About the property

3 bedroom, 1 bath, sleeps up to 6. Everything you need to feel right at home!

This recently remodeled family home is just steps from downtown Marquette and Lake Superior. Walking distance to Northern Michigan University, the Superior Dome, the fit strip and farmers market. Marquette Mountain and Lake Superior can be seen from the living room.

Your Marquette vacation home has a full living room with couch and loveseat, comfy chair, HDTV with Chromecast and small dining area. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, full sized refrigerator, Keurig machine and microwave. Kitchen exits to side yard so you can easily let pets out into the fenced area.

Located upstairs two of the bedrooms and the bathroom. Bathroom has double vanity, brand new big fluffy towels and bathtub/shower. The master bedroom upstairs is newly finished (8/2016) with laminate flooring and upgraded queen bed and two closets. The second upstairs bedroom is a full bed with a single large closet and has laminate flooring.

The closet at the top of the stairs has a high chair, pack n' play, and baby gate for blocking off the stairs from pets or kids. Stairs and trim throughout are brand new varnished pine - very warm feeling.

Downstairs you have the main entry way which is sandstone colored tile. Great area for cleaning up snowy/muddy/fun covered dogs and kids before letting them loose. Just across from the laundry room behind french doors is the last bedroom with bunk-beds and desk.

Full laundry with washer and dryer is downstairs. The family room table seats 8 and is bench style with two head chairs. The family room has access to the yard through brand new patio doors.

Siding and all exterior windows are brand new - house has stayed toasty warm in one of the coldest Marquette winters on record.

A few other things to note:

- 50meg cable internet w. wifi

- LED HDTV with Chromecast

- fresh linens on site, plus extra in storage

- respectful renters only please, this is a home for us half the year not a Motel 6

- current local events guide on the living room table

About Richard Holmes

Grew up locally and went to school at NMU. I call Marquette and Chicago both home. I love Marquette for its memories and powerful outdoor connection. There's even a few old friends still around town.

Richard Holmes purchased this house in 2013

Why Richard Holmes chose Upper Peninsula

It's across the street from my Dad's house and allows me to visit and hang out pretty easily. Visiting with the dogs was always a pain to stay for more than a few days. This was a solution that was affordable without being extravagant, has room for a couple of friends to come too and you can walk to all the bars and restaurants without needing a DD. Big fenced back yard for the dogs. Problem solved.

What makes this house unique

Walking distance to everything downtown has (which is great, we're used to Chicago nightlife), is in town so it has really solid internet which means we can work remotely, close to the fit strip, lake, bike paths, grocery store.

Perfect spot for a UP visit.

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. Having a dog, limits our travel options. The house is cute, very clean and in a great location. We were in walking distance from great restaurants, brewpubs, and shops. We would definitely stay here again. Having a dog, limited our lodging choices, so this was just what we needed.

Close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 (including twin boys) definitely made ourselves at home. The house was clean and tidy and we felt like we were at a friend's house. The house is close to everything and centrally located. Whether getting bagels in the morning to picking up growlers for the evening , everything was walkable and close. We are looking forward for our return visit!

Thank you! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in MQT at this house!

  • 4 of 5

The rental was clean and orderly. It is exceptionally close to the downtown area of Marquette, McCarty's Cove and within biking distance to the Presquile Island.

The amenities met our needs for the most part. Anything that we ran out of, we simply picked up at the store (garbage bags, dish soap, paper towel, etc.). The kitchen had plenty of cooking utensils and cutlery for a rental property to make breakfast, lunch and dinner if you wanted. The kitchen could use a few more useful items like mixing bowls, a whisk, additional spatulas, serving spoons, etc. Otherwise, we had no issues.

The backyard is broken up into two sections which is nice if you have pets. My only suggestion would be for more seating out there if possible. Perhaps a little table so you could sit outside at sunset, etc. There was a charcoal grill to cook on as well which was nice to be able to BBQ.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying here on our next visit into town. Thanks Rick!

Amazing NMU graduation weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We came from Kalamazoo and our other family members came from Menominee to celebrate our NMU graduate. This was perfect for us. So much better than getting a hotel. It gave us a family atmosphere allowing us to lounge together and cook together. A hotel would not have been able to provide us with this. The beds were comfortable, the house was clean, and it provided everything we could have asked for. It was within walking distance to downtown which was convenient. The only caution I would give future renters is to make sure the end of your car is not even close to the sidewalk. Parking is tight for 2 cars. We had been in town for a couple of hours and when my niece arrived (without noticing) she left her car slightly obstructing the sidewalk. One of the neighbors called the police and she was issued a 25.00 ticket for obstructing the sidewalk. It would have been nice of the neighbor to come over and talk to us, but instead seemed to take the extreme route. The owner, Richard, was very accommodating. He let us check in early and was prompt to address emails. Definitely would stay there again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the helpful feedback! I don't think it was our neighbors on the ticket. In the summer time since there is street parking the police are more aggressive about sidewalks being blocked.

A good value.

  • 4 of 5

A good deal for what we were looking for. We needed a place for five people and two dogs for three nights centrally located so my college bound daughter could visit NMU. This place got the job done. Nothing fancy, but very clean, functional, and comfortable.

Loved having my pooch with us!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely little home in the quaint downtown of Marquette. I was up in Marquette for work for the week and I always have to leave my dog behind. This was great to be able to bring our dog, cook our own meals and relax right in downtown Marquette. Kitchen is fully stocked to make all meals if you want. The living room with comfy furniture and the TV's streaming capability was awesome! Having the large blankets to place on the furniture for our dog to lay on the furniture without guilt was a nice touch! Laundry facilities were great to have as well! Very nice home and the owner is fabulous as he was very receptive to all questions and desires to make your stay top notch! Thanks again! We would recommend to anyone!
