About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom Surf Cabin

This small but cozy surf house is within walking distance to the beach. A nice oversized porch with BBQ and hammock will be a great place to enjoy a beer and watch the world go by. We have added a 1100L water tank in the spring of 2016. This will ensure the water shut offs do not affect Casa Palmera.

A little farther away from all the action of North Guiones, gives you lots of privacy, but only a short 5 minute walk to the mini super and restaurants. Enjoy the freshest seafood at Pacific Azul, Mediterranean fare right next door at La Casa, or catch live musicians and enjoy local and western cuisine at Kaya Sol. We do lack a swimming pool, however Solo Bueno has the best pool in all of Nosara and it is only a short 2 minute walk.

The master bedroom has a queen sized bed and the second bedroom has two twins, great for the kids or push them together and accommodate two couples. A full kitchen allows you to save money and cook all your own meals.

Life seems to move at a slower pace in the tropics, but Nosara has so much to offer. If you enjoy adventure you can learn to surf, try one of the worlds longest zip-lines, go horseback riding, enjoy deep-sea fishing, stand up paddle boarding, ATV tours, nature tours, seasonal turtle watching, waterfalls, and more.

This little house is located within a 10 minute walk of Playa Guiones, one of the most consistent surf breaks in the world. Locals swear that you can surf 340 days of the year. A great place to learn how to surf, you will walk past 3 surf shops on your way to the beach, all of them offering lessons and board rentals.

About Josh McNulty

We both arrived in Calgary, Alberta 10 years ago looking to start our careers. We ended up working in emergency services and it where we eventually met. We were married in 2012 and are looking forward to travelling the world together.

Josh McNulty purchased this house in 2014

Why Josh McNulty chose Costa Rica

When we met in 2009, we always dreamed of retiring in a tropical paradise. We travelled to Nosara at Christmas and immediately fell in love. We had the opportunity to purchase a home, and decided to speed up our 10 year plan. We are so happy to own a piece of paradise in such an amazing place. We truly hope you love Casa Palmera as much as we do.

My husband and I spent 3 and a half months in Casa Palmera in 2015. We found the Casa to meet all of our needs and is in a great location to the beach. We walked everywhere. A Minisuper is just down the road, and we took Tuktuk's into Nosara for groceries. My favorite was the many vendors who come right by your door. There are wonderful resturants, like the Gilded Iguana, in walking distance. I practice yoga, and there are 3 studios within walking distance of the Casa. So we only rented a car when we wanted to explore other parts of Costa Rica, and quads for exploring the further beaches, like Garza, Samara, and Carrillo. The house managers, Mark and Janet were the very best, they were welcoming, always available to answer our questions, or help us in any way. In the dry season the dirt roads are VERY dusty. The dust coming off the main road as well as the road next to the Casa was a constant presence. Some ares of road have molasses applied to keep dust under control, this is badly needed in the area surrounding this Casa.

Family of 3

We loved this house--it had everything and then some. Washer and dryer, fully stocked kitchen, a/c and a house phone. The wifi was out but the managers were working diligently to restore it. The house was a closer walk to the beach than we thought it would be (10 minutes) and the environment lovely and so easy to appreciate laying in the hammock on the covered front patio. Lots of wildlife--all types of lizards, howler monkeys, bats (outside!) and fireflies, with a 5-minute walk to the local market.

Great location, great price

  • 3 of 5

This cozy house had nearly everything we needed. Walking distance (10min) to beautiful beaches and several good restaurants. We were impressed with the hosts and their responsiveness to our calls and emails for recommendations. We are not surfers but the location is perfect for those that do surf. The road noise was a negative for us as well as the lack of access to a pool, which would have been nice for my wife and 2 kids. You definitely need a car for this area or rent an ATV for your stay. All of the roads are dirt with lots of potholes. Pura Vida!

Owner's Response: We have planted some Palms around the house this rainy season and we are hoping that this will help with the road noise. We have asked guests who have stayed with us and they have never had a problem with the road noise. We are very sorry that this was a problem and hopefully we have taking care of the issue.

Great Price, Great Location, Great Place to Relax...

  • 5 of 5

A friend and I stayed at Casa Palmera for 4 nights in April, 2014, and were very happy with this spot. The price is unbeatable for such a perfectly-located, well-stocked and clean property, and the fact that it can comfortably sleep 4 people. The security on the casa is above average and I was very impressed with it - among the best I've seen in my travels, and it was very convenient to have a full kitchen. It was also great to have the hammock outside to lounge in and watch the iguanas wander by while reading a book, or listen to the howler monkeys in the trees nearby.

The beach and restaurants are close (10 min. walk) - we rented bicycles and had a car but it would also be easy to walk everywhere. Nosara is a great place to relax and/or find adventure - there are lots of surf shops nearby and all kinds of vehicles for rent.

The property managers were wonderful and very helpful and responsive, getting back to me almost immediately each time I emailed. I would definitely recommend Casa Palmera and plan to return either by myself or with a couple friends.

Great location, and comfortable accomodation.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at this property for a week this winter. We loved making our own dinners and found that we had everything we needed during our stay. The washer and dryer were a huge bonus and the place was very clean. Easy walk to the surf break, you'll find it hard to beat this place...bang for your buck, probably the best rental going right now in Guiones!
