully decorated. You will love it!

"The Nest"

  • 5 of 5

If the beautiful drive from North Carolina to the N. Georgia mountains was any indication, I felt "The Nest" would not disappoint! The tastefully decorated cottage was comfortable, cozy and absolutely charming!! From the warmth of the fireplace to the breathtaking view from the porches, relaxation can be found in this well appointed cottage!

By all means, visit the local pottery shops and do not miss the Wolf Winery Vineyard for a delightful lunch!! Will definitely return for another relaxing and restful visit to "The Nest".

Beautiful Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a peaceful 4 day stay in this unique, wonderful "nest"! The owner's decorative skills are very evident as everything was so inviting and cozy. We enjoyed the outdoor Sunday service at Lake Burton so much as well as the Mountain Laurel Festival in Clarkesville. Another highlight of our trip was lunch at the Wolf Winery and Vineyard. We would definitely enjoy a return visit and highly recommend "The Nest"!
