Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

This extremely unique 3 bedroom 2 bath home directly on the river has everything you could ask for when visiting the Black Mountains of North Carolina. Even the approach to the home will leave you awestruck. The long driveway meanders through the forest running parallel to the Cane River passing by an old cattle barn and soon submerges you in a thick canopy of old growth Rhododendron. The canopy of Rhododendron you pass under with its imposing appearance leaves you with the feeling that you have entered a portal to natures own magical fairyland. You can't help but feel the elemental energy of natures finest. Spring time here is unbelievably beautiful with an abundance of wild flowers which cover the land like a carpet. You can expect to see Wild Iris, Lady Slippers, Showy Orchids, Trillium of all colors, Jack in the Pulpit, May Apples, Ferns of all varieties and much more. There is a large wrap around deck with views of the river, forest and old growth rhododendron with a gas grill and outdoor furniture for outside dinning.

The interior of this home is all completely remodeled and has personal touches that make it just as unique as the land it sits on. Equipped with four TV's; a large flat screen in the living room the other 3 being in the game room, master bedroom and one of the secondary bedrooms . The master bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub with unique locally hand crafted wall and floor tiles. The Jacuzzi tub is set in a wood Wormy Chestnut frame which complements the Wormy Chestnut trimming throughout the master bedroom. There are two almost floor to ceiling windows which open and allow you to hear and view the bouldered Cane River and surrounding forest. Open them and let the sounds of nature enter the bedroom. It also has its own meditation area in a setting that compels you to relax, renew your spirit and reflect on how wonderful your life is.

The living room has large windows facing the river and a brick hearth wood burning fireplace. (Firewood is provided.) An adequate supply of firewood is provided at no cost. The home is heated with a forced air heating system.

The lower level is equipped with its own TV, games and a ping pong table for the children to enjoy when they aren't outdoors exploring the river. Don't forget to bring your fishing equipment for this river has an abundance of trout. Take your days catch to the large outside fire pit which is surrounded by log chairs and tables. A perfect setting for outside dining would be a hot dog cookout followed by a roasted marshmallows for desert.

This home can easily accommodate 6 Guests. It has three bedrooms in the upper two floors and a full size sleeper sofa in the lower level game room. Two of these bedrooms have queen size beds and the other has a full size bed. All bed and bath linens are provided. All you need to bring with you are your clothes and groceries; everything else is there.

The property is set in a unique spot! At the very end of a private road so this place does “take you

The kitchen is clean and true to the picture. It could be better stocked but it is adequate enough. The upstairs master bed is comfortable, but the carpet is stained and needs replacement. The downstairs basement (game room shown in pics) is musty and moldy smelling, not really a usable space during our stay. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather so our time was spent outside on the deck listening to the stream below or out by the fire pit at night. The location is remote, but a grocery store is only about 6 miles away. The view from the deck is nice, cows graze in the pasture across the street and the steam is lovely. Overall, we give the house three stars, but has 5 star potential with some sprucing up. The deck is in desperate need of stain and minor repair. The fire pit is on its last leg and some of the outside chairs need to be cleaned or replaced. The sheets and towels were brand new and That made a huge difference for us since the rest of the house felt a little dingy.

Perfect secluded location ! Cabin needs work.

  • 3 of 5

The location is spectacular. You can enjoy a mountain hike on a rhododendron shrouded trail staring at your back door. The river running by the cabin( the Cane) is great for trout fishing and is often stocked by the DNR with large rainbows!

The cabin needs work. The sliding screen door is falling off the track, the oven door can't open all the way as it is too close to the cabinets and the cookware is Walmart's second best. While there were three wonderful cook books, we couldn't even find a mixing bowl, a half-way decent frying pan ( we forgot to bring one of our own), or a bread knife. Glassware is a step below basic.

The price is premium, but the cabin definitely is not. Electronics (wifi, cable tv and phone) work well. There is plenty of hot water. The plumbing did not fail. It was clean.

In summary, if you're looking for a fabulous location, a secluded piece of heaven and just need a place to sleep, stay here.

The location is five star, the cabin squeaks by with a two, hence a three star overall.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and for being a return guest for many years. The cabin is under new ownership and will be receiving many updates over the next few months. We will be sure to let the owners know about the things that can be easily fixed as they have asked for feedback. This cabin is the perfect mountain getaway and will continue to be updated into 2018. Our company plans to post as the cabin is refreshed. Best Regards. Pristine Vacation Rentals.

Loved being riverfront, having privacy, and not having to worry about kids/dog being near road.

Clean & cute cabin with any amenities that we could want or need. Perfect layout of rooms & beds for my family's needs. We enjoyed tubing and floating in the river & walking on trails around cabin. Also, had an awesome experience at a location for guided horseback riding within a 30 minute drive. Secluded but close enough to grocery stores convenience. Stairs down to river were a little challenging & could use improvement. Also, porch railing was not sturdy & could use repair. My family really enjoyed our stay and plans on booking again in the future.

The Spirit of the River was the perfect get away.

  • 5 of 5

We felt totally seluded and private. The house is located at the end of a private road that winds along the river. We went walking along the lane several times a day. The river was great for tubing or just sitting and watching and relaxing. Fishing was fun but not very productive - the streams are not stocked in late summer. The house was very, very comfortable and everything that we needed except for food was provided. We really enjoyed the firepit and built fires and roasted marshmellows every night. The ping pong table was a great hit and we had several heated tournaments during our stay. The location was close enough to Burnsville that we could run in for groceries or shopping on main street - even a cup of coffee at Starbucks! Burnsville was a delightful town and we were lucky enough to be there for the Mount Mitchell craft fair. There is also horseback riding nearby at the Wolf Laurel Stables. We had a wonderful, restful week!!

We spent a long weekend at the cabin and it suited us perfectly. Teenage boys had space to explore, dogs had great plce to run/wade in the creek and my husband and I could relax and enjoy. We had everything we needed.
