Built as a hunting cabin in 1946 by Pete Van Gelder, one of the original Spokane Mountaineers, it has been expanded and modernized over the years. But the original ambiance is well maintained with 60 year old trophies over the fireplace and other artifacts dating to the CCC days. There is a great room with massive rock fireplace and gas stove. The traditional lodge furniture is made of hickory and wicker by my friend in Kentucky. It is the same furniture you will find in Glacier or Yellowstone National Parks. There is a large dining table, hand built by Pete, easily enough for ten people in front of the picture window which looks out on the Selkirk Mountain crest.
There are two bedrooms and a loft. The loft is the perfect kid magnet accessed by a ladder. The kitchen is small but complete. The newly remodeled bathroom has a shower as well as stacking washer and drier.
There are the usual electronic amenities. Cell coverage is good for AT&T and Verizon. I do not have WiFi but it is readily available at Hill's resort 2 miles away or at the library which is 3 miles away.
There is 50 feet of sandy beach and a 40 foot dock for your boat and other water toys. Outside there is a patio with table and grill.
A unique feature is the perennial brook that flows right along side the cabin where I have begun a Japanese garden. The brook flows right beside both bedrooms and can provide just the right soothing sounds to ease you into dreamland.
There is adequate parking for at least two cars and also boat trailer parking as well.
My cabin is ideal for a couple with kids or two couples. Maximum capacity for a week is 6. Compare with Hill's where a similar (although not nearly as nice).

Year Purchased: 1987
About the owner: We live in Coeur d'Alene and have spent endless weeks at Priest Lake in all seasons. Increasingly we find we are doing more sailing during the summer. This summer we are sailing back from Alaska. I am the second owner. I was fortunate to be able to buy the place in the spring of 1987 when Pete passed away. I have done my best to maintain the cabin as true to the original as possible yet providing modern updates. Although I really liked the smell of the oakum chinking it was darned cold in the winter. We have been fortunate to share the cabin with families who come year after year.
