About Margaret Booker
Like my mother before me, I spent summers in Onekama as a kid. My mother's family has owned summer vacation property in the Onekama area for four generations, starting with a kit home and land purchased by my grandfather's aunts, who taught school in Chicago in the early 1900s.
Margaret Booker purchased this House in 1963
Why Margaret Booker chose Onekama
I manage the summer rental of The Lion's Share Lake House for my mother Deb and her sister Andrea, the home owners, whose parents Richard and Barbara Bolling designed and built the home in 1963.
What makes this House unique
With changes in lifestyles, we are no longer spending all summer in Michigan and we are pleased to open the house for rental to friends, old and new, who know the respite and relaxation of a one week or one month Lake Michigan vacation. We continue to enjoy the Lake House, walks on the beach, and shopping in Traverse City when we open/close the Lake House each year.

House was a HOME! Well cared for. Nice kitchen.
Only problem forme was difficult access. Stairs and driveway tough.
We had a great time!
Great house, great location!
This was our second stay at the Lion's Share, and it was just as delightful as the first visit.
A very comfortable and well equipped place to bask in the beauty of the area.
We found the Lion's Share house to be clean, well maintained and well equipped with what we needed for a wonderful, relaxing vacation. We appreciated the ample supply of towels and the abundance of towel racks in the bathroom. The large, well shaded deck was a delightful place to linger. The double bed was a bit saggy and although the twin beds were in good condition and very comfortable, for our group of three adult couples (three of whom are over six feet tall) it would have been ideal to have three queen beds. That said we are trying to find a way to come back to The Lion's Share next summer.
A heads-up for prospective renters: the house is listed as sleeping six but the price quoted was for five and we were charged an extra $50/night for the sixth person.
Just what we needed!
We were looking for place on Lake Michigan with easy access to the beach, a quiet place where we could read books by the lake, swim, play games and share meals, stories and laughs. We definitely found it here. Even though the lake was high this year, the beach was fine, the water warm, and we practically had it to ourselves! The cottage isn't right on the beach, but it was three minutes from the door to toes in the sand. The cottage was simple, well equipped, and suited us perfectly. We ate at the Glenwood in Onekama one night -- what a treat! Frankfort and Sleeping Bear Dunes are an easy (and beautiful) drive. But the best part of this place is the owner, Margaret Booker. Trustworthy and wonderful to deal with. One suggestion: we brought up a card table and chairs so that we would have an extra table for games/puzzles. Plenty of room for it. We're definitely considering a return trip!
Had a great time. Well equipped cottage. Very eclectic and comfortable. Short walk to the beach and beautiful sunsets!
