This recently remodeled family home is just steps from downtown Marquette and Lake Superior. Walking distance to Northern Michigan University, the Superior Dome, the fit strip and farmers market. Marquette Mountain and Lake Superior can be seen from the living room.
Your Marquette vacation home has a full living room with couch and loveseat, comfy chair, HDTV with Chromecast and small dining area. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, full sized refrigerator, Keurig machine and microwave. Kitchen exits to side yard so you can easily let pets out into the fenced area.
Located upstairs two of the bedrooms and the bathroom. Bathroom has double vanity, brand new big fluffy towels and bathtub/shower. The master bedroom upstairs is newly finished (8/2016) with laminate flooring and upgraded queen bed and two closets. The second upstairs bedroom is a full bed with a single large closet and has laminate flooring.
The closet at the top of the stairs has a high chair, pack n' play, and baby gate for blocking off the stairs from pets or kids. Stairs and trim throughout are brand new varnished pine - very warm feeling.
Downstairs you have the main entry way which is sandstone colored tile. Great area for cleaning up snowy/muddy/fun covered dogs and kids before letting them loose. Just across from the laundry room behind french doors is the last bedroom with bunk-beds and desk.
Full laundry with washer and dryer is downstairs. The family room table seats 8 and is bench style with two head chairs. The family room has access to the yard through brand new patio doors.
Siding and all exterior windows are brand new - house has stayed toasty warm in one of the coldest Marquette winters on record.
A few other things to note:
- 50meg cable internet w. wifi
- LED HDTV with Chromecast
- fresh linens on site, plus extra in storage
- respectful renters only please, this is a home for us half the year not a Motel 6
- current local events guide on the living room table

- air mattress available
Grew up locally and went to school at NMU. I call Marquette and Chicago both home. I love Marquette for its memories and powerful outdoor connection. There's even a few old friends still around town.
Richard Holmes purchased this house in 2013
It's across the street from my Dad's house and allows me to visit and hang out pretty easily. Visiting with the dogs was always a pain to stay for more than a few days. This was a solution that was affordable without being extravagant, has room for a couple of friends to come too and you can walk to all the bars and restaurants without needing a DD. Big fenced back yard for the dogs. Problem solved.
Walking distance to everything downtown has (which is great, we're used to Chicago nightlife), is in town so it has really solid internet which means we can work remotely, close to the fit strip, lake, bike paths, grocery store.
We stayed with our three kids (2, 10 and 12) and our dog. The set up was perfect for us - the older kids had their space downstairs and we had plenty of room upstairs for the two adults and the toddler.
The location was great - but the hills are killers!!! (Especially with a stroller.) We were in town for the Ore to Shore mountain bike race and while the guys raced, my daughter and I did a lot of wandering. It was great being able to bring our dog with us on vacation as well - he enjoyed hiking and did a day at the local doggy daycare.
The beds were not the most comfortable, but not the worst I've slept on either. The kitchen was well-equipped for making dinner each night. Having laundry facilities is huge when traveling with children. The fenced yard was very much appreciated by our dog.
The only issue we had was with only one key, and two adults splitting up to go in different directions, remembering to put the key back in the box outside was an issue and we ended up locked out (husband said he put it back when he left with the boys, I left with my daughter and locked the door behind me, and then found out it was sitting on the kitchen table...) My suggestion would be to have two keys so each adult can have one (this may have been done already, though). But, the owner's family in town (owner lives out of town) were very helpful getting us back in. :)
We enjoyed our stay and the place worked perfect for us!
We had an excellent time renting this house for a long weekend. The layout of the house allowed for 5 of us to sleep more the comfortably and I loved the open layout of the living room and kitchen. We had a great time cooking and also took advantage of the new BBQ in the backyard and loved being able to let our dog in the yard while we grilled. While I only tried one bed, everyone else said their's were super comfy like mine. Shower and big bathroom were lovely. There is also a large dining room table in the basement which was perfect for big dinners.
The location is perfect. We walked downtown and checked out a few restaurants, shops and breweries. There were even growlers that we used to fill up with delicious beer at the Vierling! The owner was super easy to work with and the house was very clean when we arrived. So much to do around Marquette, I appreciated all the pamphlets showing where the waterfalls are! I will definitely be coming back next summer to stay here again!
Our stay here was good. The owner made booking easy, fast and was responsive to questions. The fenced yard made it awesome for our Great Dane, who loved the street view from he second floor windows as well. Upstairs space is nicely finished.
For the cost, in comparison to other places we have stayed, I think there are definitely improvements which could be made. The mattresses were awfully uncomfortable. The couches need replacing as well. The router needs to be somewhere in a closet, not out in the bedroom, on the floor.
Food left by the owner or previous renters should not be left behind or secured/limited to one cupboard.
Our stay was during one of the hottest weeks in August. While we do not think AC is needed, an additional fan for the living room and one more small fan for the other bedroom would have been appreciated. We weren't in the house much, but it would have helped particularly when trying to prepare food or falling asleep, before it cooled off.
Overall, it was a nice stay. The location to everything downtown (Food Co-op, Brewery, Sweetwater, Farmers Market, ice cream, book store, etc!) and fenced yard were the highlights. We would probably stay again if the improvements were made.
We lived in Marquette while I attended Graduate School and always love to return. This location is great because you really get the Marquette Experience. You are in walking distance to Downtown, 3rd Street Businesses, Lower Harbor with great proximity to the bike trail (which leads everywhere in Marquette). The house is, as advertised. It appears the owner has made several improvements over the past few years. Also, this place is great for a dog. Thank you Rick for opening your home to us. We had a great time and we hope to return next year!
What a beautiful town. This home was close to everything. We were only a few blocks from dining, shopping, night life and morning Mass at a beautiful St Peter's Cathedral. We vacationed with our 14 & 16 year old grandchildren and this home provided space for both of them. Thank you Richard for making this available.
Easy walk to downtown restaurants and attractions. Floor plan is not ideal as dining table is on lower level and kitchen is upstairs. There is no actual second bathroom but rather a toilet in the corner of the laundry/storage room. Furniture could use an update and stove needs a thorough cleaning. Owners accommodating and responsive to questions.
